I am torn by the fact that this President must wash away, deal with, correct another Bush/Cheney’s chaos. Now, POTUS must answer questions, apologizes to other nations for having used their territories for torture behind their backs.

He has been cleaning the mess left by an incompetent President and a sinister man from day 1, and most of the time, without help from members of his own party (except for Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and members of his cabinet save a few selfish men).

    May God guide Barack Obama.

I think God has been guiding Barack Obama since the day he was born. I comfort myself knowing that HE is the one cleaning up Bush’s mess, because he is totally sincere in his words and actions. He’s “one of us.” President Obama answers questions truthfully and has the credibility to apologize to other nations, as he sees fit.

Bush/Cheney and the other dawgs should not speak one word in public from this point on, because nothing they say is valid or welcome. Wish we could exile all of them to a very lonely island, where - I imagine - their minds exist already, for all intents and purposes, in the dark of night.

FIL is in surgery. They’re cleaning out the wound, and then inserting a “wound vac”, which should keep it on a permanent drain. Surgery will take about 90 minutes.

Ok, to all you non-Angelinos/basketball fans, let me tell you how fucking big a deal this is. Kobe is of Michael Jordan’s dictum: “republicans buy shoes too.” That he’s taking a stand is indicative of how fed up people are.

Still, as BWD said, one, just one, white athlete doing the same would be nice.

I LIVED and LOVED every moment of those years; it brought such joy to the city and quite frankly to the world. In spite of the “Jordan Rules” and his “republicans buy shoes too” and all the negative since then about his game the fact that he has done NOTHING constructive since he left the basketball court is beyond comprehension. It’s soul crushing to know that MJ is such a turd.

The Intercept’s Dan Froomkin says the report shows that many of the reporters covering the CIA story weren’t misled, they were willing participants in a deception.

“Many of the same news organisations you are trusting today to accurately inform you about the torture report were either naive or knowing dupes in a CIA misinformation campaign orchestrated by top CIA officials, that included leaks of information that was amazingly enough both classified and inaccurate at the same time,” he writes.

George Stephanopoulos interviewed that police character who killed Michael Brown several days ago and they ran that pathetic excuse of an interview on an endless loop. And they referred to the killing as just a “shooting”, without mentioning the fact that the victim had died from that shooting. Now, George Stephanopoulos is hosting a series on race this week. They don’t even see how wrong they are - it shows an inherent hypocrisy that is unbelievable.

US Congressional leaders have reached an agreement on a $1.1tn (£701.6bn) spending bill ahead of a looming Thursday evening deadline.

A consensus would prevent a government shutdown and fund the federal government until September 2015.

The bill was agreed by congressional leaders and is expected to be passed by Congress this week.

The package must be approved before a spending deadline on Thursday.

The bill is expected to include funding requested by Mr Obama to fight the spread of Ebola in West Africa.

It gets me so upset that there isn’t any way Bush and Cheney are going to be tried and imprisoned for the actions that brought a permanent stain to every American living in this country. When we travel abroad, we will carry this ugly recent chapter with us; others will rightly judge us for the torture committed with our tax dollars; in our name.

In his statement POTUS said that these actions were “contrary to our values”. What he doesn’t say - I’m sure quite purposely - is that this torture, that went on for years, was also contrary to our laws, including international laws, namely the Geneva Conventions and its treaties. If he did say that then I believe the only course of action would be to proceed with prosecution of all involved including elected officials. I’m just holding it in my heart thinking that POTUS would give anything to be able to prosecute them but also believes that ultimately it would be too politically divisive for this country at this time. At least these truths are now out for all to see and that in sullying the nation it will also sullies the false presidency of the GWB. History will be the judge and GWB you will be remembered as the worst president in the history of this country.

LL, that sounds like positive news. Will keep the positive thoughts coming toward all of you.

All this info about the CIA today reminds me of an interview with Axelrod I heard a few months into PBO’s first term. He said that they (the election committee and PBO) thought they had all the info about the state of the country and the world before the election. They were using that to make plans. THEN……the Wednesday morning after the election, they got the REAL info! It scared them to death. They said…..can we declare this election null and let the other guy have it? Their pre-election info had been so diluted, they actually were not prepared for what hit them Wednesday morning. So……now PBO has to clean up another GWB/Cheney disaster…..although, this one can’t be cleaned up in short order. I think the international bodies may have something to say about this. Pressure is growing for criminal indictment of Bush administration officials and CIA operatives and officials…….this story is not over.

I have to give Dianne Feinstein kudos for carrying this through for so many years, and for presenting such a solid work in the Senate today. This was not easy, but she had to do it now. Otherwise after the new session begins, it would have been swept under the rug and disappeared…..like the black holes for rendition.

UN and rights groups call for US officials involved in what a Senate report calls brutal CIA interrogations of al-Qaeda suspects to be prosecuted.

UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Counter-Terrorism Ben Emmerson said that senior officials from the administration of George W Bush who planned and sanctioned crimes must be prosecuted, as well as CIA and US government officials responsible for torture such as waterboarding.

“As a matter of international law, the US is legally obliged to bring those responsible to justice,” Mr Emmerson said in a statement made from Geneva.

“The US attorney general is under a legal duty to bring criminal charges against those responsible.”

Human Rights Watch executive director Kenneth Roth said that the CIA’s actions were criminal “and can never be justified”.

“Unless this important truth-telling process leads to prosecution of officials, torture will remain a ‘policy option’ for future presidents,” he said.

As I’ve attempted to summarize in one terse tweet, #TribunalTimeUSA & #TruthAndReconciliation must happen if America is ever to be anything but hypocritical when it claims to be ‘exceptional.’

The crimes of the GWB Administration - illegal war & torture - are symptoms of a kleptocratic, white racist system built on genocide of Native Americans and enslavement of Africans and their progeny.

What we did in Iran in the 50s, Cuba and Vietnam in the 60s-70s, and numerous other brutal incidents are all manifestations of that kleptocratic system.

At the same time, billions of good people have believed in the ‘Promise of America’ and have sacrificed, in many cases their lives, to sustain and expand that promise.

We are now in the season of near instant connectivity among almost every human on the planet.

We have the capacity to reveal the truth on the most trivial to the most profound events.

We must leverage that connectivity to achieve a full and comprehensive accounting of, and remedy for the crimes against humanity manifested in the centuries of executions of people of color, and atrocities like GWB’s war on Iraq and torture regime.

      Yes We Can
