AP: House Intel Panel Debunks Many Benghazi Theories

A two-year investigation by the Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee has found that the CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, and asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration appointees. Debunking a series of persistent allegations hinting at dark conspiracies, the investigation of the politically charged incident determined that there was no intelligence failure, no delay in sending a CIA rescue team, no missed opportunity for a military rescue, and no evidence the CIA was covertly shipping arms from Libya to Syria. In the immediate aftermath of the attack, intelligence about who carried it out and why was contradictory, the report found. That led Susan Rice, then U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, to inaccurately assert that the attack had evolved from a protest, when in fact there had been no protest. But it was intelligence analysts, not political appointees, who made the wrong call, the committee found. The report did not conclude that Rice or any other government official acted in bad faith or intentionally misled the American people.

Good Saturday afternoon TOD! Hope everyone is having a great weekend although I suspect many of us are pins and needles.

Sometime this last week, someone posted a blog post to the effect; Minnesota to Wisconsin:”I Want a Divorce”. Does anyone know where I can find it? I have both WI and MN roots, and really enjoyed it. Intended to share it and bookmark it but forget and now I have no idea where to find it again. Thanks in advance for the help!

Excellent article by Jonathan Chait, well worth reading:

Immediately after the election, when John Boehner asked Obama to hold off on unilateral action, reporters asked if he would promise to bring an immigration bill to the House floor. He refused…..

….Michael Gerson, the Bush-era speechwriter and an advocate of bipartisan legislation, warns that Obama is “uniting conservatives — from the Obama-obsessed to reasonable institutionalists — in fervent opposition.” Actually, just the opposite is occurring. …

….The emotional momentum in the Republican Party now falls to its most furious, deranged voices. ….

….After years of legislative muddle, he was able to detach himself completely from Congress and articulate his own values. His remarks, met with rapt attention in immigrant communities, continued his rhetorical tradition of expanding the American family, accurately presenting himself (and, by extension, his party) as an ally to marginalized Americans. Speaking with evident passion, the president deemed the children of undocumented immigrants “as American as Malia or Sasha.” He cited scripture: “We shall not oppress a stranger, for we know the heart of a stranger — we were strangers once, too.” He drew an emotional bond between immigrant communities and the Democratic Party’s ideal of compassion and tolerance. That bond will be his announcement’s most enduring legacy.

      November 22, 2025 at 4:58 pm

Excellent article by Mr. Chait. Other than underplaying the political courage it took for PBO to take action, I agree with his analysis. PBO should and will gain a special place in many immigrant communities’ heart. PBO has done a consistent job of proposing or enacting laws that directly help members of the Obama coalition. From equal pay for women, marriage equality, making college affordable for young people, making healthcare insurance affordable and accountable, saving the auto industry (and thousands of union jobs), raising the minimum wage (which will help those on the lowest rung of the American economic ladder). Taking action on the environment. And now, taking Executive Action on immigration. He has outstripped the achievements of any other President, excepting than FDR and LBJ. And let’s be real, FDR was a wealthy white man from an influential family and LBJ owed much of his political clout to the martyred JFK. Neither of them had to deal with unique obstacles that being Black in America entail. Yellow journalism existed throughout American history, but the level of outright anti-PBO/pro-GOP propaganda we are flooded in 24/7 is unparalleled in this country’s history. The 1%ers are using the media apparatus they own and control to settle a political score against PBO. These greedy, heartless devils are royally pissed that PBO dared to let their taxes go up and have spent untold billions to brainwash the American people into sharing their hatred of our President. They are using their old “tools” of stoking racial anxiety and hatred among lower and middleclass Whites, playing them like chumps and tricking them into either giving up or voting against their own economic interests. As I have said before, the level the MSM is going to mainstream racist thought against AA’s is not a coincidence. Rather, it is MSM/GOP doing the bidding of owner-class of this country, who have always used racism against Black people to keep White folks agitated, controllable and oblivious to what the 1%ers are doing to the country. Keep Americans divided, fighting over crumbs, while they laugh all the way to the bank.

      • 58 arapaho415
        November 22, 2025 at 5:52 pm

        As usual, very astute analysis.

It’s become abundantly clear that since #PBOunplugged was unleashed on Nov 5 that the MSM has no qualms about stoking Race Wars and Obama-fear regardless of the consequences to this nation.

        Just from today’s TOD:

. HF2 posted @TheFix’s hurling blame at President Obama, regardless of what the Grand Jury in St. Louis does.

It amazes me how much cleaning up, ‘small’ and ‘large’ this president has been doing in addition to his ‘regular everyday work’! At the end of his term there will be lots of little corners that have been swept for the first time, and many actual people who will feel so much more at-ease as Americans because some major (national) pain or injustice in their family tree has been addressed in some small way.

SERIOUSLY suggesting that you take some time and watch this video segment from ‘Democracy Now’. It’s part 2 of an interview with Bryan Stevenson (America’s possible Mandela?), of whom I had never previously heard; Taiping brought him to my/our attention on the previous thread. In this portion of his interview (starting at about 15:00) he discusses #Ferguson in a way that I’d like you all to hear. The entire Part 2 is about 30 mins AND I recommend that you watch it all.

For people who have not seen the interview with Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, on Democracy Now (Parts I and II) please view it. He puts Ferguson in the context of the history of racial inequality and injustice in this country, the failure to address the ongoing trauma of racism and demonization of people of color. ……//

here’s a nice story about the president’s step-grandmother, who was recently honored at the u.n. for her work.

‘ The United States has seen many fundraisers headlined by an Obama in recent years, but this week it won’t be the president or the first lady — it will be his step-grandmother, Sarah Obama, who is raising funds to build a school and hospital in her hometown, Kogelo, Kenya.

Obama, who runs the Mama Sarah Obama Foundation and was honored with an Education Pioneer award at the United Nations on Wednesday as part of its Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, has spent much of her life helping young people — and particularly young women — in her region get an education. ‘

i love this picture. somehow, the red roses tell the story of what is to come (that pink suit drenched in her husband’s blood) and also the joy of that moment.

The GOP is so keen to go to court whenever they disagree with PBOs actions. Funny that - it’s like they think the SCOTUS is on their side.

Presidential historian, Michael Bechloss tweeted the final paragraphs of JFK’s speech he was to give in Austin 51 years ago today. One he never gave. I don’t twitter, but if someone could follow him and post it here it would be worthwhile. The words could be said today, sadly.

Only gonna get worse, now that PBO is on record for net neutrality, i.e., against Comcast, Time Warner, etc.

Can’t wait until Comcast and TWC merge (snark).

thanks df-that’s very welcome news. i clicked through to find this, also worthwhile:

‘ Reforming immigration was always on Obama’s mind when he took office.

“It was on the big bucket list of why he was running for president,” said a White House official. “Climate, immigration and health care were problems that have eluded presidents for decades.”

“He really thought he had an opportunity to take on all three,” the official said. “It looks like he is going to make progress on all three.” ‘

      http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/20/politics/obama-immigration-bush/index.html?hpt=po_c1

btw, i love that the message here is that pbo has been working assiduously through this ‘bucket list’ when we all know he had to also end 2 messy wars, bring the economy back from the brink of disaster, and struggle against a racist, obstructionist congress the whole time. and also take down bin laden, while leading a military whose lunchrooms blast limpbough and pox ‘news’.

we are reminded of shrub’s bucket list: start a war with iraq so his friends can have the oil.

yikes I just read this article. Sadly I am not surprised. You know the saying “don’t shit where you eat”? (maybe you don’t. It’s not a very nice way to say: take care of the planet, and be mindful of future generations).

It’s just so sad to think how the earth suffers because the people in control of the company don’t care about it and sounds like they don’t give a flying fart about the people that work for them.
