This!!! I prefer to keep up via this blog than to hear all of the punditry. I attempted to watch CNN early this morning and they had one guy complaining about PBO’s vacation and another who was ok with the vacation but criticizing the timing of PBO’s response to the Ferguson matter.

A good night for some, but not for all. America. Home of the Brave. Land of the Free.

  9. August 17, 2014 at 12:11 am

Watching the live streams. The comments are heartbreaking. I know it’s just a few people but still. The racism. It hurts the soul.

Remember: We don’t have to give them a voice by “listening.” It’s hard not to read them, but I personally picked a few to get the gist, and knew it wasn’t for me. As one of those commenting said on a live feed I was following (something like): Look at all these pathetic racists with nothing better to do than write their comments here on a Saturday night.

Good Night, night shift TODers! Hope those inciters arriving in #Ferguson don’t aggravate anyone overnight.

Also, thanks again FirefoxTX for you straightforward explanations.

Good night, and you’re welcome. It is very confusing if you don’t live it every day.

Very true. Or, if you don’t live it at all – at least not in the obviously, blatant, divisive way it seems here.

I hope this happens..like I said before, powerful vision to see a town asleep and peaceful while Rambos in riot gear twiddle their thumbs all night…in a thunderstorm. Tomorrow is a good day to get back to work..

        August 17, 2014 at 12:25 am

Nice picture to paint, for sure! Hope it goes well.

I was thinking earlier that this may have been the most number of hours on a Saturday night that there’s been a concentration of Black residents on the streets, without being stopped or challenged just for walking or driving around. Never been there – just going by what Michael Brown’s grandfather said, several days ago, about his own experience.

      • August 17, 2014 at 12:34 am

I am in solidarity with this view, DF. If the good people keep themselves safe from the bloodthirsty who are no doubt praying for a chance to cause harm and create more chaos, that bunch of overdressed wankers might, very remotely, but might begin to see how disgusting they really are.

Happy to see Amnesty Int’l reps and legal observers in Ferguson, but what a sad day for America that we need them there. I am exhausted but cannot sleep knowing what may go down.

The link Alycee gave us on YouTube to “CREDO’s Ferguson Justice LIVE” has just shut down, to give them time to leave the area before the curfew. So glad to watch that, and I wish everyone there Godspeed as they approach midnight. Be safe, Ferguson.

aw how sweet, annie lowery (married to ezra klein) is having fun and games with the murder of mike brown and the horrific aftermath:

her and her hubby are the definition of white privilege. and annie’s claim to fame was writing an article saying the president who has advanced women’s rights more than anyone in decades, was somehow not supportive enough of women in his cabinet. what a freakin joke annie lowery and ezra klein are.

Passed my test with my wonderful brother. What a gentle soul, but brilliant and hard working one. I am so grateful.

{{{{{{{{{{{{ My candles are on as well.}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} His last words to me before we said, “We have so much love to share between us, so rest up and be ready for the grace to be alive tomorrow to share some of that love with others in whatever way that we can. I love you.”

Remember to give thanks for Chips and the great and brilliant contributors here. We are so blessed to have this beautiful space. A thank you to those who reminds us of the importance of local voting in judicial candidates in our elections.

Good night to my Chips, and thanks so much LL for all that you do. May restfulness graciously give hope to all of our brothers and sisters in Ferguson so that they will be able to rise tomorrow with new strength, hope and faith to keep fighting and to know that we are fighting for and with them.

Almighty blessings rest upon our great POTUS and his hardworking administration. {{{{{{{{{{{{Love you TOD family.}}}}}}}}}}}}}}HZ

It was wonderful to see Jack Dempsey @Jack, cofounder of Twitter, walking and tweeting in Ferguson today. Twitter has given ordinary people around the world a voice. He is from Missouri.

  21. August 17, 2014 at 1:27 am

Maybe someone can help me with this. The state of Missouri has responsibility for investigating and prosecuting a murder investigation. Who is actually doing the investigating and the prosecuting, special state appointed personnel, or the City of St. Louis? I hope that the Ferguson police are not investigating themselves.

    • 38 FoxfireTX
      August 17, 2014 at 1:33 am

Almost that bad. The city of Ferguson is within the County of St. Louis (not the city). It is the county police and prosecutor doing the investigation and prosecution. Because Ferguson is so small, they work together all the time. Hard to see any objectivity here.

      • August 17, 2014 at 1:42 am

Can’t thank you enough, FoxfireTX, for all your informative, expert input.

        #TrustBarack

      • August 17, 2014 at 3:05 am

Correct me if I am wrong, but is it not true that the State government of Missouri (Governor and State legislature) can decide, immediately, to take over the investigation from the city of Ferguson and the county St. Louis. Other than political ramifications, legally there is nothing preventing the government of the State of Missouri from taking over the investigation from local authorities. Local governments serve at the pleasure of the State governments.

    Police shooting tear gas.

watching cnn intl live from ferguson. the reporters and anchors basically implying it’s the police who are to be blamed for the current stand-off and they are violating Ron Johnson’s promise that police won’t use strong arm tactics by firing tear gas into the crowd.

I’m just getting back here, but saw last night it was smoke canisters – not tear gas. Small comfort, but glad about that.

Angry and sad beyond words. And just so everyone understands how bad this whole scene is, in most instances cities prosecute misdemeanors and the county prosecutes all felonies within the county borders. That means this prosecutor most likely worked WITH Darren Wilson on whatever case for which he recently received that “commendation”. And now we are supposed to think he is going to be objective and vigorously prosecute him? Some justice.

  37. 62 amk for obama
    August 17, 2014 at 2:09 am

This is the blatant hypocrisy that riles up the people more. As far as I can see via cnn livefeed those defying the curfew are not being violent.

  38. August 17, 2014 at 2:10 am

We are in control as long as we not only VOTE but remain constantly vigilant, communicative, and organized to achieve our goals. No plutocrat or any other minority-serving tyrant can prevail if humanity realizes we are CONNECTED & COMMITTED to Justice.

What these police are about is undermining Captain Johnson at every turn. We see you.

  42. August 17, 2014 at 3:22 am

Police are doing a presser now?

    • August 17, 2014 at 4:06 am

I just saw the end of the presser conducted by Captain Johnson. He explained there was a shooting of a young man, not connected with the protest. Some of the protesters transported him to the hospital where he is reported in critical condition . Capt. Johnson said also they went to the location of Red’s BBQ where there was a report of armed men, and apparently someone shot at a police car. Didn’t say who these armed men were or what happened after that.

      • August 17, 2014 at 4:08 am

The strain on this man has become quite evident. What a terrible position he is in and now people are starting to turn on him.
I hope the man survives the shooting. Tragedy upon tragedy.

  43. August 17, 2014 at 3:33 am

Wow, it has been quite a day on TOD. Took me four hours, between doing work stuff to catch up with last few posts. Very sad, very sad. Can only hope that the rising sun will bring a new day and some renewal for Ferguson. A grieving mother needs to mourn the loss of her son. Her killer needs to be brought to justice.

    More Twilight Zone:

    • 78 Sandy1110
      August 17, 2014 at 5:02 am

      The world is watching.

History repeats. The Kennedy administration was engaged in the Cold War and trying to advance international policy when the Civil Rights movement went into high gear.

It’s sad and dangerous that a generation seems to have been lulled into thinking that that struggle was a thing of the past and have not valued the vote for which so many fought and some died.
