    Keith Boykin @keithboykin
The public agrees with Obama on most key issues but the Democrats spent more time running away from him instead of defending him.
    ***

^^^ As an aside, what really continues to make me feel stupid is that I defended the likes of Bill Clinton, when he was in office, and then got a good look at him in ’08 in SC. I pray to God the Clintons will just head home in the next couple of years, and leave the rest of us the hell alone.

JOB, I couldn’t defend Clinton at the time, although I had voted for him twice and supported him. That he would risk everything because he couldn’t control his impulses just enraged me. He brought us GW Bush and all the misery that followed and I have never truly forgiven him for that fiasco.

Truth be told, I didn’t necessary mean I defended his personal actions … I just had watched his “takedown” by Rs creep on, and picked the opposite side on that. Before we got GW Bush, my rage set in when we lost Al Gore. Please excuse the expression, but Bill Clinton can kiss my Democratic ass.

our governor abercrombie, who sadly lost his primary battle for a second term, is being recognized for his work to ensure lgbt marriage rights. there has been speculation that his stance on gay marriage was his downfall, but it’s also said his problem is he’s an old white guy in a multi-racial state. the newly elected governor ige was his close associate.

‘ The Equality Hawaii Foundation will present Abercrombie with the Steven H. Levinson Trailblazer Award at its annual gala on Nov. 22…..
The award is named for the former Hawaii Supreme court Justice who wrote the nation’s first appellate decision saying the state’s marriage laws were unconstitutional because they didn’t allow same-sex couples to marry. ‘

      Exactly, swbluega.
Because it is not about only the money.
It is about power that you have and enjoy preventing others from sharing.
PBO mentioned this in a recent speech when he cited the unfortuneate GOP belief in a zero sum game.
Decent people see the world through a lens that is superior to “all for me and nothing for you.” POTUS didn’t say “decent” but his meaning was clear.

      SWBG,

You hit the nail on the head.

Why doesn’t the MSM/Kochs ask that question — what motivates the super rich to throw huge sums of money at elections?

For someone like Tom Steyer, he’s truly interested in protecting the awesomeness that is the USA’s natural resources.

For someone like Kochs, Adelson — it’s for greed — to be able to game the system to your personal advantage at the expense of people who have lost jobs, lost homes, and struggle to simply feed themselves and their families.

Shameful MSM, shameful 1% who support GOP candidates.

[Lawd, I've been trying to catch up & post this for ages. Pooter problems. Anyhoo, this is a London Times (UK) opinion article, which is behind a paywall, don't know if any BT can get the whole thing. I would rather say "Yes.He.Did!" than the title of the Opinion by Phillip Collins posted on 11/7/14]:

Yes He could. Obama is a truly great president
He succeeded where illustrious predecessors such as FDR, JFK and Clinton failed — and he’ll leave an impressive legacy.

He succeeded where illustrious predecessors such as FDR, JFK and Clinton failed – and he’ll leave an impressive legacy
Everyone who was alive at the time knows where they were when John F Kennedy tried to kill them. Or at least they know where he was, which was in the White House, playing at nuclear brinkmanship with Khrushchev over the Cuban missile crisis. The reason it is hard to recall where you were whenever Bill Clinton did anything important is that he never did. [.....]

[.....] Mr. Obama has actually done, in other words what Democrats have before only talked of doing. [.....] Ascending to the White House on a wave of gorgeous sound, Mr. Obama excited hopes that could never be satisfied but that should not obscure the fact that he achieved more than the Kennedys or Clintons that British politicians so oddly revere. Africa, I tried to pick out bits, but their paywall stopped me from getting more quotes. Lots more there, especially about ACA & cleaning up Dubya’s mess. I still have an issue when each article just simplistically write that his popularity is so, so low. In comparison to what? Himself? That meme was put out there and no dem orgs stood up to debunk the crap. We actually need Twitter Warriors to debunk hard on that meme. Nevertheless, the article is worth a read. I’d love to pass all these articles to those “I’m a Clinton Democrat” folks. It’s time for them to quit their fear of The Black Man and paid-for-media, and celebrate what he’s achieved despite all. Stand Up, for goodness sake! I have never been so proud of my President and First Lady. They are amazing.

My two cents regarding one particular race of last Tuesday: Alison Grimes v. Mitch McConnell.

I am not hand-wringing about this loss nor the fact that Grimes ran away from the President. Think about it: Grimes was most likely going to lose this race anyway, given today’s political reality — not an idealized goal of Kentuckians awakening from their slumber and flipping from red to blue in an off-year election against an institutionalized, well-connected career politician like McConnell.

Being that I support PBO, I don’t like the idea of Grimes losing a closer election after having PBO coming and campaigning for her. Then, the narrative would have been that he was responsible for her defeat. She had no courage nor vision — better that PBO wasn’t pulled into that vortex, and that her shunning him seems to have earned a bigger loss than she would have had otherwise.

Now, the fact that the Kentucky Democratic Party, as well as the national Democratic Party, seems to be feckless, wishy-washy, and double-minded (and therefore unstable in all their ways) needs to be addressed. Only clarity, fortitude, and organization from the ground up, in all precincts have a chance of pulling off a feat like unseating an entrenched, money-backed crook like Turtle.

I think there is a strong silver lining in the cloud that was the November 2014 Election: PBO has the veto pen, and he is free from trying to herd scaredycats. While I don’t put much faith in the ability of the American people to logically examine the actions of congresspeople, I think Americans tend to look back with “what did we do” when things eventually go off the rails, as it inevitably will do in the republican-led states, and in Congress. Then, they will over-correct again.

I’m quite excited about what the next, final two years of PBO’s presidency will hold. You can’t be a lame duck when you’re in the forefront of the minds of all the people (friend and foe alike), all the time. Onward.

Great perspective, PJ. I love your last line..”You can’t be a lame duck when you’re in the forefront of the minds of all people (friend and foe alike) all the time.” I would say that PBO is in our hearts, while he is an obsession in the minds of Republicans and the media. They cannot figure him out or trap him or outwit him and it drives them mad.

      • 56 PoliticalJunkessa
        November 9, 2025 at 6:17 pm

Indeed, Jackie. I have never seen such obsession as the obsession of PBO’s detractors. I had to laugh when Eric Cantor whined that PBO didn’t call him when he lost his primary! Really?!?!? Ha! It seems like I can’t watch any show or listen to any radio broadcast or any podcast — on any subject under the sun — and before long Barack Obama’s name or related topic comes up. It’s amazing how he is a part of the consciousness of this era.

Of course, we love and support him. And lots of Americans plain old like him. I’ll always believe that’s the truth. You don’t come onto the scene the way PBO did in 2008 and not arouse fierce emotions that will dissolve into something so mundane as “lame duck.” We’ll all be watching and listening.

      PoliticalJunkessa,

Love your comments. They reflect a bit of what I wrote the night of the elections. Adding to your points is the fact that throughout the campaign, the polls DID say that Dems were most likely going to lose, and that in all these red states where people were on a steady diet of Fox News and Boss Limbaugh 24/7 by default, climbing the 7-8 hills of Democratic Senate victories would be unprecedented in off year election. But for volunteer and supporters it was hard to admit the challenge and we let ourselves believe that those candidates, wishy-washy themselves, could do miracles. I would not even honor Grimes with a comment. She deserved none. Hopefully, other Clinton Dems as she would point out her flaws in case she is still considering national politics.

But your comment about the DNC and the DCC and all of them who have bombarding us with e-mails and request for donations is right on target. They need a backbone, a vision, political convictions (they have none) and certainly a new strategy. You see, the President cannot do Dems job while he has a country to run and terrorists to neutralize. If it didn’t have the Teabaggers constantly attacking him when they are not just directly threatening his authority, he might find some time to school these Dem leaders in the art of strategy and long-term plan. How can they expect him to excel at his job while taking on theirs?
      ——-

In other news: I am glad to be back with TODVille. I was away for a couple of days and was completely removed from the news. I am reading ferociously now.

Despite being the most caring and empathetic man on the planet (except for The Pope, perhaps), PBO is also one of the more ruthless (in a good way) after he has compromised for the good of the country.

PBO is no fool, and after this pitiful showing by the Dems, he’s no doubt had it with them.

He will draw more of his enemies closer (not the cowardly ones) and ignore emoPutins.

His eye is on the prize, which is what is good for the American people as a whole.

Yes, we need someone who is FULL TIME, and will go on shows and not back down, like crazy Priebus does. Besides, that would make RWNJ heads explode! They’d try and try to bring up his scream, but this is something that should be admired. Don’t the Republicans scream all the time? It’s time we did some screaming!!

We have GOT to get some young, vocal, committed leaders in our party. I know we’re not supposed to talk about age….why??? but one reason PBO appealed to young people was his age! He is not a dinosaur. I love Joe devotedly, but his age is against him. Hillary is, as my college students would say: “So last century!” I know we call the Republican primaries a clown car, but at least they get attention. We cannot have a primary with Hillary running against PBO. We Have to get some youth and backbone…….how do we do this?

And as soon as I said youth, I thought of one person who has backbone and just published a thoughtful book on foreign policy in which he destroys GWB…and that is Gen. Wesley Clark. We saw him in 2004 when he was running, and he is quite compelling in person. He actually won the Demo primary here.

Let’s do some brainstorming and bombard the DNC……as I say all the time from my experience in the Senate, Numbers count! One letter doesn’t make a dent, but pile up the numbers, and the powers that be begin to listen. That’s what the right wing does. They shower their people with mail. electronic and surface, and phone. We have to build an infrastructure to support candidates.

    • 79 Bobfr (@Our4thEstate)

I think his taking responsibility is a wise move, df, because it only strengthens his ability to exert tremendous pressure on the Democratic Party machine. The last thing you want from a leader is excuses and pushing the blame onto others, even when it was ‘the others’ who caused the problem.

      While awaiting moderation ….

“”Never Again” applies not only to Jews, Jewish leaders are beginning to declare, but also to the ISIS-besieged Yezidis in Iraq and northern Syria.

Rabbi Eliezer Melamed of Har Brachah and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, are two public Jewish leaders who have come out in favor of “crying out” for the plight of the Yezidis.

Though 51 women and children were freed from ISIS captivity last week, the plight of many thousands of other Yezidis continues to be grim. They are essentially trapped atop a large mountain top, surrounded by ISIS fighters who have made it their goal to kill their males and enslave their women. Even the American bombing raids on ISIS in the region have tapered off of late, causing Yezidis and their supporters further hopelessness.”

“SLAVUTYCH, Ukraine — The city of Slavutych was built almost 30 years ago to house evacuated workers and specialists trying to contain the fallout from the nuclear power disaster in neighboring Chernobyl. Today some of Chernobyl’s veterans have another mission: building improvised armored vehicles for Kiev’s offensive against pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

The idea came in August, when several of the veterans and their colleagues at EnergoAtom, Ukraine’s state agency for nuclear energy, heard about Ukrainian soldiers going to the front line in battered school buses. They came up with a plan to build safer vehicles themselves.

“We figured if we can fix problems in nuclear power stations, we probably can fix just about anything,” said Vitaliy Shykun, the director of EnergoAtom’s department of repair and service.

Teams of 12 to 15 volunteers spent their weekends off in EnergoAtom’s workshop, where they worked around the clock to outfit minivans into boxy-looking, steel-reinforced military personnel vehicles. Another team of volunteers then drove the vans to the eastern front line, where volunteer battalions and national guard units use them in the fight against the rebels of the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic.”

Though I don’t have a TV, I often turn on the radio at 7pm Sundays since it’s simulcast on the local CBS radio station here.

She was on the premier segment a few weeks back, and I ranted here at TOD then.

Cannot believe that CBS would give her assignments as if she weren’t part of the huge problem with MSM — like Sharyl Attikkisson, another embarrassment for journalism.

60 minutes credibility is circling the drain, and I say that as someone who has watched since it debuted in the 1960s.

In 2012, when Deval Patrick told the Democrats that it was time for them to grow a backbone, he hit the nail on the head. Over the past couple of years, that nail got taps with each question as to why Democrats were not pushing back against the lies and obstruction of the GOP and MSM. The mid-term elections and its results hammered the nail home.

*Now* the Democratic “leadership” wants to inspect what they’ve built. But the repair process may be lengthy and it may be difficult to undo the mistakes that were ignored; the warnings that were not heeded.

I remember when Deval Patrick were campaigning for Martha Coakley and he said the exact same thing about Democrats. But they never grew that backbone did they?. I always felt that Kay Hagan ought to have been having the President and First Lady come to North Carolina to campaign like on college campus.

OK, I know that Dems didn’t go out to vote. But I swear TODers, maybe I am crazy. But something just doesn’t sit well with me about this election. I believe in my soul that because of the low number voting, the GOP just stole the whole thing. There, I said it. I can’t keep it in any longer. I hope you guys won’t think I am crazy. But this has bothered me since last Wednesday morning.
