AP: House Intel Panel Debunks Many Benghazi Theories
A two-year investigation by the Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee has found that the CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, and asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration appointees. Debunking a series of persistent allegations hinting at dark conspiracies, the investigation of the politically charged incident determined that there was no intelligence failure, no delay in sending a CIA rescue team, no missed opportunity for a military rescue, and no evidence the CIA was covertly shipping arms from Libya to Syria. In the immediate aftermath of the attack, intelligence about who carried it out and why was contradictory, the report found. That led Susan Rice, then U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, to inaccurately assert that the attack had evolved from a protest, when in fact there had been no protest. But it was intelligence analysts, not political appointees, who made the wrong call, the committee found. The report did not conclude that Rice or any other government official acted in bad faith or intentionally misled the American people.

An outstanding collection of tweets Nerdy, thanks a trazillion!
Hey NW, thanks for this awesome roundup of tweets.
You’re welcome.
Thanks, Chiparooo.
I suspect you’re in champagne mode right about now?
I’m on my turty-sevunt glass, Nerdy :-)
Good Saturday afternoon TOD! Hope everyone is having a great weekend although I suspect many of us are pins and needles.
Sometime this last week, someone posted a blog post to the effect; Minnesota to Wisconsin:”I Want a Divorce”. Does anyone know where I can find it? I have both WI and MN roots, and really enjoyed it. Intended to share it and bookmark it but forget and now I have no idea where to find it again. Thanks in advance for the help!
Was this it? Very cute article.

Thank you Nerdy, you intrepid reporter! :D I’m the most informed person in my household. :) (I live alone, but I keep pretty good company and rarely argue with myself, so…

Hahahahahahaha. Thanks, Paulita.

Question - Hey LB4Obama, do you know if Change.org petitioned against what is happening in Ferguson?
You know, Nospin, I am not sure but anyone can start a petition. If you go to the web site they list all the current ones and instruct you how to start your own.
Anyone that has 19 kids in the 21st century should just go away and hide their dumb ignorance. A one family war on our planet.

They go all around the country during election season pimping for the most extreme tea billies running for office. They were on the stage with that McDaniel idiot the night he lost his primary in Mississippi. Sign the petition on Change.org if you can.

A huge congratulations Nancy!!!!
Yes, you must be partly terrified - but you will do just fine;

Congratulations, Nancy! Your article was great. I”m so glad that your well deserved writing was highlighted in the Wasington Monthly

Ah yes, LL, thanks for reminding me ;)
Excellent article by Jonathan Chait, well worth reading:
Immediately after the election, when John Boehner asked Obama to hold off on unilateral action, reporters asked if he would promise to bring an immigration bill to the House floor. He refused…..
….Michael Gerson, the Bush-era speechwriter and an advocate of bipartisan legislation, warns that Obama is “uniting conservatives — from the Obama-obsessed to reasonable institutionalists — in fervent opposition.” Actually, just the opposite is occurring. …
….The emotional momentum in the Republican Party now falls to its most furious, deranged voices. ….
….After years of legislative muddle, he was able to detach himself completely from Congress and articulate his own values. His remarks, met with rapt attention in immigrant communities, continued his rhetorical tradition of expanding the American family, accurately presenting himself (and, by extension, his party) as an ally to marginalized Americans. Speaking with evident passion, the president deemed the children of undocumented immigrants “as American as Malia or Sasha.” He cited scripture: “We shall not oppress a stranger, for we know the heart of a stranger — we were strangers once, too.” He drew an emotional bond between immigrant communities and the Democratic Party’s ideal of compassion and tolerance. That bond will be his announcement’s most enduring legacy.
Michael Gerson from day one you know the right wing conservatives have been united against Barack Obama
Excellent article by Mr. Chait. Other than underplaying the political courage it took for PBO to take action, I agree with his analysis. PBO should and will gain a special place in many immigrant communities’ heart. PBO has done a consistent job of proposing or enacting laws that directly help members of the Obama coalition. From equal pay for women, marriage equality, making college affordable for young people, making healthcare insurance affordable and accountable, saving the auto industry (and thousands of union jobs), raising the minimum wage (which will help those on the lowest rung of the American economic ladder). Taking action on the environment. And now, taking Executive Action on immigration. He has outstripped the achievements of any other President, excepting than FDR and LBJ. And let’s be real, FDR was a wealthy white man from an influential family and LBJ owed much of his political clout to the martyred JFK. Neither of them had to deal with unique obstacles that being Black in America entail. Yellow journalism existed throughout American history, but the level of outright anti-PBO/pro-GOP propaganda we are flooded in 24/7 is unparalleled in this country’s history. The 1%ers are using the media apparatus they own and control to settle a political score against PBO. These greedy, heartless devils are royally pissed that PBO dared to let their taxes go up and have spent untold billions to brainwash the American people into sharing their hatred of our President. They are using their old “tools” of stoking racial anxiety and hatred among lower and middleclass Whites, playing them like chumps and tricking them into either giving up or voting against their own economic interests. As I have said before, the level the MSM is going to mainstream racist thought against AA’s is not a coincidence. Rather, it is MSM/GOP doing the bidding of owner-class of this country, who have always used racism against Black people to keep White folks agitated, controllable and oblivious to what the 1%ers are doing to the country. Keep Americans divided, fighting over crumbs, while they laugh all the way to the bank.
As usual, very astute analysis.
It’s become abundantly clear that since #PBOunplugged was unleashed on Nov 5 that the MSM has no qualms about stoking Race Wars and Obama-fear regardless of the consequences to this nation.
Just from today’s TOD:
. HF2 posted @TheFix’s hurling blame at President Obama, regardless of what the Grand Jury in St. Louis does.
. Crickets from MSM about #Benghazi!!!
. And don’t forget cricket about #Solyndra!!!, a mere $5bn back to the US Treasury.
Eric several of your thoughts here are echoed in the Bryan Stevenson-DemocracyNow! interview mentioned later in this very post. If you haven’t watched it yet, I recommend it to you.
So, I got followed by a Japanese chap whose blurb translates roughly to this: “I have to tell the products that are selling now of “daily necessities, household goods, stationery”. Contents always updating!”
Bravo to the local stations.
Hope I can tune in to this ceremony. :)
I hope I will be able to see this also ceremony awards too.
When I read about this award recently I was moved to tears.
During the 2008 campaign PBO and HRC made presentations to AIPAC and PBO called Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner heros.
Honoring them in this way is so fitting and another way PBO’s words get made real. (Unlike most campaign blather)
It amazes me how much cleaning up, ‘small’ and ‘large’ this president has been doing in addition to his ‘regular everyday work’! At the end of his term there will be lots of little corners that have been swept for the first time, and many actual people who will feel so much more at-ease as Americans because some major (national) pain or injustice in their family tree has been addressed in some small way.
Exactly VC.
Hello, Hopefruit (whom I have to look twice to recognize on twitter). I confess I got so used to your previous avatar that now I sometimes pass you, then have to do a double-take.

Am I right that msn.com is part of msnbc/nbc?? I’ve always thought so. I’ve yet to see a leading headline there about President Obama that isn’t trashy and dishonest.. including today. Their newest headline, looming under “Latest News” is “Is Obama’s Legacy Fading Fast”? written/submitted by something/someone called : Tribune News Service. I didn’t read the story, I never give these headlines hits. But I admit I’m sickened by this trash.
Hello all.
This is so sick. Few Republicans seem to have moved into the 20th century far less this one:
Right wing conservatism hasn’t changed. The only difference today is that the far right like the John Birch Society have fully taken over the republican party.
Reminds me that Bob Dylan song (don’t remember which one) that talked about John Birchers under every chair…
That’s what I thought were RWNJs (before I knew the phrase) back in the 1960s.
RIGHT WINGERS HAVE GRADUALLY BECOME INCREASINGLY EXTREME AND DANGEROUS…THE BUNCH CHALLENGING PBO WAS BIRTHED FROM HELL!!!!!! ONE OF THE WORST TED CRUZ…INVENTED DARKNESS!
Daily PSA ….
#BackBarack
I see that the grand jury in St. Louis has not come to a decision and have adjourned for the weekend. That is a sign of some small hope that they may indict, or that some on the jury are wanting to do the right thing.
Bill I thought that I heard that the jury asked to see a piece of evidence on Friday but cant find that information again. I was delighted when I heard that because it suggested that they are thinking…… I am praying with every fiber of my being that the jury will be guided by their higher selves and see the truth.
I think it was Vicki, here at TOD.
She’s got contacts in the Clayton/Ferguson MO area…
I’m popping in out of nowhere to ask for help. Anyone near Encino, Ca? I’ve got an 81 year old mom, 47 year old sister and 12 year old nephew who are stranded. Any of the L.A. folks around?
sorry, lynn, i’m very far away and have no contacts in that area. hope you’ve found help for the family!
Thanks, susanne. It would be a bit of a stretch, considering your island location. No worries. Enjoy the day.
Why are they stranded?
The Valley has pretty good bus service to the Metrolink light rail service. Or is Metrolink too expensive (fares are not cheap)?
Where are they headed?
It’s ok, arapaho. Thanks for your concern. The generosity of the folks in Ca. us amazing! A couple stopped and they are on their way. Not much I could do for them from 3000 miles away except rely on the kindness of strangers.
That’s an amazing story.
So hard to know who to trust, but bless the couple who helped your family. Glad to hear that someone helped your Mom — something that we want for Moms everywhere.
Good news all around!
Mom has major health issues and they haven’t been in Ca. very long, but they loooooove it. Kindness is California! Thanks again my mutually vertically challenged friend.
;) Let’s stick together!
How wonderful that they love CA.
If your Mom likes gardening, this is the busy season for planting Spring bulbs and cool-season vegetables — while we witness on the Internet areas of the country who will have to wait until April/May for the same activities.
I’m a gardener, my mama, not so much. I’m just glad the lovely people of California have tried to make my family welcome.
By the way, I’m one of those folks that has to wait until May or June to get plants in the ground, but we have awesome maple syrup!!
Thanks again for your concern.
Hi my dear Lynn,
Chips has my email and if you email her I give permission to contact me if you need help with family in SoCal. I am in Pasadena which is a short drive to Encino. I am glad your family got help but feel free to email me as a fellow TOD’er. I have met Tally who is also a regular here.
You are fabulous, jojo! I don’t have e-mail, but just your generous consideration helps more than you can imagine.
SERIOUSLY suggesting that you take some time and watch this video segment from ‘Democracy Now’. It’s part 2 of an interview with Bryan Stevenson (America’s possible Mandela?), of whom I had never previously heard; Taiping brought him to my/our attention on the previous thread. In this portion of his interview (starting at about 15:00) he discusses #Ferguson in a way that I’d like you all to hear. The entire Part 2 is about 30 mins AND I recommend that you watch it all.
http://www.democracynow.org/blog/2014/11/20/part_2_bryan_stevenson_on_executions
O, and I’m bringing over the 1st part of Taiping’s recommendation which includes the link to Part 1. Please watch …. It is so very pertinent to #Ferguson. (Her comment was on the Rise and Shine link…..)
http://www.democracynow.org/2014/11/20/just_mercy_bryan_stevenson_on_ferguson
For people who have not seen the interview with Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, on Democracy Now (Parts I and II) please view it. He puts Ferguson in the context of the history of racial inequality and injustice in this country, the failure to address the ongoing trauma of racism and demonization of people of color. ……//
thanks vc and taiping. will do.
:) It will be well worth your time, Susanne - definitely provides ‘food for thought’.
just got done with this first part,. tweeted and am now watching part 2. really interesting VC thanks to Taiping and you for posting this over to this thread as well.
Happy Saturday, a4a!
Pleased you agreed with Taiping and I that this is info worth viewing. Think how much further forward we could be in unity if MSM would, even if only periodically, share background info/history that enlightens.
agreed VC and part two was just as engrossing as part 1. tweeted that as well.
:)
Thanks for bringing the link over. His TED talk is also worth listening to. He is so eloquent in talking about the crisis of mass incarceration, demonization of POC as “Other”, and challenging us to change. We are the change we seek.
Hi Taiping, thanks again for bringing Mr. Stevenson to my attention. Do you have the TED link handy, or do I have to go look it up? ;) [Searching for anything on google always takes me for- ev-er, but I will search if I have to. ]
Here’s the link to the TED talk.

wow. thanks for sharing this. I’d never heard of this man before today.

right? i just had to share :)
i was shocked last week to see that a regular (smallish) bottle of molasses was selling for $4.59 at the grocery store, though. that’s just crazy! most gingerbread recipes call for half the bottle or more, but this one just wants a quarter cup.
susanne, I just noticed your comment from looking at my blog’s stats. Thanks so much, you’re my best agent!
If you love ginger, you’ll like this recipe. Easy and very spicy!
here’s a nice story about the president’s step-grandmother, who was recently honored at the u.n. for her work.
‘ The United States has seen many fundraisers headlined by an Obama in recent years, but this week it won’t be the president or the first lady — it will be his step-grandmother, Sarah Obama, who is raising funds to build a school and hospital in her hometown, Kogelo, Kenya.
Obama, who runs the Mama Sarah Obama Foundation and was honored with an Education Pioneer award at the United Nations on Wednesday as part of its Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, has spent much of her life helping young people — and particularly young women — in her region get an education. ‘

The GOP is so keen to go to court whenever they disagree with PBOs actions. Funny that - it’s like they think the SCOTUS is on their side.
The Dream will Never Die…….We’ll always Remember.
Presidential historian, Michael Bechloss tweeted the final paragraphs of JFK’s speech he was to give in Austin 51 years ago today. One he never gave. I don’t twitter, but if someone could follow him and post it here it would be worthwhile. The words could be said today, sadly.
Texas has much to be proud of in its Democratic party…
Heartbreaking.
Only gonna get worse, now that PBO is on record for net neutrality, i.e., against Comcast, Time Warner, etc.
Can’t wait until Comcast and TWC merge (snark).

thanks df-that’s very welcome news. i clicked through to find this, also worthwhile:
‘ Reforming immigration was always on Obama’s mind when he took office.
“It was on the big bucket list of why he was running for president,” said a White House official. “Climate, immigration and health care were problems that have eluded presidents for decades.”
“He really thought he had an opportunity to take on all three,” the official said. “It looks like he is going to make progress on all three.” ‘

btw, i love that the message here is that pbo has been working assiduously through this ‘bucket list’ when we all know he had to also end 2 messy wars, bring the economy back from the brink of disaster, and struggle against a racist, obstructionist congress the whole time. and also take down bin laden, while leading a military whose lunchrooms blast limpbough and pox ‘news’.
we are reminded of shrub’s bucket list: start a war with iraq so his friends can have the oil.
yikes I just read this article. Sadly I am not surprised. You know the saying “don’t shit where you eat”? (maybe you don’t. It’s not a very nice way to say: take care of the planet, and be mindful of future generations).
It’s just so sad to think how the earth suffers because the people in control of the company don’t care about it and sounds like they don’t give a flying fart about the people that work for them.
