Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has approved contacts with US military officials to help defeat Islamic State militants.

Well, AMK, I guess the president’s “strategy” to build a coalition of ME states against ISIS is working. Don’t think we’ll be hearing Madame Feinstein or anyone in the media apologizing any time soon.

    • September 5, 2014 at 8:11 am

For mcangry and company, diplomacy is a concept that they will never understand, much less accept. Their lack of diplomatic skills make them worthless when this route is taken. PBO’s resistance in going the “bomb, bomb, bomb” route is depriving them of their relevance, much less the material gains that war would bring to them and theirs.

Over here don’t a day go by without some poll telling us how his approval numbers are going down. Democrats are distancing themselves from him, and I will not get started with the disrespect the right wing have shown this President. The media and some others are trying to drive a wedge between POTUS and the black community, won’t happen.

    • 80 jackiegrumbacher

Well, Hf, their livelihoods depend on it. That they’re paid to trash the president has been obvious for some time. They are GOP courtiers who live to please their overlords.

        September 5, 2014 at 9:08 am

Given PBO has been elected twice & the red states seem to be falling apart at the minute – the media hasn’t been all that successful in its efforts – another reason to smile.

      • 82 hopefruit2
        September 5, 2014 at 9:11 am

Surprisingly, haven’t really seen too much media emphasis on it since it came out, but the day is yet young, so there’s still time. Maybe some silly US journalist might ask him about it at the presser later this morning. Or Chuckie Toad might bring it up in that NBC interview…

The reality is that the report is not bad, and will probably be revised upwards next month (as we’ve seen before). The ADP numbers (which tend to be more accurate in the long run) showed 209 jobs for the month of August. In all, 54 consecutive months of job growth and all other indicators (besides just job numbers) reflect a growing economy. So there’s not a whole lot for the media to harp on on the jobs front.

CNN is having a sad (online).

They are truly insane – the US has weathered the world downturn better than any other country – and only reason is because they had an administration that didn’t force austerity on the country. The GOP and the media really seem to hate their own country.

      From pierretteY yesterday:

      http://theobamadiary.com/2014/09/04/chat-away-432/#comment-1128317

“for people like Mr. Todd, their hate for this POTUS is personal, and when the hate is personal, it is very dangerous.”

Others in TODville speculated that this is a set up for upChuck, which I can see happening.

PBO is so much smarter than that smug, overpaid, gossipy, DC bubble jackass whose knowledge extends to only one thing — (the horserace!!!).

It seems to me that PBO has deliberately ignored most of the front-row jackals in his recent press conferences, so there must be a reason to seek out upChuck.

Although it might be just for legacy’s sake — PBO appearing on the first (and no doubt soon-to-be last) upChuck MTP.

I have been deeply concerned about Putin’s nuclear threat in Ukraine and so far have not seen this addressed in any public discussion about the NATO meeting. Putin will have to be put on notice that he can’t get away with this, but what will be the NATO response? It’s one thing to brandish nuclear threats against a non-nuclear state like Ukraine (like the coward Putin is), but it’s another thing all together to threaten nukes when a coalition of nuclear powers stands against you. Wish someone would ask this question at the press conference. The stakes are astronomically high here.

    • September 5, 2014 at 10:31 am

Ukraine hasn’t obtained much from NATO ; a few millions and statements of “solidarity”. It’s pretty clear that the West feels it has to sacrifice Ukraine to Putin, in order to maintain peace in Europe.

Putin doesn’t have to make a nuclear threat to “win” in Ukraine. He’ll just use conventional war. He won’t care very much longer to hide Russia’s direct involvement in Ukraine.

So why the bravado, the veiled threats ? Because Putin knows that President Obama and other leaders are not bluffing when it comes to defending the Baltic states, which are NATO members. Putin is just blowing up steam. I hope.

This was very striking and intriguing to me! I just finished reading this when I saw this….seems as if we will partner with Iran to defeat ISIS….Cooperation is a definite understatement…but welcome indeed:) PBO TERRIFIES THE RW! He is busting up all the objects they previously used to instill fear on the citizens of the US to get what they wanted (WAR and MAYHEM and GLOBAL INSTABILITY) This cooperation with Iran is a STUNNING and welcomed partnership….head’s are busy exploding in boardrooms and country clubs all over America :)

  23. September 5, 2014 at 9:17 am

Just a tongue in cheek observation…it seems that PBO is Cameron’s BFF. In most of the pictures, Cameron is next to or in close proximity of PBO. :-)

At any rate, it’s hard for the media to suggest dissention between PBO and the world leaders (at least most of them) by watching their interaction at these events. Real animosity is hard to disguise and if it were there, I’m sure the media would happily make it known.

    • 98 carolyn
      September 5, 2014 at 9:24 am

Yes, Cameron always seems to get next to PBO! I have noticed that Cameron is much more human when he’s with PBO. Not as stiff and unbending. I think he wants some of PBO’s charisma and glamor to rub off on to him……PBO is always surrounded by people, never isolated. People just want to be near him.

      • 99 99ts
        September 5, 2014 at 9:29 am

There is also no doubt that he listens to PBO – your President has a mindset that many would love to have – there is little doubt that they want to hear what he says – and copy what he does. Compare PBO in the UK to Romney’s little jaunt – the world breathed the sigh of relief when Romney lost.

      • 100 arapaho415
        September 5, 2014 at 9:45 am

        Agree, Carolyn.

I viewed Twitter timelines of some Brits during PBO’s last visit to London.

PBO is clearly adored in England, who admire him on so many levels.

There was a lot of discussion of UK leaders desperate to be seen with PBO, hoping that some of his magic would rub off on them, LOL.

    • September 5, 2014 at 10:17 am

Cameron is host. He gets to sit with the leader of the free world.

Is the U.S President the leader of the free world because people look and depend on the U.S. to do everything. A problem comes up, let’s call the U.S., let them solve it.

        • September 5, 2014 at 1:28 pm

No PBO says it is the greatest nation in the world. This has benefits and responsibilities. It seems to me that he has accepted both by creating partnerships in a meaningful way.

You think she is Linda, I heard some media who seem to take pleasure in telling us that more Senators are distancing themselves from the President, and they didn’t like his no strategy against ISIS, and because his approval numbers are down they feel like they can say these things. I said to myself, politics is crap.

Betsy, if you are still here….
An answer to your question,”Why is Bill de Blasio backing Cuomo?”

Cuomo hold the purse strings. He is vengeful and mean.
Last year, when Mayor de Blasio held a rally for pre-K Cuomo (with Eva Moskowitz and probably bankrolled by Bloomberg) held a competing rally. Cuomo and Eva gave 20,000 kids and their parents matching tee-shirts, the day off, and a comfortable bus trip to Albany—lunches may have been included.

The Press went to Cuomo’s rally and ignored the Mayors.
Next, Bill de Blasio backed away from his propsed tax on millionaires to be used to pay for pre-K.

    • 113 amk for obama
      September 5, 2014 at 9:47 am

Didn’t de blasio sweep the mayoral election with something like 75% of votes from all boroughs, except SI? So what is he afraid of?

      So much for backbone.

      • 114 Vicki
        September 5, 2014 at 10:08 am

        Yes, de Blasio won big.

Banks and real estate own NY, the Mayor does not.
Cuomo has the solid backing of real estate, banks, investment houses, ALL the conservative RW 1% apparatus. Koch-funded and Ken Langone from Home Depot is a big Cuomo backer.

deBlasio has the people, true, but

The people cannot fund his programs. Nor can they blanket the airwaves to get their messages out.

        • 115 amk for obama
          September 5, 2014 at 10:13 am

Yes, it amy be all true, but wasn’t that the exact reason he ran for office?

          • 116 Vicki
            September 5, 2014 at 10:38 am

Bill de Blasio ran for office to make things better in every way he can. So far, he has done amazing things for NYC. This week 51,000 4 year olds showed up for class.
The Mayor is a grown-up and knows how to pick his battles.
            Just like PBO!
