Morning everyone. I think our president should have a jubilee birthday celebration like Queen Elizabeth does where the party continues all week. Then he can go off on vacation and leave the clean up to the rest of us.

  5. August 5, 2014 at 7:40 am

    Good morning Roberta,
    Congratulations!
    Hi ya doing Ms. Chips.
Still sorta, kinda in a lurk-ish mode here.

So much to do and hardly any time to do it before leaving for vacation.
I hate to pack but love to travel. Unpacking is even worse.
By the time I get around to it, it is time to go again.
    (Not bragging or complaining…..just saying)
    Have a great Tuesday everyone.
What a wonderful birthday celebration for the best President in my lifetime!
He shows us love and we love him back.

Very jealous that you get to spend some quality time relaxing and being pampered in the gorgeous Sedona area.

I’ve always loved Arizona and New Mexico — they have some of the most spectacular 360 degree sunsets on a regular basis.

Enjoy every minute, and remember that it’s true that you can learn something from every person you meet.

For a morning chuckle, watch Rand Paul swallow his hamburger and run when a well-spoken Dreamer confronts Steve (condescending creep) King in Iowa. King can’t handle the confrontation and tries backtracking before he gets confrontational. I hope Latinos across America see and remember this performance. Republicans are good at playing to their bigoted base, but they have no idea how to deal with real people.

Yet the same article seems to be praising Hillary for all of this this: They state here:

// Unfortunately for the GOP, which insists on attacking Clinton from the right, none of their nonsense (such as Benghazi) is having much effect, and that leaves her lots of running room to run as a candidate more hawkish and more pro –Wall Street than Obama. The Republicans are each finding it difficult to separate themselves from the pack while simultaneously figuring out a way to build the case against Hillary Clinton, as The Hill’s Campaign Blog notes in “The GOP’s 2016 Hillary paradox.” //

Really? So is Clinton someone to be proud of because she’s more pro-Wall street and Hawkish than Obama? The same “progressive” outlet that literally wanted to hang PBO for daring to govern left-of-center, is giddy with praise and accolades for Hillary for running as a centrist Republican and bashing the President?

Hillary is trying the same triangulation bullshit as her husband did in the 1990s. That gets her “love” from the media and perhaps a few votes from racist GOPers and conservative Dems. But it will not win the her the Dem nomination, let alone the Presidency in 2016. Sorry, but if she’s getting her advice from these media outlets, which all seem to be advising her to continue bashing Obama as a her campaign platform, she will see a repeat of 2008…

        August 5, 2014 at 8:26 am

If true it’s clear Clinton haven’t learn a dam thing from 2008.

        • August 5, 2014 at 9:43 am

Hillary Clinton became Secretary of State because she thought that would benefit HER. I think her relations with the President were good only on a superficial level. President Obama has been much more friendly and sincere towards the Clintons than they have been towards him. I’ll never forget that interview on 60 minutes with both President Obama and Secretary Clinton. The body language just struck me. President Obama was at ease and praised Hillary with warmth and sincerity. There was a restraint in Hillary. The moment where the interviewer asks about their “friendship” was especially uncomfortable for me.

For the last six years the Clintons have NEVER stopped thinking that they were superior to him, I’m convinced that Bill has never stopped criticizing him behind the scenes, cultivating his alliances in the democratic caucus and in the democratic punditry of the Beltway. One of the reasons why President Obama has had some difficulty in building relationships with the democratic caucus has been that he’s always been seen by some as a man who had stolen the presidency from the Clintons.

And I’m saying this even knowing what Bill Clinton did in the 2012 campaign. Bill Clinton didn’t want Romney to win in 2012. To be fair Mr. Clinton was certainly worried about a republican presidency policy wise. But as a political animal, Clinton knew very well that a president Romney would have been very difficult to beat in 2016. Barack Obama and democrats had saved the economy, had done the hard work, and Romney would have been the one collecting the rewards of the improved economy.

I don’t think Bill and Hillary detest Barack Obama the man. They probably even like him. They just view him as inferior, and have absolutely no loyalty towards him. They will trash him if they think it will benefit them.

Sorry to be so harsh, and maybe it’s not very constructive to do so right now. And there’s no question in my mind that if Hillary wins the nomination, she’s the one that I want to win the presidency. However, we can’t be blind to the fact that she’s courting Wall Street and all the corporate powers right now, so she’s not the best candidate to pursue President Obama’s legacy. It’s the DLC all over again.

HF, part of this Clinton praise is an effort by the media to undermine the president before the midterms. Hillary Clinton will find it very difficult to run and win without the Obama coalition, which she is losing every day. At this point, I will vote for her over any Republican, but I will not work for her or donate.

          August 5, 2014 at 9:06 am

Yes, you are spot-on JG…this Clinton Praise is mostly about undermining PBO – whom the media/GOP consider to be their biggest threat. Little Nate’s conveniently timed release of his recycled “GOP poised to take Senate” meme wasn’t lost on me, along with the burying of the Benghazi findings.

I hope they took note of the overwhelming pouring of domestic and international support for his birthday yesterday. I’m sure they did…so we can plan on seeing a few nasty “polls” in the near future…but we know exactly what it means.

      • August 5, 2014 at 9:49 am

Hope, at least I think the person who made the tweet didn’t want to praise Hillary. I interpret the expression “courting WallStreet” as a negative…

Uhhh, it looks like HRC has caught the “MSM echo-chamber” disease, which means she has the self-awareness of a rock.

I’m not thinking of 2016, but this pissed me off royally:
“How do we try to enlist the rest of the world in this struggle between cooperation and order and conflict and disorder, which is really at the root of so much that’s going on today? And I don’t think we’ve done a very good job of that,” she said. She also noted the popularity of George W. Bush in Africa because of his efforts to battle AIDS there. He made me “proud to be an American again,” Clinton said.

WTH, lady, who the @(#* was Secretary of State during the first term of the Obama Adm?

Here’s what PBO himself had to say about the economy/economists in the audio interview (and transcript) with the Economist (their Editor-In-Chief and Foreign Editor seemed very sympathetic to PBO to my ear):

I hated PUMAs in 2008 and my dislike hasn’t lessened in 6 years.

Well, as we predicted, with the exception of MSNBC, none of the other networks reported the House findings on the Benghazi investigation. And MSNBC did not really report until an incidental mention by Alex Wagner at 4-5Pm, and then Al Sharpton’s show at 6-7PM ET.

Contrast this with the giddy, breathless, pants-wetting, 24/7 reporting and regurgitation of the GOP’s accusatory talking points that came out from every single one of the cable/broadcast news during the weeks after the incident and the months leading up to the investigation. When anyone tries to tell you that the networks are not anti-Obama, they are just interested in “ratings” or “horse-race”, just show them exhibit A, right here.

I must admit that I have my shudder moments when reading (books, blogs, whatever). I’m also one of those people who have a hard time using text language. I have to spell out words.

My husband gave me the link to that. He knew I would appreciate it.

We are a sorry lot. I mean, you are. ;)
*I* have been trying to adjust my default spelling by including ‘text’ language here and there but it doesn’t feel normal. Heck, even though I know many words now have an accepted dual spelling (ex: honour, practice, programme*….) I still find myself using the familiar one.

          * for words like this though, twitter’s 140 characters help me curb the excess. ;)

Bob posted this heartrending and beautifully written article last night when many had gone to bed. It really is too important to be missed and describes life in Gaza today more vividly than anything I’ve read. I hope it isn’t lost in the shuffle. These are real human beings living in terror, slowly being deprived of everything they have and still living on hope. Well worth taking the time to read.

I read it and marveled this morning, jackieg.

On another note, was there ANY coverage of PBO’s birthday on TV yesterday?
I can’t deal with American tv infotainment gossip anymore, so this is an actual question I’d be glad if someone can answer.

Yesterday on one of the birthday threads I expressed my displeasure that we have no voice or safe place on TV.
I am sorry now and apologize that I posted it because it was out of step with the mood and better left for today.

The abandonment of the sincere democratic left and all things PBO that are positive has been making me crazy for a long time.

      • 90 jackiegrumbacher
        August 5, 2014 at 9:52 am

Vicki, there is no free media in the United States except for social media. It’s been years since I turned to tv for news and so my expectations of fairness are nonexistent. It has always fallen to us–the ones who care–to deliver the message to others. The professional left is and always has been full of their own ego-inflated hot air. I know many of these ..” I voted for Obama…but” people that I just tune them out and turn them off. To me, they reveal their own ignorance and absence of critical thinking skills when they make this absurd statement. It’s possible to live in the US and be completely ignorant of anything that’s happening in the world. We are, at heart, a nation of bark people who live with our noses right up against the tree. Few even see the tree, let alone the forest. I still intend to keep on persevering. I talk to people who will listen. I seek out and try to recruit as volunteers those with eyes and ears to see what truly happening in this country. And I register new voters wherever and whenever I can. Our president keeps his eye on the long prize and he keeps on moving forward step by step no matter what is thrown against him. He’s our role model.

        • 91 Vicki
          August 5, 2014 at 9:58 am

Thank you for taking the time to answer, jackieg.
Persevering is the answer and getting over being so frustrated and mad is my goal and challenge.

    • 93 Vicki
      August 5, 2014 at 9:35 am

They haven’t noticed, Dudette, because the entire media has dedicated itself to depressing and distracting us with idiotic bs.
If the accomplishments of The Obama Administration were aired properly and the benefits to our society lauded, Deemocrats would be chomping at the bit to line up to keep the successes coming.

Yesterday’s news should have been the story by Paul Krugman (posted by pf and mentioned by me) that Dodd-Frank is working better than expected and that Medicare thanks to the ACA has extended viability and the life of Medicare will extend more every year. NOT run out!!!
Benghazi wasted taxpayer money and TV minutes.
And Oh, apparently gas is going to be lower this month than anytime since 2010.

I am crazed that we cannot get the news on television or in our newspapers.

    • August 5, 2014 at 9:43 am

And they say the right is uneducated ?
      Good grief!

    • August 5, 2014 at 9:46 am

This has always been my problem with the professional left…they are ideologues…..anything less then pristine adherence is heresy….many of them have not been involved in nitty gritty grass roots organizing….if they had they would be more pragamatic….they praise Warren for her rhetoric that is near and dear to their heart…but it is the pragmatic progessive that actually moves things forward….these folks have high praise now for Rev Barber…now that he has organized 1000s…but were they there in trenches at the beginning of Moral Monday Marches….

oftentimes the MSM calls these folks the base,….but they are not…if it had been left up to them to elect…the President…Romney would have been elected to the white house…
