Well didn’t slash my wrists yesterday😉 I like the way one of my daughter in laws put it this morning… “are you still grieving the incompetence of our society”? Less so today.. my President helped me over the hump🙂 If he can take it, so can I. I still believe the media is our biggest obstacle- they will continue to misinform and lie to the public, I don’t believe the repubs could have won without the lies the media allowed to go unchecked these past years. We have got to be louder about informing folks and calling out the media lies… my opinion.

I love that phrase “incompetence of our society”. We are blessed, we have faults here in America, but when you look around at other countries you realize we are blessed, but yet citizens from a war torn country will get out to vote more then this country citizens. America the great. Every American who didn’t vote out to be ashame of themselves.

Folks, I’ve thought about this many times before and wanted to share it with you. As you know the idea of democracy by representation when our country was founded may have been largely necessary due to the fact that communication and travel involved time delays and expense and was essentially prohibitive. People couldn’t get to a central meeting place (in DC or otherwise) because the mode of transportation was horses and there was no phone, internet, etc. However, in today’s world that obviously isn’t the case. Now that our representation is over-shadowed and drowned out by lobbyists for multi-nationalists corporations and billionaires like the Koch brothers it seems that a logical change would be to vote directly on issues and eliminate the corrupt middle man (senators and representatives).

Of course this idea would be fought tooth and nail by the entrenched Congressional lobbyists and corporations who would no longer get to steal your vote.

One objection to this in the past has been the thought that voters would not be as capable in understanding the issues as the “informed representative”. However, as we know the majority of congressional reps vote based upon how it will affect his/her reelection. Gun control, minimum wage increase, immigration reform, tax reform to remove tax breaks for oil companies and other issues the President has championed are supported by the majority of Americans. And as is very evident in the election last week, even in red states the minimum wage was supported by the majority so the worry that voters don’t understand the issue and how it affects them is not a valid argument, imho.

This is something that I think deserves attention; a real solution to the idea of “throwing the bums out”, the bums who have a 12% approval rating, the bums who didn’t even support their own party’s president in their last election. It would get rid of the money in congressional elections and other corruption. And we would own our vote 100%. There would be no need for an elected Congress anymore; just a commission appointed by the President that would coordinate the issues that need to be voted on. Then the elected President would sign those bills approved by the citizens.

I would like to think that an online petition of this would get millions of citizens signing it.

I’m very interested in your thoughts on it.

    • 56 MightyPamela
      November 6, 2025 at 1:47 pm

I think if many were to give this concept serious thought, forus50, it would gain momentum quickly. Many, most, are connected to the internet now, which we all know BigMoney is attempting to control as well. Perhaps you might begin drafting a petition, and get things moving. Your ideas are succinct. I only ave a few minutes right now, but wanted to respond.

      • 57 forus50
        November 6, 2025 at 1:51 pm

Thanks MP! I should have clarified that the citizen voting would be by mail or internet but both trackable; whichever they prefer. It could be very structured in a scheduled vote- on any issues that need to be voted on- once a month on the 15th, for example. Something that would get a much bigger citizen participation than most elections.

I am not so sure that this will improve the situation very much. We here in California have a great deal of familiarity with direct democracy, through the initiative process. In quite a few initiatives, corporate money was used to fool people to vote against their interests. For example, initiatives like prop. 13 and prop. 8 were heavily funded by outside interests, lobbyists and corporations. The same forces pouring money in electing bad representatives would redirect their money to propaganda ads to convince people to vote against their interests. I am also not sure how this would work when it comes to the budget and allocating resources to fund government programs. Moreover, to change from Representative democracy to direct democracy would require amending almost the entire U.S. Constitution, which is not a very easy task. In my opinion, the only cure to curb the influence of corrupt money is to ban private financing of elections and replace it with public financing.

Two Republican election judges in Chicago were removed from their positions in the Republican Party on Tuesday, they say, over objecting to robocalls directing them to vote for GOP candidates.

    Good afternoon, TOD!
I just finally was able to catch up.
Thank you for so much all the upbeat, encouraging, warrior posts here. It truly helped me and others here to keep on keeping on.
I have learned whenever things seem at their worst to go out and give, volunteer and encourage someone else. I did just that on Wednesday. We gave out clothes, food, hugs, smiles and love to others and I felt so much better. It is called coummnity organizer.
And then I came home and viewed our President deliver the most coolest, calmest, intelligent presser ever!
He just took charged, set the tone and kick assed all at the same time.

I cannot express in words how powerful that made me feel. How grateful I am to be alive and witness this remarkable President.
How can one person being so much light to dark places? I asked myself that question. And the answer is he is about TRUTH…..simple.
That is who he is and that has not changed and never will.
It is the reason we will keep fighting with him, having his back, pushing back lies and distorted truths that those in the dark will never see.
Thank you,Ms. Chips and everyone here who will stand for the TRUTH and nothing but the TRUTH.

The Democrats are supposed to be a party of inclusion, right? A party that is proud of its outreach to AA’s, Latinos, women, LGBT’s, etc. A party that promotes civil rights, human rights, women’s rights…. But by candidates distancing themselves from PBO, Democrats missed an opportunity to *show* what they stand for, and in fact sent a mixed message.

We have long come to the conclusion that if Barack Obama were a white, heterosexual male with a name like “John Smith,” he would have been embraced for the man that he is; his accomplishments would have been heralded; his character unquestioned; his intelligence appreciated; his position as POTUS and CIC respected.

We also know that many who claim to dislike Barack Obama, do so, not because of something he has done, but because of who he is…a black man with a funny name. His attributes are discounted because he does not fit the mold that some have envisioned for the POTUS. These racists attitudes have resulted in the obstruction and gridlock we see in our legislation. These racist attitudes, while not preventing individuals from enjoying the benefits of PBO’s hard work as POTUS, prevents him from receiving the credit he so rightly deserves.

By distancing themselves from PBO, *those* Democrats have basically condoned the racists attitudes of President Obama’s adversaries. By not being vocal in giving this administration credit for its accomplishments, *those* Democrats are basically acquiescing to the mindset that a black man cannot be given that kind of praise. By remaining silent to the misinformation, the outright lies, the fabricated scandals, and the disrespect, *those* Democrats are in effect giving consent to these actions.

If actions speak louder than words, *those* Democrats’ actions have said a mouthful and is nowhere near the message about how the party claims it wants to be portrayed. Even if it had not made a difference to the outcome of the mid-terms, the respect for being true to what the party says they represent would have been intact.

And if you’re still fighting with us… if you’re still standing with the President… sign our note to President Obama thanking him for all he’s done and letting him know that we have his back.”

SWB, this is a fantastic depiction of what the DCCC represented. As DonnaDem mentioned in an earlier post, they let the Republicans define them and never pushed back. Instead, they ran away from all of the good things which they voted for in order to disassociate themselves with the greats inspirer of all times. Thank Goodness, Tom Wolf had the sense to see that he needed POTUS to inspire the voters in PA. Ohio and others could have done the same. There is no one in the Democratic party who can draw a crowd of 10k with standing room only except PBO.

Despite the fact that Dems took the state wide offices, not much was done to support Dems in red districts to Congress or to our State Legislature. This apparent acceptance by the party of low turnout of DEMS in mid-terms even here in CA is unacceptable.

WASHINGTON, Nov 6 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama sent a secret letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last month stressing the two countries’ shared interest in fighting Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, a media report on Thursday said.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the letter in mid-October said cooperation between the United States and Iran on combating the militant group was tied to a deal being reached between Iran and other nations on its nuclear program.

The newspaper cited people briefed on the letter. It said Obama administration officials declined to discuss the letter with the Journal.

leaked or leaked on purpose ? I wonder if Sen Menendez is behind this.

    Good Afternoon TODVille!

This one is seeking the limelight.

Yes, he is. Heard him on 60 Minutes and thought same. My husband was all ears — specifically watched intently when most of the time he pays little attention.

So he runs to Fox ? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Shame on him. I won’t be watching.

I never watched these fools. The whole point of the SEALS is to keep their work secret. Why rushing to the first camera offered to spill it out, if not for private gains and glory?

So he just made himself a target. What does he have to gain except his 15 minutes?

I don’t think this is accurate. He likely was not part of the OBL Navy Seal team directly involved with the capture and killing of OBL. It’s a federal crime to disclose secret information and and running to the MSM is even more egregious.

And as always, I caution folks to take any report from WaPo or FOX News with a half-grain of salt….

Various other updates, via RTs, in the sidebar.

Looks like the Israelis leaked President Obama’s letter to Iran’s SL, btw.

Everyone who supports our brilliant president felt Alison Grime’s “I’m a Clinton Democrat” as a slap in the face and a knife in his back.

I don’t live in KY and don’t give to out of state candidates. I learned that participation in other people’s elections simply skew tperceived success. Because on Election Day, outside popularity doesn’t translate into votes unless local participation is great.

Grimes was a real piece of work. I am glad she lost. She would have had a better chance supporting the President and telling them loud and clear kynect that you love so much is Obamacare. She didn’t even try.

So being the Clinton Democrat sure help Ms. Grimes, didn’t it. I think Ashley Judd could have done better.
