Morning all. Bringing this over from the bottom of last post…

Good morning, TOD. Dropping in as I try waking, via caffeine. Rough day ahead, funeral for a neighborhood Auntie this morning. The past year it seems my “social” life has consisted of funerals/memorials at least 2-3 times per month; I’ve only attend one each of a Birthday, anniversary, and baby shower parties. I’ve also only attended one jazz weekend, three concerts (one hosted at my home); if up to it, I’m going to see Black Violins this evening at a local university. “Life 101″ is currently NOT like I envisioned it would be; however, I DO count my Blessings…

May you have a day filled with love, peace and joy!

Oh, Alycee, I’m so sorry you’re facing a funeral today of someone special to your neighborhood. I hope the positive events begin to outnumber the sad ones, especially as the holidays draw near.

I’m so sorry, Alycee. My condolences to you and all who share your loss. May you find peace in beautiful memories of her. Feed your soul with music and the love of those around you. She would want that for you.

Hope you get a nap to fully enjoy your evening with the Black Violins.

Thank you, one and all, for your prayers, condolences, and best wishes. Didn’t mean to sound so maudlin; the circle of life is what it is. Like I said, I DO COUNT MY BLESSINGS! Among them:

      1. My Mom is alive; relatively well; in her right mind; and on some days, still trying to run my life… LOL! :-)
      2. Although faced with health issues, I receive excellent medical care…
      3. Although very far from rich (quickly dropping from “comfortable” middle-class due to stagnant income and rising inflation), I have ENOUGH to take care of all of my needs, a few of my wants, and enough to share…
      4. I have PBO in the White House; and Family of blood and of the heart (including TOD),; each of whom are trying in their own special way to make this world a better place.
      5. …and the list goes on…

      I’m Blessed.

    Good morning TOD.
    Nothing much has changed overnight.
Jon Tester’s first tweet has apparently continued the DINOS distancing themselves scenario.
Steve Israel, instead of being sent out of town has been elevated to a messaging position. The only message I heard him deliver in recent times is one that depressed democrats and helped assist a Repub victory. His fellow NY State congressmen did especially poorly.

Maybe it is just me but I am on pins and needles as 3 big events are unfolding:
    Ferguson decision—-When already?
    Immigration EO—soon? After Ferguson?
    Iran/US deal or no deal?

Cold in NYC. Not too bad, though.

We need a massive reconfiguring of the democratic party with new young Progressive leaders. No shortage of talent exists: The Castro brothers, Gavin Newsom, Bill deBlasio, Wendy Davis, Martin O’Malley, Anthony Brown, Kamala harris, thats just off the top of my head—must be dozens more.

      November 18, 2025 at 9:25 am

Vicki-I dread the Ferguson announcement with its potential of people getting hurt. I hope everyone stays calm and out of harm’s way. Nixon, the Ferguson police and St Louis County officials want a confrontation so they can justify unspeakable oppression. I pray God that this doesn’t happen.

We have ample reason to be worried.

Agree with you about the DEM party and how they seem to be doubling down on ineffective mediocrity. So depressing.

Agree with your list of new blood with the exception of Gavin Newsom, who was my mayor for a few years. He’s a rich guy who didn’t accomplish all that much, left the city in debt. Had an affair with his manager’s wife while in office. Dissed PBO in favor of HRC in the primaries. Holds a ceremonial position now as Lt. Gov where he does exactly squat. He comes off as a great liberal but he’s very ineffective with regard to actually getting things done. He did promote gay marriage but really, that’s about it.

It seems that a certain Dems are pining for the good ol’ days of the Clinton Era (1990s) when they were flying high and could easily push their GOP-lite policies under the guise of being “Democrats.” They resent President Obama and his multi-ethnic, truly diverse and inclusive coalition, and are threatened by it because it represents change that they are not ready for.

Every single thing I’m seeing about the Clinton campaign verifies every word of what you say.
And her cloying, disingenuous “I haven’t decided if I’m running” ruse that everyone seems to have swallowed hook, line and sinker reeks of excessive self-serving manipulation.
          She’s not real.

What is real is that EVERY person she and Big Mouth/Big Dog campaigned for LOST.
Kiss of death Clintons—Wendy Gruell marjorie mezvinsky, Alison LG, Pryor, on and on.
Lady Walmart is a proven loser.
What galls me is her determination to help bring down PBO along with her.

    http://www.politicususa.com/2014/11/17/bernie-sanders-republicans-nervous-obamacare.html

Sen. Sanders (I-VT) said, “It tells us that you have a program that is working well. That they have overcome the problems that they initially had. It tells me that about seventy-five percent of the people on the exchanges think that the healthcare they are getting is good, and I think this is making our Republican colleagues very nervous.”

Later, Sen. Sanders explained why Republicans want to destroy the ACA. He said, “They want to destroy it not for what it is, but because it is the federal government doing something to protect ordinary people, and that is not what they like. These are the same guys who want to end Medicare as we know it. Convert it into a voucher program. Make massive cuts in Medicaid and other federal healthcare programs. Ultimately what they want at the end of the day is for all Americans to go into the private sector exclusively for their health care. If you don’t have any money and you can’t afford it, tough luck.”

Sanders summed up the entire Republican philosophy, “What these guys want to do is to tell the American people,’Hey you think government can do something for you? It can’t. Only the private sector can do things for you, and you don’t even have to come to vote because government is irrelevant to your lives. That’s what this whole thing is about ideologically.”

Yes…Govt is BAD! Private companies that rip you off…GOOD! RWNJ mantra

      November 18, 2025 at 9:05 am

Well, Sanders hit the nail on the head. I’m actually thinking it would be good if he ran for president and spoke like this. Not that I would vote for him or he has any chance, but it would give him some air time and somebody needs to say these things in a public forum.

Supposedly some people are concerned about the “monopoly” the service providers might have.

Yeah, and blighted defaced unusable pay phones is a better option?

Good morning TOD! Was away running agility trials and celebrating my birthday, but managed to at least read TOD once a day. Thanks so much to Chips and NW for the oustanding coverage of PBO’s time in AU. So sad that so many in the US cannot appreciate what he brings to us while the rest of the world would love to have him.

Reading the articles on how HRC will “expand” the map made me laugh out loud. Already they are taking the “Obama Coalition” for granted and looking beyond. I suspect her advocates will be in for a big surprise when the primaries roll around. Anyone who automatically thinks she brings the same message to the table that PBO did during his campaign wasn’t paying attention. Another year of this attitude may well drive many from that coalition to another insurgent candidate. I simply cannot imagine going back a generation for a president after all these years watching PBO in action.

Hope everyone has a great week. I’m so hoping for a deal with the nuclear talks.

      November 18, 2025 at 9:30 am

Firefox, if I missed your birthday, I’m sorry. Hope you had a terrific one. You’re so right about the fantasists who think Hillary will just scoop up the Obama coalition. They are in for a seriously big shock. Last week we went to a holiday bizarre that happened to take place in the same arena as dog agility trials and I have to tell you the din was just unbearable. How do you keep your sanity with all the dogs barking at once. My head was aching so much we had to leave. Hope you have very good earplugs

      • 69 japa21
        November 18, 2025 at 9:46 am

Hillary will have a difficult time bringing all the members of the PBO coalition to the table. If she doesn’t use the President (assuming she wins the nomination) she will have significant problems. I would vote for her in the general, but not the primary. I think the only potential candidate that can have the best chance of reviving the coalition is Biden. And I know he wouldn’t run from PBO like Gore ran away from Bill.

But whoever the Dem candidate is, they better make damn sure that POTUS is campaigning for them. If they slight him even a bit, the AA vote will definitely be lower (although those that vote will vote for her) and the same for the Latino and possible Asian voters as well.

        • 70 hopefruit2
          November 18, 2025 at 9:59 am

The truth is that AA’s have been the most reliable voting Dem block - regardless of the candidate’s race, and LONG before Obama came on the scene. PBO’s candidacy only increased the AA vote marginally. It actually increased the Asian vote by a far greater proportion than it did the AA vote. But you NEVER hear this fact being mentioned in the MSM.

If the Dem candidate for 2016 wants to win, they will have to run on PBO’s record. They should NOT allow the Republicans and media to define PBO’s record as a “failure” or PBO as “unpopular” like they did this midterm. They should NOT play into the GOP/MSM’s bullshit “race” politics by turning a campaign about sound sensible policies to strengthen the middle-class and improve people’s quality of living into a toxic sludge of endless pundiotry about which race stands to benefit more, etc.

HRC and her people are way to arrogant and (to some extent bigoted) to take this advice, and they will use the same failed strategy of 2014 midterm and LOSE.

          • 71 japa21
            November 18, 2025 at 10:12 am

Yes, the AA demographic has been the most reliable voting bloc, and yes, PBO increased the turnout and got a little higher percent, though not my a large margin.
And I think HRC can count on close to the same percent of the AA vote. The question is how the AA demographic would react if she either ignored PBO or actually ran away from or against some of his accomplishments or made it clear she didn’t want him campaigning for her.

Would they come out in the same numbers or would a fair percentage of those who would normally vote just not go to the polls.

            • 72 nospin
              November 18, 2025 at 1:26 pm

I absolutely will not vote for HRC. Won’t happen. I would vote for down ticket dems but I would not select Clinton.

Luckily there are plenty of dems who are worthy of carrying the mantle and it won’t be an issue.

          • 73 debz
            November 18, 2025 at 10:13 am

I am probably the only person who believes this, but the “unpopular President” meme, had Clinton written all over it. It went along with the “Clinton Democrat” message and Hillary distancing herself. I never believed this was coming from the gop.

            • 74 hopefruit2
              November 18, 2025 at 10:17 am

Trust me debz - you have lots of company in that belief - including myself. I saw way too much polling comparing PBO unfavorably with either Bill or Hillary in the months leading up to the midterms for that to not have been the case.

They tried this experiment, and were testing the theory that HRC could run a similar campaign and win in Dem primary in 2016. Then it would a choice between GOP and GOP-lite with no real progressive on the ballot. Remember, many of these so-called Dems would be just fine with a GOP presidency. They just don’t want a genuinely progressive Democrat in there.

                November 18, 2025 at 10:22 am

Add to that, the latest that Hillary will put together her own coalition, basically ignoring everyone who voted for POTUS. She is still fighting the 2008 primary.

I refuse to vote for HRC. Won’t happen. She would make a lousy candidate and an even worse President. She does not represent my interest and is no different from the GOP.

The assumption that any old candidate can expect the same support from AAs is not true.

Just to make clear, even if POTUS were to stump for Hillary, I would still refuse to vote for her and I would encourage as many people to do the same. Hillary reminds me of that woman who ran against Turtle. When someone tells you who they are ..believe them.

Among the AA DEMS who voted in KY - 96% of AA women voted for Grimes. Another 92% of AA women and 86% AA men voted for Wendy Davis in TX. At the end of the day, AA’s will vote a for a weak Dem than a GOPer.

Having said that, I don’t think HRC will be the 2016 DEM nominee, because there will be STRONGER Dems in the primary - Dems who are actually closer to progressive/liberal policy ideals. Just as AA’s voted for PBO because he was the stronger candidate, so too, they will vote for a strongest Dem candidate in the primary - and HRC won’t be it.
