Isn’t MO gov a dem? Where is he?

    • August 11, 2014 at 10:35 pm

He called for the FBI to investigate the murder. I think it may be time for him to ask for Ferguson to be federalized.

Investigation comes later. What is he doing NOW? Incompetent comes to mind.

      • August 11, 2014 at 10:38 pm

Agree. This situation definitely warrants the Gov deploying the MO National Guard.

        • August 11, 2014 at 11:23 pm

          Absolutely.

The Ferguson PD are employing EXACTLY THE SAME TACTICS used in Alabama and Mississippi in the 1960s, when LBJ acted to deploy the National Guard.

Lord help us, for it to come to that — for President Obama to have to do the same thing.

That is why I am so adamant that Jay Nixon must step up and act now. This is not a police force — it is a paramilitary mob paid by taxpayer dollars.

Amk, the governor of MO is Jay Nixon who is a Dem. This is really sad that he has not come out to speak with the people, IMHO. Rev. Al announced on his program today that he will be travelling to Ferguson tonight and meet with the parents , grandfather and others there in the morning.HZ

This saddens me to see violence erupt again tonight. I think the looting last night really does not bode well for the people. The only way forward is through peaceful protests. Looting and violence only raises the tension. Peace.

Different topic, but very insightful analysis of why Ukraine must reject Putin ….

“Let’s not forget another correlation: economies that rely on primary resource exports are most conducive to oligarchical neofeudalism. I dare make another argument: Ukraine, until not too long ago, had remained freer and more democratic than other post-Soviet states simply because the share of industrial production in its economy is much greater than the share of primary resources. If we joined the CU, oligarchical neofeudalism would not only have been preserved but would become entrenched.”

I just got home! You guys are moving to fast for me. I am still processing the news of Robin Williams’ death :-(

I just saw The Birdcage for the umpteenth time a couple of weekends ago. I truly loved Robin in everything he did from the Mork & Mindy days to now.

Robin, please be at peace now – we love you!!!

    • August 11, 2014 at 11:29 pm

Yes, he was an underrated comic genius.

So quick on his feet, and the best impersonator ever.

Seeing these tributes is just so emotionally draining. Wonderful gestures by all, but heartbreaking to contemplate.

This is why folks need to stop looting and calm down. Feeds right into the narrative of the white elites.

You think she didn’t feel this way about Black people last week or last month. No matter what Black folks do it will feed into the narrative of the white elites. Back when Black people were cowed by Whites, the White elite made up the narrative that Black people were naturally cowards (check out Jack London’s writings concerning Jack Johnson prior to him becoming Heavyweight champion). Now that Black people fight back they are depicted as “feral” as that ugly thing stated. Hell, these devils even call PBO a “Chicago thug”. Stop worrying about winning over the White elites, if they were ever on our side this shit would not keep on happening. That nonviolent stuff will get you killed in this country. Fear of some type of retribution is the only thing certain segments of our society understand. Fear of “blowback” for these outrageous actions is the only solution to the lack of respect cops show toward the people they are supposed to protect and serve.

When they calm down – their young men are killed. Being calm in the face of racism and police harrassment does nothing but ensure both continue.

I have no idea how I would respond if my skin was black – but at the moment this old white woman – half a world away is certainly NOT calm.

I will never forget the first time I saw Jonathan Winters on the Ed Sullivan Show as one of the featured comics. I had never seen a comic so naturally funny and sponteous. when I first saw Robin Williams I thought of Jonathan Winters immediately although each were unique in their style but would be hilarious if they worked together and I was right. I made sure if Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams were together not to miss two genious talents together.

Totally agree. Jonathan Winters also reminds me of my grandmother, back in those days. When he’d appear on the Ed Sullivan Show, she’d turn to us and say, “Why are we watching this? He’s silly.” We’d try to tell her in a kind way that he was supposed to be silly BECAUSE HE WAS A COMEDIAN, but she never got that. Ha.

I find the whole situation in Ferguson incredibly sad——the tragedy itself, of course, and the horrific circumstances of that. And all the senseless rioting and destruction in reaction—–over 2 dozen businesses looted and/or damaged, reporters and others beaten, gunshots, first day of school cancelled, all restaurants and businesses closed, people out of work for who knows how long, some may not re-open. The Brown family has called for calm, as have faith leaders and other respected community/civil rights leaders. And it continues again tonight. I don’t get what this is supposed to accomplish. It’s counter-productive, self-destructive. Hoping for calmer days ahead.

    • 64 jacquelineoboomer
      August 12, 2014 at 12:11 am

I don’t agree with the looting, but this is no doubt because of decades and decades of pent-up resentment for how some of our fellow citizens have been treated, although I’m white and could never fully understand. Seems as though some of the people in Ferguson have decided to take a stand, no matter the consequences. I fear for all of them. And, although I understand there are some out in force already, I’d like to see droves of white people out on the streets marching with the protesters, in support of justice for Michael Brown. Everybody in that town and the surrounding towns and in our entire country should be out yelling Enough Is Enough.

And this is America. Lord have mercy. I just cannot take this anymore. But I do have to seek a calmness because I know there are some people at this very moment who are seeking a peaceful solution to at least bring some peacefulness to this community. But we all hurt in times like these.

I am in so much pain because so many before these very people gave their blood for this to not occur like this again. Why can’t we use the word Respect in all of our actions and leave the Ugly and vile patterns of hate out of our cities, towns, states and nation. My family membesr and so many others within our family here gave their lives so we could move just a little closer to talking, respecting, being just and fair. And then the ugly hearts of the seed planters from those ugly generational patterns of the past have followed us again raising their ugly heads in another one of America’s states. When will it stop? Just when.

Be as peaceful as you can, TOD. May wisdom and patience be granted to Rev. Al and all who are working on a calm and sensible solution for tomorrow to share with the people. And may we all seek a way to pause and regroup. We have much to still do as we can see from this.

I pray for Michael Brown’s parents and grandparents. His grandmother just broke down this afternoon. Keep your sons and daughters close to your hearts to rise with the goodness. We still have so many people who still have that goodness within. We just need to pull together and seek out how we can help. Our nation has to be better than this. Good Night TOD family. Let us spread the love and respect as far as we can. HZ

God bless you for posting that tonight, HZ. Thank you for sharing the height (I can’t say depth because you’re so uplifting, as you seek calm for yourself and others) of your spirit with us. I keep thinking myself that Michael Brown’s grandmother, whom I believe he had been visiting, was one of the last people to see him on this Earth. Breaks my own grandmotherly heart.

As I sign off, there is too much to comment on, but I hope to leave you all this evening with my intuitive take on the departure of the Soul we have loved so dearly, Known as Robin Williams. Generally, as I understand it, in choosing to exit this world via taking ones own life, the Soul sets its development back considerably, entering a dark place for an undetermined length of ‘time’. I feel with the choice made by this generous and advanced Soul, however, the Soul we know as ‘Robin Williams’, that is not the case. The outpouring of love, compassion and embracing of his choice, by millions around the globe, this Wave of Love will Lift, Hold and support that transition, for while incarnate, he has brought those same attributes to all of us – with no restraint. If anything, Robin Williams so loved the world, so loved humanity, it may be that he felt he could not do enough, could no longer carry the burden of pain and fear which limits us. He has passed into the arms of the Angels, and he is already conscious, seeing that he gave more than most, and his contribution is eternal. He served all of humanity, and he was tired. Thank you, Bless you, Mr. Robin Williams, you have done more good than you know. Rest now, there is much work still to be done. We will hold Light around your Family, for their strength and their healing. Goodnight.

You know what? Sadly I come to this blog to chat politics good or bad.
    What’s relevant and not…
Lately I have been accused of posting bad news. I am not polyannish, I post as I see things clearly.
Furthermore, most of the posts on this site has been about Israel bombing the shot off of Gaza, a little black boy being shot in the head by a cop, robin Williams committing suicide, yazids being starved to death by their own people, etc.
And I am the one who posts negative shit? Really?
Come on? Their are several people, most who post negative stuff here.
If you want to use me as a scapegoat feel free. I ain’t buying it.
The fact is, the planet is in disarray, and the polls sick bc people in this country don’t understand how the government works and blame Presidents, this one to be exact. And republicans are smart enough to know this x which is why the gum up the works.
It’s called politics, and it works!!
I’ll be taking a break from here for a long while like before, when my dog died.
And yes I post negative stuff but I have balance I also post positive stuff. That’s life!
    Take care of yourselves. :)

It takes two to tango. Life is what one makes of it. Some want things sweet…..and some want sour and sweet…..but some want bitter……not sweet. It is indeed a balance act.

To be or Not to be that is the question or answer depending on one’s point of view. Knowing the audience is part of that equilibrium. I personally will miss reading from you…..The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Be well and I hope some day, you will come back……..you hear? <3 and Peace ;)

Hope all the reporters either told to leave and/or breathing in tear gas in Ferguson write some big stories about what happened to “them,” so we can get some clarity on what happened to Michael Brown, minute-by-minute … and others in the community, in the days after.

This from a Los Angeles Times national reporter:

  40. August 12, 2014 at 7:04 am

Good morning, friends. Still feel a bit numb this morning. Between Ferguson and Robin Williams, wouldn’t expect to feel any other way.

Switched from my local early news to Bill Press. He is on vacation. Filling in today is Clinton Yates, young, AA online reporter for the Washington Post. In the 6 o’clock hour, he went on a rant about the Mike Brown, Ferguson police…….whole racism issue. He was definitely restraining himself but still made excellent points. Felt very sorry for him because he was obviously speaking from his gut, his heart.
