Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes is in deep water with progressives and immigration advocates after her campaign ran an ad calling undocumented immigrants “illegal aliens” and bizarrely accusing her opponent, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), of being soft on immigration. Grimes’ ad, first reported by Vox, criticizes McConnell for voting for “amnesty” — in 1986. The ad doesn’t mention his many votes against immigration reform since, including his opposition to the 2013 Senate bill that Grimes has said she would have supported. (That bill, according to its supporters, was not “amnesty” because of the strict qualifications it would have required before undocumented immigrants could gain legal status.) In the ad, Grimes, who is Kentucky’s secretary of state, doesn’t talk up immigration reform or support for a path to citizenship, which she has voiced before. “I’ve never supported amnesty or benefits for illegal immigrants, and I never will,” Grimes says in the spot.

Rise and Shine

On This Day - Pete Souza: “Light matters. The paper that the President was writing on provided some fill light as he worked at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.” Oct. 18, 2013

Tomorrow

President Obama will appear with Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown at a high school in Prince George’s County to rally support for Brown’s gubernatorial campaign.

After, the President will travel to Chicago where he will spend the night.

The President’s schedule for next week has yet to be confirmed.

On This Day

Sen. Barack Obama waves during a campaign event at the Gateway arch in the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial October 18, 2025 in St Louis, Missouri

One Of The Great RWNJ Conspiracy Theories:

That the photos from the 2008 St Louis rally where Photoshopped

I read this thread that night on FreeRepublic (RWNJ central), and I still haven’t stopped laughing:

Willyd:

This 100,000 is B.S.

You can see from the pics being posted that the crowd was photoshopped. You can also see from Google that there is crowd where a major freeway runs between the arches and the old court house. Also, you can tell by the crowds in the video on CNN that there were way less then 100,000 and probably more like 5-10,000 tops.

Why are papers across the country running more photoshopped ap pictures?

I haven’t seen this kind of propaganda since I lived in Nigeria.

stlnative:

Looks like shenanigans, you betcha. I suggest contacting NewsBusters, Rush, etc.

****

Then Willyd started posting photos that he said proved the crowd size was faked.

That had everyone all a-tingle

lefty-lie-spy

Wow, that is disturbing. Where did this “original” photo of the photoshopping come from? How do we get exposure of this fakery?

There certainly is some funny business going on. A lot of “official” web sites are using that crowd picture, so it must be approved by the Obama campaign and delivered by them.

Its so scary to think that the media is pulling for this Communist, and that if he is elected, they will be the first people to be censored.

Willyd:

Can anyone produce any other photos that match those taken by the ap photog? Have you seen any other pictures of the event online? I would like to see other pictures of the event before going down the forensic photoshop route.

From a preliminary look though, it seems that at a certain point (consisent with where the crowds end in the CNN footage) the crowd gets very pixelated and when blown tends to blur more quickly then the people in the row just in front of them and to the same extent as the crowd way in the back.

And then the video appeared, and Free Republic - including Free Willyd - fell silent:
