Another glorious post, thank you Chips!

Love the Burma retrospective, although when I saw the young woman holding a Santa doll with the sign “Mr. Obama we  U — you are the legend hero of our world” I thought: look at her snugly-fitted blouse — couldn’t wear *that* to Thanksgiving dinner, LOL.

And how in the world is that photo of the policemen/crowds so clear? When I attempt a photo from a car window, I either get reflection or blur. @PeteSouza is simply amazing!

GM all from brisk Chicago. I love this cold, it’s invigorating and also makes the warmth of beign indoors all the more enjoyable.

Saw that yesterday, all 50 states had at least one location with subfreezing temperaturs, including FL and Hawaii. I have never seen that happen before.

My thoughts go out to all the folks in upstate NY. Yes, they get lots of snow, but this type of event is horrible. 5 dead. Who knows how much of a blow economically. Was glad to hear about the woman’s college basketball team being rescued after being stranded for almost 24 hours in a bus.

Recall seeing (last year?) that all 48 mainland states had below freezing temps (during polar vortex?) — but it’s not even Thanksgiving yet!

Has to be some sort of (climate change) record.

But FIRST and FOREMOST it is about MILLIONS of undocumented seniors, who have worked and paid US taxes for decades, with children and grandchildren who are US citizens, who now won’t be sent back to a country they haven’t seen in 30-50 years. To a country where most of these seniors would be unable to find employment. Thank you President Obama!

      ICYMI,

@smartypants60 links to LAT opinion piece by Diane Guerrero, actress in Orange Is the New Black.

She pens a remembrance of what it was like to be a 14-year-old US citizen and finding that her home was empty — her parents and older brother had been arrested, and then were deported to Colombia.

Just like our Founding Fathers envisioned for this country (not).

Do I sense a wee bit of spine stiffening in the Democrats? Hope so!

Noticed that Elizabeth Warren was chairing the Senate when the vote ended on the KXL yesterday. I thought I saw a wee bit of a grin on her face.

Jason Easley has a piece in Politicsusa on the “Hell No Caucus” of liberal Democrats in the Senate…..you can guess the members so far: Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Jeff Merkley, Sheldon Whitehouse…..add Sherrod Brown, Barbara Boxer………anyway, he said that Reid no longer has to protect blue-dog Democrats from red states, as they were defeated, so now the Democrats can move ahead. I’m sure McCaskill, Tester, Manchin and Heitkamp won’t be party to that, but I think now they will find themselves in the minority in the Democratic caucus. This could get very interesting.
They say they won’t be the total obstructionists Republicans were, but they plan to protect Democratic, liberal causes, and not allow destruction. The minority has power, as we have seen, and Harry Reid knows how to use the Senate rules, and the others are quick learners.

See also @NancyPelosi’s choice for @ChairmanDCCC (posted last night).

Check out @repbenraylujan twitter timeline to see his commitment to progressive policies.

He’s a shot in the arm for Dems, a vigorous, young Dem whose father was an ironworker, so he’s no limousine liberal. His grandfather was a sheepherder (akin to PBO’s grandfather being a goarherder) and was a powerhouse in NM state politics:

      http://www.abqjournal.com/156658/news/lujan-hailed-as-savvy-statesman-family-man.html

“In the Legislature, [the elder] Lujan sponsored bills to cap property tax increases and increase the minimum wage. He was instrumental in the passage of a 2004 measure to remove the sales tax from food. He was a strong backer of organized labor and veterans.”

You know, I have a bachelor’s degree. I have a master’s degree. I’m not an unintelligent man. You’d think that if you’d arranged for coverage so that you could stay home and recuperate from a nasty cold/fever, you’d do just that, and not call the night before and say “Oh, I feel better, I’ll be in in the morning.”

    That’s what you would think.

My middle class Chicago neighborhood is full of immigrants. They make up my community, they are my friends. The “American Dream” to them is starting their own business or finding a decent job and owning a decent home. They care deeply about the education of their children. They want access to affordable, comprehensive health care.

Let’s be clear: the GOP does NOT own the concept of starting a business. These immigrants cherish progressive values and a government’s place in “giving a hand up, not a hand out.”
