Director Mike Nichols has passed away. Some of his artistic achievements:

    The Graduate
    Angels in America
    Silkwood
    Catch-22
    Who’s’ Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

    Rest in Peace.

Good morning, As is typical when the president is going to do something important, the NBC/WSJ has a poll out saying 48% of people don’t want the president to issue an executive order on immigration.Their game is getting so old.

      November 20, 2025 at 7:54 am

Morning, Diane. The media has become so obvious, they’re comical at this point. Wonder if they polled people before every other president issued an EO. Somehow I think not.

MSM desperate to keep their politic jobs.

They should be ignored because they’re irrelevant and should be out pounding the pavement in search of an actual productive job.

Did the Republicans pay any attention to the polls when they show that 90% of Americans want some form of gun reform, back ground check. How about minimum wage increase? NBC/WSJ is a right wing poll, you might as well say NBC/FOX.By the way sometimes you do things cause it is the right thing to do, I am sure most of Americans would not have supported the civil right’s act, voting right’s, how many would have supported allowing blacks to go to whites school? How many would have supported blacks and whites being able to marry? As I said sometimes you do things because it is the right.

So apparently Jim Webb announced his formation of an exploratory committee to run for president in 2016 with a very funky video. Funky as in, UGH. I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve never been impressed with him and I think he has ZERO chance of gaining any traction.

Meta, I don’t see how he could ever win a primary. I would never vote for him and I don’t think he’s remotely capable of winning the support of the Obama coalition.

Just what we don’t need. A Corporate Dem with a giant ego.

In other and better news Bill deBlasio announced supportive immigration measures the day after PBO made it clear his EO would be this week. On Jan 1 the new NYC municipal ID card will begin its rollout. It is noteworthy because not only will it make life easier for undocumented NYers it offers benefits so that ALL citizens will be tempted to appy for this ID. The idea is that no stigma will attach!!!

Mayor deBlasio met with Valerie jarret in the WH yesterday. Privately.

Today will be a great day, as in two-fer, BOGOF, heh.

As you know, Los Angeles is nothing if not an immigrant paradise. So it’s no surprise that immigration has long been headline news here. Here’s one of @latimes’ (many) home page headlines this morning:

The rope-a-dope strategy of #POTUSunleashed has at last awakened our moribund MSM, at lease here in LA. Let’s see if MSM’s pack-mentality picks up on the points raised in this article.

“Republican leaders are increasingly concerned that if Obama follows through, the anti-immigrant fervor in their party will rise to an unappealing crescendo and the rank-and-file’s desire to confront the president will overtake other party priorities.”

    and…

“Some Republican lawmakers want to approve only a series of short-term spending bills, so they can revisit the issue every few months and maintain some leverage over the White House.”

    and…

“The president’s expected announcement Thursday leaves Republican leaders with little time to contain the fallout before the Dec. 11 deadline to approve new funding to keep the government operating.”

    Please proceed, GOP

Also, I hope Tom Wolf pays heed — the stories from Philadelphia public schools, the birthplace of American democracy — have been dismal for all the years Corbett was Governor.

Love that our tech/community colleges are reaping the benefits of having the 1% pay their fair share to enjoy the bounty of this country.

Comcast alone should gladly contribute to the well-being of one of this country’s most vast and beautiful states:

Sales Tax is like our GST - proportionally it hits the poor - much more than the rich - RW governments use it to keep the wealthy happy.

Indeed - PBO’s goal was intended to leave these fools scratching their heads after the midterms wondering “wh’appened?!?!?” He has pretty much erased their smug euphoria from the morning after the election. Now, on an almost daily basis, is giving them something to talk (angrily) about….Their heads are spinning while he’s doing the work for the American people…

I really don’t want Bill Cosby’s bullshit to suck up the energy from PBO’s Immigration announcement tonight and rally tomorrow. I know the MSM would very much want that to happen. These damn networks would prefer to spend the whole day talking about Cosby rather than airing our President’s speech.

Cosby’s crap has been going on for 30 years - ain’t nothing new, and he deserves whatever punishment there is for that. But this is not a priority in the grand scheme of important news in the mainstream and urgent issues of the country needing to be addressed.

    • 84 Dudette
      November 20, 2025 at 9:54 am

Our media will prioritize the violent or salacious over news that actually improves people’s lives every single time. This is what for-profit news has wrought. It’s not a public service to inform the citizenry anymore; it just another way to make money for the oligarchs.

Look at the charts in this article:

    http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2014/11/immigration-shutdown-worst-republican-idea-ever.html

The Republican Party has had some bad ideas, but it has never come up with a political tactic as obviously stupid as shutting down the federal government to protest President Obama’s immigration policies. It is almost a masterpiece of self-sabotage, harnessing the party’s most self-destructive short-term political maneuver to its most dangerous long-term demographic liability. It is the sharks-with-laser-beams of political maneuvers.

Incredibly, in the short time since the midterms, the prospect of a shutdown has progressed from unthinkable to probable enough that Republicans are apparently wracking their brains to come up with an alternative. Politico earnestly reports:

Well, they could — I dunno, just spitballing here — try maybe not shutting down the government. It’s just crazy enough to work.

I am absolutely sick of the heartlessness of some people.

Got a response to the Depew NY tweet above (which was a joke, since NO ONE likes to shovel snow) — the areas that get abundant snow are rewarded by their glorious summers, incredibly long nights and twilights which basically said that Californians are all gonna die b/c no water.

We’re all at Mother Natures’ fury, and must respect her. But to wish 38 million Americans a slow death from thirst is uncalled for.

    And then there’s this:
