Nerdy, this is an amazing combination of horrifying, ironic, amusing and, in the case of the goose, stunning tweets! I’m still reeling over that Daniel Holtzclaw creep. This is a hate crime and I hope the Justice department takes it on.

  6. September 1, 2014 at 5:10 pm

But, wait, isn’t Ofc. Holtzclaw one of the “good guys with a gun”?

    Great selection, NW.

      Thanks, LL.

When African-Americans say that a lot of cops are not kind and protective of their communities, this and Ferguson is a very clear example. This scumbag is sworn to protect and serve, yet he targeted Black women – no women of other races, just Black women – in their early 20s all the way to their early 40s. He raped them, he assaulted them, he went to their homes and threatened them and sexually assaulted them over and over again.

The women were so afraid to report the vile assaults because the cops in their community haven’t protected and served African-Americans and this is the result. Black women victimized over and over again because the system has always failed them.

Only 8 African-American women have come forward but I bet there are many more who are so scared that the cops will look out for their own and turn a blind eye.

      • September 1, 2014 at 5:24 pm

If there are 8, I bet there are 80.

Since I live in OKC, I have heard about this for over a week. The local stations do very good coverage, and are very clear that he is a policeman abusing AA women. He is in jail with very high bail. His picture is everywhere. The local NBC affiliate has been very complete. The newspaper which is EXTREMELY right wing has not been complete in coverage. This has really put our city police dep’t on the hot seat. The police chief is, I think, a standup guy, and will not let this guy escape what’s coming to him.

I’ll keep you posted on local coverage. He has been roundly condemned on local TV.

Hi Alycee…..I miss my dear Auntie too. She’s been gone seven years, she was my mom’s sister but she was more like a mom to be growing up and good friend when I became an adult. I enjoyed talking to her about every and anything.

We should be able to agree on at least one thing: Anyone proposing large-scale military action in Iraq and/or Syria ought to be required to explain exactly how and why it will achieve the goal of destroying the IS, and exactly why the unintended consequences that result from some kind of invasion won’t be worse than those that would grow from a more carefully planned course of action. “Just start bombing already!” doesn’t qualify as an explanation.

the photo of rmoney with his pals (and also some people) is such a grim reminder of what we’re fighting against. and i don’t mean the individuals or the funds, but the notion that wealth and status are the goal of life, to be attained by any means. i’m so proud and grateful that we as a nation elected and re-elected barack obama to the presidency.

This is on @nytimes home page now, but @FT reported this on Friday.

This is why I think this might be an historic and sobering week in world history at the #NATOsummit #ObamaInTheDiff.

    • September 1, 2014 at 6:19 pm

Yes, Arapaho, this is already an historic week and it’s looking like more history will quickly be in the making …

““The summit is very important because Russia thought it can change the borders of a sovereign European country by force, and this is happening not very far from NATO’s borders,” said one of Mr. Obama’s proud Estonian hosts, Prime Minister Taavi Roivas. “The security situation has changed, and we need to rethink our plans and reinforce our allies, so we can be 101 percent sure that all member states are equally and strongly protected.”

The sense of urgency was highlighted by events in Ukraine on Monday, as President Petro O. Poroshenko accused Russia of military aggression to alter the battlefield. “Direct, unconcealed aggression has been launched against Ukraine from a neighboring country,” he said, according to the presidential website. “It radically changes the situation in the conflict area.”

Ukraine’s defense minister, Valeriy Heletey, was more emphatic. “A great war has arrived at our doorstep, the likes of which Europe has not seen since World War II,” he said in a Facebook post. And Col. Andriy Lysenko, spokesman for the National Security and Defense Council, said Monday that Ukrainian forces had withdrawn from the airport near Luhansk in the face of a Russian Army tank battalion, and that seven Ukrainian soldiers had been killed in the last 24 hours. Russia regularly denies sending troops into eastern Ukraine.

For Mr. Obama, the trip is a chance to show Europeans that he is dedicated to NATO at a time when Russia is challenging the postwar European order, built on the principle of no border changes by force.”

wow. Good on the Euros policing their back yard. We’ll back them up, but two nuclear states standing toe to toe in Ukraine is not the smartest thing for the preservation of the species.

Just sobbed my way through the 2012 HBO doc. “Ethel”, a project by the youngest daughter, Rory, a filmmaker who was born after Bobby’s death. So many memories, joyful, promising times and of course all the tragedies. Centered around observations by all the siblings and mostly with “Mommy” Ethel. Highly recommend if you haven’t seen it and get a chance to watch.

Tim Wu is winning in somewhat scarce polling for NY State Primary election for Lt. Gov!!!

This is a BFD. Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s choice kathy Hochul is a proud Conservative running as a (D.)
Tim Wu has been exposing her record in her own words on Youtube. Hochul voted against the ACA, favors the Keystone pipeline, has voted against immigration rights and brags about her “A” rating from the NRA.

The ticket Progressives in NY prefer would be Cuomo’s opponent—Zephyr Teachout—— Plus Wu.
    That will not happen.
So, a win for Wu to be Gov.1%’s running mate and thorn in Andrew’s side henceforth will be quite nice.

Primary is Tuesday Septemeber 9 and Momentum is building….

I don’t live in New York, but I’d really like to see a lead pencil stuck in Andrew Cuomo’s arm. From what you’ve said, this should do it. Good.

      September 1, 2014 at 6:35 pm

Thank you so much for staying with this, Vicki. I’ll be voting Teachout/Wu in the primary tomorrow and, hopefully, again in November!

        September 1, 2014 at 7:06 pm

Thank you jacqueline and Lynn. This race even being so close tells us good things about the mood in NY and maybe lots of other places, too.
Real Democrats want as many people as possible to have wonderful lives. Tim Wu is a Real D.
If Lady Hochul pulls out the win, the message will not be so welcome, obviously.

        So true.

They were extremely slow to jump on the bandwagon when Todd Aiken said “if it’s a legitimate rape…”

But I think that phrase jumped out to any woman who saw or heard him say that.

P.S. – I wasn’t sure I had the first name correct, and saw that Aiken was on MSNBC less than two months ago to defend this statement. Didn’t click on the link.

The ink was not yet dry on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s promises, after Operation Protective Edge, of a “diplomatic vision” and “new opportunities in the Middle East,” before he and his cabinet were back to their old policy, which is subservient to the interests of the settlers and those who reject peace.
