    Wasn’t someone—okay, me—saying “Wait until August for the polls to turn”?

    GE TOD….

    Perhaps you’ve heard that today is National Dog Day. According to the website devoted to the occasion, it was founded in 2004 to honor dogs for “their endearing patience, unquestioning loyalty, for their work protecting our streets, homes and families.” The holiday sparked the hash tag #NationalDogDay, in which Twitter users posted photographs of their favorite dogs. And that quickly turned to veterans and U.S. service members sharing pictures of military working dogs and other canines they encountered while deployed….continued

      I’ve been contributing regular small amounts (all the way from Illinois) to ol’ Charlie. He simply MUST oust Rick “The Alien” Scott this year, just in case I move back to Florida – plus some of my grands are still there! Plus Rick Scott is a total nutjob.

    Last month, an American media executive arrived in Doha with a retired FBI agent known for his extensive contacts within the government of Qatar. The two men had come to meet with Ghanim Khalifa al-Kubaisi, the chief of Qatar’s intelligence service, and to discuss the whereabouts of an American journalist, Peter Theo Curtis, who had been missing in Syria for nearly two years. After the pair had waited for hours at the St. Regis Hotel in Doha, Kubaisi appeared with a small entourage. He had some good news. “We’re trying to find him,” Kubaisi told the visitors…..

    …Although Obama administration officials noted that Curtis was released following a “direct request” by his family for Qatari assistance, in fact the tiny Persian Gulf nation had been working on the case for months at the request of the Obama administration. Qatar, whose relationships with Islamist groups has at times been publicly questioned by the administration, has privately become the go-to U.S. partner for indirect communications with those groups. They include Hamas, at war with Israel in the Gaza Strip for the past month, and Jabhat al-Nusra, the group that held Curtis, which the United States has designated a foreign terrorist organization and a “wholly owned subsidiary” of al-Qaeda. Beyond the Middle East, Qatar facilitated peace talks between the United States and the Taliban in Afghanistan that ended without success last year. This spring, it helped arrange the exchange of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the only U.S. service member held by the Afghan militants, for five Taliban detainees held in the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The five currently reside in Qatar…..

    ….At 9:04 a.m. Saturday, Bradley received a text from Kubaisi: “Done,” with a thumbs-up emoji. Then, at 11:42 a.m., Bradley received another text from the intelligence chief: “now Peter in safe hands.” Curtis was taken to the Golan Heights in Syria and later to Israel, where FBI agents from the bureau’s Washington Field Office were waiting for him. Nancy Curtis got the news almost immediately, with a call from one of the FBI agents who was involved in the case. She told Curtis her son was in “good shape but very emotional.” On Sunday, Curtis spoke to her son while he was at a hotel in Tel Aviv. She said in an interview that her son was “beyond elated.” “Mom, they’re treating me so well,” he told her. “I am in a fantastic hotel. I can have a beer. There are women here.” Curtis said she can’t wait for him to get home. “I am going to confiscate his passport,” she said.

      hello dotster…

      just keep in mind he named Capt Johnson early on…..but then he had NO power to control the Ferguson Police Force….it will take more than on black face on his cabinet.. to turn that culture around…and I would be most interested in knowing …what exactly are his duties and responsibilities…and how much staff and power he will indeed have…

      stilllll….if they want to change the culture in Ferguson…they could start by arresting Darren Wilson…they called for a grand jury…but they do not need a grand jury to arrest him…see the twitter storify by Reign of April

    I am watching Gov. O’Malley quietly organizing and sending his people to states to help them with this election. Does this sound familiar? Wasn’t this the game plan of a certain little known Illinois State and then U.S. Senator before 2007? This kind of on the ground organizing is the best way to win primaries…..Stay out of the national news, make no book tours, but work, work, work.

      “Ironically, Alexandr’s page also displays the underlying reasons for Russian anti-western conspiracy theories that seek to find enemies in the rest of the world. It is the only explanation for the poor state of affairs and grim reality that Russia offers for its citizens.”

      It’s all the same, no matter where you look on the planet – the wealthy few (oligarchs, plutocrats, whatever other fancy term for ‘Slave Master’ you want to select from the lexicon) – manipulate the poor in spirit, in education with fear and hate to only one end, the further enrichment and empowerment of the Slave Master.

      I swear I do believe the President’s hair has turned gray because of all the STUPID he has to deal with hourly. And really, I love it when the President “plays golf.” There’s no one in the world who can match PBO when it comes to “playing golf.” Even old wingnut and dumbass bibi had to FINALLY put his club down when he tried to go a couple of “rounds” with the master’s master, President Barack Obama.

    state deadlines to register are coming closer and closer;

    I don’t know how we can focus on these deadlines;

    because at the end of the day, GOTV actions are undermined if the people are not registered to vote or in some states, if there is even a minor discrepancy in their voter information ;

    Good evening, TOD. I’ve had a busy, busy day. Have managed to quickly lurk/scroll through most of the threads. The short period of time I was home last afternoon, I listened to PO’s speech today to the American Legion. As usual, he was magnificant. The audience–not so much. I keep hoping that it was the placement of the microphones in regards to the applause that could be heard. I’m probably clutching at straws. Just hurts me so much that he goes to those gatherings and speaks from the heart — and anyone would have to be an evil person and filled with hate — to not know that he was speaking from his heart and he gets treated like that. Tepid, shall we say. SIGH and SMH.

      The important thing is that PBO went to the American Legion convention, and he made important announcements. I don’t want to insult anyone, but my dad, my husband and my son are all vets. Not one of them belonged or belongs to the American Legion. Look at the age, color and gender of the audience. They are dying off, and the Legion is diminishing in size and influence. They know it…..to me they are like boys who still want to play war, and wear their little overseas caps and talk about their exploits. Even in OKC their posts are dying out and closing. I’m sure several score of them were convinced by the President, even if the applause was not raucous. He just keeps going and going and going.

    On another smaller political note: today was the runoff primary day in Ok. Everyone I voted for won. Of course, it was the Demo primary, but still my candidates won, and they are the stronger against the Repubs. My good friend, who is a long time political observer and writer in the state, thinks these particular people have a good chance of winning, particularly the candidate for State Supt of Public Ed and the Cong. Rep candidate. Also, a graduate of the college where I teach, won a run off for the State Senate, and will be the Senator, because there was no Repub opponent. He is a very liberal Democrat, running in the right district. His father is the former dean, so many people were surprised that he is a Demo. He is quite concerned with social justice issues.

    Now we have to get Democrats out to vote in the general. The Repub woman elected as State Supt of Educ in 2010 has been such a disaster, that I don’t think the people will elect another Republican. She had been a dentist, without one year of working in the Ed field. The Demo candidate has spent at least 28 years in public ed, with 22 as a superintendent. His Demo opponent was CEO of the charter school where my daughter taught for three years. Really awful.

    People in Oklahoma really pay attention in Sept and Oct. The State Fair is in Sept, so a lot of politicking and registration takes place then.

      I had never thought about it Alycee – but at the minute I’m not really concerned. i use the kindle for convenience & most of what I read, the family would probably give away if in printed book format.

      The article, I did find interesting – especially when talking about setting up a trust to own things such as kindle/itunes account. They made this comment – “tech companies could easily shut down the scheme by stipulating that an account holder must be “human” rather than a trust.” I’d like to see that go to the supreme court – given they have ruled that “corporations are people” .

    To fully understand what was happening in Ferguson you may want to follow the work of Michelle Alexander and Khalil G. Muhammad.

    As examples you’ll find these two fact-based presentations instructive, if not very troubling, about the state of affairs. Worth full views.

    Michelle Alexander lecture at the University of Chicago, 2013:
