Finally some tv pundits and journalists who are talking with some common sense concerning how the President is handling ISIS, and how foolish the media and others acted over the comment the President made about having no strategy. And the GOP and the MSM hate the fact that then Senator Barack Obama was right about the Iraq war.

Transcript: Obama’s Speech Against The Iraq War

      —————————-

What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income — to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics. Now let me be clear — I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He’s a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.

        Thanks for the schedule, HF2.

PBO is going to be operating on adrenalin all week.

Since he’s a night owl, doubt if he got any shut eye on the flight to Estonia — especially after the awful events today (i.e., ISIS).

Another reason it’s so wrong for the MSM/GOP to nip at his heels and pounce on any slight slip of the tongue. I wish they really would put country first.

  33. September 2, 2014 at 11:36 pm

    From an earlier thread:

    Wednesday
The President will meet with employees and family members of the United States Embassy to Estonia. He will then visit the Kadriorg Palace to participate in the official arrival ceremony, where he will be greeted by President Ilves of Estonia.

Later in the morning, the President will hold a bilateral meeting while at the Palace.

In the afternoon, he will visit the Bank of Estonia to participate in a joint press conference with President Ilves.
Following the press conference, the President will visit the Stenbok House to meet with Prime Minister Roivas.

Later, he will visit the Kadriorg Art Museum to meet with the three Baltic presidents – President Ilves, President Berzins of Latvia, and President Grybauskaite of Lithuania.

In the evening, the President will deliver remarks at the Nordea Concert Hall to students, young professionals, and civil society and political leaders.

Following his speech, the President will deliver remarks to U.S. and Estonian troops at the Tallinn Airport Hangar.
Later in the evening, he will travel to Newport, Wales, where he will remain overnight.

Thanks for the info Meta. He did look good didn’t he? Had an extra little spring in his step. I bet something cool is about to go down. All I know is that whenever the media is obsessed with him golfing, it usually means some major PBO badassedness is about to take place.

      • September 2, 2014 at 11:44 pm

He looked rested and more than ready for the day. IOW, very handsome!

        • 82 arapaho415
          September 2, 2014 at 11:51 pm

PBO is the definition of grace and elegance, handsome with a great stride too.

It’s beyond me how any American could not be proud to have him represent the USA on the foreign stage.

If our MSM would broadcast that Estonia feed (short and sweet arrival) instead of parroting what everyone else has said all day, then any American who isn’t a bigot would be grateful that he’s our President.

          • September 3, 2014 at 12:02 am

PBO’s phenomenal presence on the world stage as well as his countless achievements here and abroad are the furthest thing from MSM’s radar. The gossip mills are too busy making up hair-on-fire sound bites to pacify and sedate the boss.

I agree arapaho415, and what do you bet that the media back here in the U.S will give this trip much more attention then they have given the last four or five trips of POTUS. On POTUS last few trips the media here hardly mention he was overseas, but this will get attention cause they are hoping to see him fail.

For once, perfect timing on my part. Turned on the Estonian feed just as Air Force One taxied to its place, so I got to see PBO trot down the high steps of the plane, and greet and be greeted and SMILE, then get into the Beast. All is well. He has landed and will be well taken care of.

Like most of you, I never cared about Air Force One before, certainly never went to a live feed to watch it land and watch the president come down those tall steps.

Sending deep, heartfelt prayers for wisdom and courage for PBO, and wisdom and courage for those who will listen to him. May they make wise decisions these days,, and prevent horror and bloodshed in that part of the world. May they deal with Putin so he understands that he cannot push countries and leaders around. As Bob says: Trust Barack; he’s earned it.

Isn’t it funny? I think we look for him on all his travels because we know he’s always up to something interesting and we’re curious about all that. We follow along to see that he’s OK, to know he is being loved and honored and respected, to wish him well. It’s a total sense of security and source of great pride.

Thought you’d enjoy this interview in Italian with Terence Hill. They show clips from his old spaghetti western movies. I’m guessing you don’t speak Italian, but his voice is lovely :-) Can’t believe he was 69 when he did this! I watch episodes of Don Matteo (aka Father Hotness :-) ) every Monday night on MHZ online and he STILL looks good. They stream two subtitled episodes for American audiences at 9 and 10 p.m. and then again at 12 and 1 a.m. EST

The timing of the ISIS video with the start of PBO’s trip scares me. I haven’t worried about his travels for a very long time, but I sure hope the SS has extra precautions in place for this trip. Just way too many of the crazies passing easily around Europe. But it is heartwarming to see how warmly he is welcomed abroad given the shit here. I find it amusing that the website lists the best places to see the motorcade pass in Estonia. I also love it because his ongoing popularity in Europe is part of what drives the GOP insane:-)

This post was just what the day required, LL. Thank you. And something about it reminded me of the poem in Babette’s Feast (one of my favorite life-changer films). I went online to see if I could cut and paste it somewhere, rather than retyping it from a version I have on the wall above my desk. Didn’t find the poem yet, but I did find this fascinating little snippet (fascinating as in: another surprise from Pope Francis, in paragraph one of the piece) (I knew the film had a cult following, but not the Pope!):

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/27/us/pope-francis-has-a-few-words-in-support-of-leisure.html?_r=1&

So, here’s a toast to leisure time, and here ya go:

    (Poem from Babette’s Feast)

    Broken Vows

It is late last night – the dog was speaking of you
The snipe was speaking of you in her deep marsh
It is YOU were their only word, throughout the woods
And that you may be without a mate until you find me.
You promised me – and you said a lie to me –
That you would be before me, where the sheep are flocked
I gave a whistle and three hundred cries to you
And I found nothing there but a bleating lamb.
You promised me a thing that is hard got you:
A ship of gold under a silver mast
Twelve towns and a market in all of them
And a fine white court by the side of the sea.
You promised me a thing that is not possible:
That you would give me gloves of the skin of a fish
That you would give me shoes of the skin of a bird
And a suit of the dearest silk in Ireland.
My Mother told me not to be talking with you
Today or tomorrow or on Sunday
It was a bad time she took for telling me that
It was shutting the door after the house was robbed.
You have taken the East from me
You have taken the West from me
You have taken what is before me and what is behind me.
You have taken the Moon. You have taken the Sun from me.
And my fear is great you have taken God from me.

My pleasure. The segment was a breath of fresh air. I loved the comment that David Corn made about us not being able to have an adult conversation. It’s unfortunate that the media and the GOP are too busy criticizing and looking for soundbites to distract from the real issues. The real issues in most cases is that President Obama is trying to clean up the wreckage produced by the Bush administration.

I saw some article were Paul Ryan blaming Obama for the raise of ISIS. It’s just alot of B.S. from the media and GOP, and now some Democrats. It’s refreshing to see some adults disgusting these matters like adults and not throwing politics in there.

          • September 3, 2014 at 2:18 am

The saddest thing is those guys are so clueless, they REALLY think it’s true. They really think that the ISIS problem is mainly due to the fact that the US didn’t keep a few thousand more soldiers in Iraq.

Republicans have become the party of ignorants. They are every bit as ignorant and stupid about foreign policy as they are about economics. They don’t know history, they don’t understand the complex relations between the different peoples, groups, tribes of the Middle East. They view the world in simplistic terms. Is it ANY wonder why they screwed up so badly during the Bush years ?

    *** HEADS UP!!!
Dearest traveling companions (on the night watch): I. AM. HOME!! Thank you! I rolled in about an hour ago, emptied the car, had a long shower. and changed the bedding so I can have fresh homey sheets tonight. This is the FIRST time in my driving career that the trip home took waaayyy longer than the trip out! It’s also the first time I’ve driven for 11 hours with only a one hour stopping break (went shopping after we – 16yr old and I – got lost)! Anyways, it helped enormously to know that you were waiting ‘here at home’ for me to get in – I’m in now.
