  Yesterday, when, weakened by emotion, you had to be helped from the podium. I guess you never spotted my comment/advice on that occasion. Oh well.

yes yes, It was a very emotional day yesterday with me winning that gold medal in spectacular fashion. I hope to be an inspiration to every little kid out there that has a dream to reach greatness. A great man once said “if you can look up, you can get up.” I’m from a place called hope, and I was born in a house on a mountain top and my guide was a thousand points of light. And I say to all, morning America!

/patting on shoulder/ You clearly did enormous work preparing your winning speech, and you’ve shared it with verve! Well done! But Don, if you fall off the podium in the delivery of your speech it tends to detract from your oratory. Just saying, for the next time you make it up there.

I say, ‘Morning, Don’ too! ;)

    EXCELLENT, IMPORTANT READ.

    http://www.newrepublic.com/article/119019/civil-rights-movement-going-reverse-alabama

When Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law 49 years ago this month, he proclaimed it “a triumph for freedom as huge as any victory that has ever been won on any battlefield.” It’s arguable that Johnson was actually understating the law’s significance. The Voting Rights Act enfranchised millions of Americans almost immediately. The voting registration rate for blacks in Mississippi was 6.7 percent in 1964; by 1968, it was 59.4 percent. Over time, the increase in black voters enabled the elections of thousands of black politicians. Without the Voting Rights Act (VRA), the Congressional Black Caucus would be a fraction of its current size. Without the Voting Rights Act, Barack Obama wouldn’t be in the White House.

Wrap your head around that for a little while, then read the entire excellent article.

Seven Days since an unarmed teen was gunned down in cold blood and left on the streets to bleed to death.

And so far we still DO NOT have:

    -a police incident report
    -an autopsy report
    – any indication of # of bullet wounds sustained
    – any indication of killer cop’s whereabouts
    – any additional info about the Ferguson PD or killer cop’s record over the last 6 yrs

    But we do have:
    – video/pics unrelated to the shooting, but played on 24hr loop on ALL cable news networks to portray dead teen as a thug
    – endless punditry about President Obama not doing enough for Blacks
    – endless media reporting of “riots” and “looting” and “unrest” without contextualizing

ALL these distractions that are not related to the shooting incident or the investigation – are being initiated, maintained and amplified by the media. Any questions?

Governor Nixon is as useless as tits on a bull; he seems mealy-mouth and privileged. It seems as though he as to force himself to feel empathy for black people. He comes off as awkward because he does not look comfortable among black people.

Makes it 100% likely that his original plan with Capt Johnson was suggested by PBO – and he couldn’t even implement that properly – ALL he had to do was to gag the FPD and let Capt Johnson control the conversation. Fool.

      • August 17, 2014 at 10:52 am

I don’t know why he thought he could hold a press conference and stick to his scripted subject. He either did not anticipate the questions (which I doubt) or just thought he could blow them off. People are tired of that condescending attitude by their elected officials.

    • August 17, 2014 at 10:48 am

Sounds like the people in Ferguson can’t even give him the benefit of the doubt because he has shown no interest in the area prior to this. Even now, it’s felt that the interest shown is because he has no choice.

In Chgo for the weekend—–meeting up with Fl. sis and bro in law. Chgo is hoppin’ and poppin’——busy, busy, busy everywhere. Looks like the whole world might be here—-beautiful people of all ethnic backgrounds—–lining the streets and outdoor cafes, everyone appeared to be so happy to be here on a perfect August evening, joyful laughter everywhere. A million and a half people were here for the air and water show, didn’t have to be on the waterfront to see and experience the Blue Angels flying (loudly) and in formation overhead. Cannot beat beautiful world class Chicago as a perfect summer destination.

     Or, we could have one post with 6 hug pics representing each year from 2008 – 2014;
 Or, every single post today could start with one, or two, pics of people loving PBO. ‘Twould balance out the crazy quite nicely, dontcha think?

      Excellent comment to this post:

      sandyhh • a day ago
The Ferguson police chief deliberately provoked a riot yesterday. He deliberately caused more tension and made things worse out of spite.

Chief Jackson didn’t want to release the name of his officer that was
involved in the shooting. So when he was forced to do so by other
authorities in the state, he made a deliberate decision to release
information that was not pertinent to the investigation of the shooting.

His only motive was to smear the reputation of the victim to divert
attention from the actions of his own officer knowing it would set off
more violence….and taint the jury pool of the eventual trial. Nobody takes over his streets, especially an uppity black state trooper?

The Ferguson Police Chief only succeeded in making the store in the video a target and probably never having it open again. Isn’t that special?

It is clear that Chief Jackson is not a professional law enforcement
officer. He’s a brute who enjoys manipulating others. His primary goal
as head of the Ferguson police department is to keep the black residents
“in their place” not to protect and service the entire community. His
police force follows his lead. He must be fired.

Let’s see if the Ferguson City Council has the guts to end this stand off by doing the right thing. As they and everyone else in the St. Louis County political structure seem afraid to stand up against this small town tyrant, the young people there feel compelled to continue their protests on the streets.

When there is injustice and youthful hormones at work, there will be
confrontations. Chief Jackson knows it and obviously revels in how he
can make it worse. How much longer and how much worse this can get is
      yet to be seen.

If only these kids could be made to see that they have to register to
vote and do it in every municipal as well as national election, they
would have the power they don’t have now. Jesse Jackson has told them this before, but they no longer believe their vote counts (if they even are allowed to vote with all the new voter suppression laws) anymore than the Bill of Rights in the Constitution pertains to them.

Chief Jackson has poisoned the well and he slept one happy man last
night as the looting began again. This situation is a travesty for our
      Republic.

Post Racial America is turning out to look just like Selma in the 1960s.

“So when he was forced to do so by other authorities in the state, ”

At the press conference where he denied the name released by anon – a media person queried the name that turned out to be true. Another media person (no idea who) gave him cover at that time – but that was when he realized the name had to be confirmed, because it was out there – and he worked out his plan of inciting more violence at the same time.

The guy should be in jail for creating a riot

        superb comment. and on point.

    • August 17, 2014 at 11:00 am

Obviously the chief is taking his orders from another authority than the governor. If there is a state of emergency such that the governor can declare a curfew, why doesn’t that extend to making the FPD chief stand down?

Weird – it is so easy to acknowledge where something comes from – reminds me of the radio host who thought Jim Wright at Stonekettle would be thrilled because he took his words without permission and read them on air. Some folks just don’t get that all you have to do is reference your source, not duplicate the lot – Term paper 101.

    • August 17, 2014 at 3:37 pm

Hello. I’m Tani, I didn’t mean no disrespect or offense in anyway. Your comment was very compelling to me, as grandmother of 6 grandsons which 2 just graduated (smile) living in a red state (Texas) & I felt the core of your message needed to be repeated over & over again. My neighborhood is not too different from Ferguson suburb. I feel that could have been my son, my grandson. My grandsons see how they (police/media), are trying to portray Mike Brown’s family, friends & community. The disrespect & disdain they have for the President, AG, FBI, & Capt. Johnson it angrier & frustration them (myself included). How they’ll trying to whitewash the crime of the cop & prosecute Mike Brown, the community but most of all the family in the media. And it’s not right, its wrong & it must stop.

Once again, I do apologize for repeating your post w/o reference. But when I make comments I usually give reference points. And I must confess that I become a regular reader of your cite, ever since the ACA. My fellow cancer support group and I found your info was great help in dealing with our doctors, Techs, Pharmacists & social workers at MD Anderson Cancer Center we come from all walk of life and we their for each other (even when one of us don’t make it). And I have to be honest with TOD fighters we won’t stop copy from you we need you and it’s important that people know the truth. But will remember my reference points. Thank you, for listening to this old lady

I have accepted your apology, and am glad that you have found a friendly site in TOD where you can obtain information that is beneficial to you. Have a pleasant afternoon, and like you, I do hope that justice will be found soon for Mike Brown and his family. :) :)

    Hello TOD.

Unfortunately, FPD is inciting, agitating and willfully adamantly, encouraging a crisis. Cpt Johnson has the right Touch. A seasoned professional. He is doing the Best job anyone can expect. He is Not in charge of the FPD Military persona. They are undermining him 24/7. For if he succeeds, then 100% of the FOCUS will be on FPD. They are scared of that. That means their operation apparatus would be under a microscope. They are aware that FBI and DoJ would not release information prematurely. That is why it was unheard of for the FBI and DoJ, indirectly leaked that they had warned FPD against releasing the Store Video.

Nixon is either legally not able to stop it or he is unwilling to stop it. Nixon was AG for MO for 15 yrs or so before becoming a Governor. He knows the law in MO.

I do believe that Nixon didn’t know that FPD would release the FreeMarket Video just like the FBI and DoJ didn’t know. FPD was warned. They went defiantly and did what they did. Neither the Gov nor the Feds could have stopped FPD. My Observation is, The County and the Prosecutor probably could have stopped FPD had they wanted.
