I’m having a respectful but firm schooling with my nephew about unions, minimum wage, and that he shouldn’t get his economic education from Fox news. He adores me (he is my husband’s nephew) and respects me. I’m not insulting him, I’m engaging him.

Mad I missed earlier remarks—–after all these years of smartly subtracting one hour from “all times eastern” to get to my central time, for some reason today 9:10 eastern registered as 9:10 central. And I was off doing dumb morning chores. Gathering eggs? No, other stuff. I must have bumped my head in the night. Managed to ignore chips’ kind reminder too of “all times eastern”. I’m usually brighter than this. :)

To that end, confronted with a golden opportunity to be at least as bellicose than thou, Aqua Buddha has placed his isolationist principles atop the chiffarobe and strapped on the Kevlar — metaphorically, of course, because, come on, the man is a youngish Republican, and actual service is for suckers.

Best Tweet thus far this AM. I would also add…….Fact: The Two Americans killed, yes…..horrific and despicable…..however, they were outside USA doing a great service trying to report the News. Pres Obama tried to have them rescued in July.
The nearly 3000 killed by Al Qaeda in 2001, they were killed In USA…..and US had warnings and the GW Bush did Nada. His boneheaded response was to invade Iraq in 2003 and 11 yrs later, USA is still suffering for his Macho acts.

3000 Americans were home, thinking they were safe. The two Americans went to a dangerous country which were at war, they knew the risk they were taking. So how is their death Obama’s fault. More proof that fact means nothing to that piece of crap call FOX.

The CBS radio guy (didn’t catch his name, which I should know since I listen to the network radio news regularly) pissed me off when he asked Peter Maher “what did the President have to say about even Urkraine?” The “even” pissed me off because this was on the heels of him saying that PBO was “lowering expectations” on US response to the evil that is ISIS.

I wish these highly paid elite would wash their ears once in awhile.

David Corn *nailed* PBO’s foreign strategy last night on @Lawrence (h/t Ladyhawke and anniebella from yesterday). How many times does the President have to say that intractable foreign crises/incursions/terror require regional resolve and multi-national solutions?

The attack on bad teacher tenure laws is actually an attack on black professionals
By Andre M. Perry August 28

After the Vergara v. California decision in California’s state Supreme Court, which held that key job protections for teachers are unconstitutional, anti-union advocates everywhere began spawning copycat lawsuits. But while reformers may genuinely want to fix education for everyone, their efforts will only worsen diversity in the teaching corps. The truth is that an attack on bad teacher tenure laws (and ineffective teachers in general) is actually an attack on black professionals. If theVergara clones succeed, black children will lose effective teachers and the black community will lose even more middle-class jobs.

Black workers are most likely to hold public sector union jobs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, among the major ethnic groups, blacks (13.6 percent) represent the highest percentage of union members among the total number of workers (whites are 11 percent; Asians are 9.4 percent; and Hispanics are 9.4 percent), and the highest unionization rates among all professions were in the education services occupations (35.3 percent). In 26 of the 48 jurisdictions (states plus the District of Columbia) where at least some black and some white teachers are covered by collective bargaining agreements, blacks are more likely to be covered by agreements than whites. This is the case in California, where the Vergara decision originated. Blacks are more likely to teach in urban areas in many states, and so are more likely to be covered by collective bargaining. Therefore, black teachers have much at stake in the Vergara decision.

A man who killed an unarmed woman who banged on his door at night has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Theodore Wafer was convicted of the second-degree murder of Renisha McBride, 19, who was drunk when she crashed her car near his home in suburban Detroit.

Before sentencing, he apologised to her family and said: “I will carry that guilt and sorrow forever.”

The case raised the issue of the use of guns in self-defence in the US.

Report on sentencing ….- “An unjustified fear is never an excuse to take someone’s life.”

    //……………………….

That means he will serve at least 17 years in prison before being eligible for parole.

“This one of the saddest cases,” said Hathaway, who teared up as she delivered the sentence. “An unjustified fear is never an excuse to take someone’s life.”

Wafer shot and killed Renisha McBride, 19, who was intoxicated and had been involved in a car crash when she banged on his front door early on a rainy morning last November, apparently seeking help.
