            November 20, 2025 at 8:55 pm

Was I? That’s downright cheeky of me as I have missed so many of them! Maybe it’s relative to how much access one has, and whether one gets to listen to an entire address?! :)

Maybe it was one for which you were in the ‘live’ audience. As for access, however, we here in TODvillage always have access (even after the ‘live’ delivery) given the superb work of our outstanding reporters. JER, CC and NerdyW do an awesome job of covering this Admin’s major appearances before, during, and after - “¡Muchísimas gracias, ladies!”

I know!! This was a pragmatic speech. He wove our history with personal story and scripture. There was a lot of emotion in his words and an intensity to his expression that gave it an urgency.

        • 57 vcprezofan2
          November 20, 2025 at 9:00 pm

O, I’m not disputing your ‘best speech’ label, MomS. Let’s face it, I think we’d all be hard-pressed to agree on ONE Pres O’s ‘best speech’!!! Every topic PBO addresses in this way is important - to the health, progress, safety, etc. etc of the nation, and he always bring all his knowledge, wisdom and resources, etc to each. It doesn’t get any better than that IMO!

When people can listen directly to him, they realize that there is a world of difference between the real man and how he is portrayed. A world of difference between what his real actions and the way the GOP/media portrays those actions.

  72. 132 japa21
    November 20, 2025 at 8:34 pm

I look back at this speech, and I will wait to read a transcript, but it seemed to me he had three tasks:

To outline why reform was needed
To counter conservative arguments, specially those that say he doesn’t have the power
and thirdly, which we sometimes miss, to counter arguments from the left that he didn’t do enough.

He did a spectacular job with all three.

With the first, he not only talked about why, but also the benefits of doing so. He brought the humanitarian, moral aspect of it, plus the dollars and cents art of it to the soulless who only think money.

He countered every conservative argument, including the whole concept of amnesty.

And he pointed out exactly what the limits of his powers are and that although we might like to see more done, those extra changes can only be done through legislation. For example, he couldn’t really talk about a pathway to citizenship, because that would be done through Congress. But he does have the power to halt deportation if certain circumstances exist and requirements are met.

Does that mean we won’t hear screams from both sides? Of course not. But he was not only talking to those who disagree but also to those of us who do agree and he basically said, here are your arguments, use them when you hear the crap coming out.

    Well done, Mr. President.

PS, his presentation was superb, low key, non-dramatic, but when he went to the emotional core, you could tell he meant it from the heart.

Ha Ha! but even, though I wish we could have him for another term, he’s been, like, a super-president, so, as much as I would like him to be President in perpetuity, he will definitely deserve a rest!

Does POTUS do things without thinking them through? Maybe.
But Meta, isn’t it at least possible that the outcome of the midterms is not unwelcome to the WH?
Again, all the candidates Clintonland pushed so hard for Lost.

Still, they will try to run on improving on PBO’s faulty moves: fixing this and that.

Had exactly the same reaction, hf2.

That portion of his speech will be viewed a billion times before the end of this decade. No exaggeration.

he went straight to the heart of the matter- the instinctive fear of strangers. by reminding us that we are all immigrants, once strangers, and our neighbors and friends are all here due to immigration in their family line, he’s making us look in the mirror. unsettling and powerful!

I do know what you mean, HF. We have all felt something of being a stranger at some point in our lives.

The GOP will pass their immigration bill after their bill to “replace” Obamacare, which will be followed by the unicorn cloning bill.

The scripture he quoted about strangers went straight to my heart. I also thought of Chuck Todd’s book “The Stranger” That scripture choice was not accidental. We are all strangers, and those that yell the loudest about immigrants were strangers at one time too. That segment is haunting, and I don’t think will leave people soon.

He is certainly the supreme thinker and speaker of our time. I am so glad to be alive in this time!

I can assure you that the Clintonistas are having as big a froth session as their fellow GOP #KOCHSTERS right about now.

Saw this tweet and responded to it before President Obama’s historic speech ….

I intend to paint #KleptocratsForClinton on any mention of #ReadyForHillary and other such bull shit, henceforth.

I’ve tried everything and cannot access the speech. Doesn’t play here or on You Tube or White House. Very frustrating. Thanks all for the summaries, although I would love to see it.

jackiegrumbacher, I’m where I can’t access anything on YouTube, so I hunted around and was able to find Mighty PBO’s magnificent speech on C-Span.org . The video was a little bit fuzzy, but the audio, his voice and spirit and power and heart came through crystal clear and you could see his expression just fine. Like looking through a window during the rain. Might be tears of gratitude pride and joy. Hope you can find it soon. Just in case this helps: http://www.c-span.org/video/?322856-2/president-obama-address-immigration

No, we are traveling in Asia right now, and internet access can be a challenge. Some websites are blocked. Then just after I posted that message to you, the mighty Chipster emblazoned a beautiful crystal clear link to the great speech on the new post. On YouTube! and I opened it right up and it is clear, and magnificent. Because she has the magic. All good.

The custody and immigration status of a young Cuban boy, Elián González (born December 6, 2025), was at the center of a heated 2000 controversy involving the governments of Cuba and the United States, González’s father, Juan Miguel González Quintana, González’s other relatives in Miami, Florida, and in Cuba, and Miami’s Cuban American community.

González’s mother drowned in November 1999 while attempting to leave Cuba with her son and her boyfriend to get to the United States.[1][2] Th Finally found the backstory from years ago. Thanks Google & Wikipedia.
