Yup, we are in serious need of TWO (!1!1!) ‘Wildcard’ selections after Pete Souza released those stupendous 2014 photos today. Every single one of them could have been included here, they’re sublime, but we’ll go with these.
****
Wildcard 1

(1) Wait, before we start Pete Souza’s 2014 selection, there’s this one from Doug Mills

(2) The President walks to Air Force One at Naypuitaw International Airport in Burma for departure en route to Yangon. (Photo by Pete Souza)

(3) Pete Souza: “A portrait of the President as he listened during a meeting with staff in the Rose Garden. The meeting was originally scheduled in the Oval Office but the President moved it outside because the weather was so pleasant.”

(4) Pete Souza: “Following the outcry over the shooting of Michael Brown by a policeman in Ferguson, Missouri, the President invited young civil rights leaders to a meeting in the Oval Office. Many of them had protested in Ferguson. A 30-minute scheduled meeting last more than an hour. As the meeting broke up, the President continued the conversation for a few minutes and I then managed to frame the bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. in the foreground.”

(5) Pete Souza: “The President talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin after a lunch with other foreign leaders to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France. I’m sure they were talking about a subject matter other than D-Day.”

(6) Pete Souza: “The President sits for a 3D portrait being produced by the Smithsonian Institution. There were so many cameras and strobe lights flashing but the end result was kind of cool. See the video at here.”

(7)
(8) Pete Souza: “The First Lady and the President hug Native American youth following a meeting with them at the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Reservation in Cannon Ball, North Dakota. The Obama’s were so moved by this meeting that they arranged for these youth members to visit them at the White House later in the year. A photograph from that visit also appears in this gallery.”

(9) Pete Souza: “Lawrence Jackson captured the First Lady backstage watching the President deliver remarks at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 44th Annual Legislative Conference Phoenix Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.”

(10) Pete Souza: “The President, First Lady, and daughter Malia view a portrait of Abraham Lincoln while visiting the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C.”
****
Wildcard 2

(1) The President lifts the daughter of a departing staff member in the Oval Office. (Photo by Pete Souza)

(2) Pete Souza: This is from the annual White House Science Fair. The kids from Girl Scout Troop 2612 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, convinced the President to wear a tiara with them for their group photo. The girls had exhibited a Lego flood proof bridge project.

(3) Pete Souza: “The President and his daughters Malia and Sasha look at ‘Mac’ the turkey in the East Room prior to the annual National Thanksgiving Turkey pardon ceremony at the White House.”

(4) Pete Souza: “Aides laugh as the President swats a fly that was invading his space in the Oval Office.”

(5) The President shares a quiet moment with his daughter Sasha during a father and daughter hike at Great Falls, Virginia. (Photo by Pete Souza)

(6) Pete Souza: “The First Lady is definitely a hugger. Chuck Kennedy captured this moment of her hug with someone in the audience following her remarks in support of the Reach Higher initiative in Atlanta, Georgia.”

(7) Pete Souza: “‘Don’t make rabbit ears’, the President said to a group of students before taking a photo with them. Which of course some of them couldn’t resist doing. I especially love the girl with her arm wrapped around the President’s arm. The students were from an elementary school at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.”

(8) Pete Souza: “The First Lady and I both spotted the President standing under the mistletoe and she moved in to grab a kiss from him following a dinner for Combatant Commanders and military leadership at Blair House in Washington, D.C.”

(9) The President mimics a middle-school student overcome with emotion at meeting him during an ‘Hour of Code’ event to honor Computer Science Education Week at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. (Photo by Pete Souza)

(10) Pete Souza: “Lawrence Jackson captured the President busting out in laughter as he and the First Lady recorded a holiday video message in the Map Room of the White House.”

As previously noted …
… no hiding it …
Yes, I Voted :)
Bob!!!!!!!!
Hi there, Chips!! Really like the “Wild Card” surprise. Some cool pics, for sure. Thank you
And we probably could have had, oh, 1000 more Bob!!
Yep!!! :)
Mr. Bobfr,
Thank you for bringing this over.
I love this tweet so much.
We must expose these vipers, grab them by their tails and get rid of them for good.
I am sick and tired of terrorists inside this country hiding behind white hoods, blue uniforms, black robes, pulpits, labor unions.
Duke, bring out your list for the whole world to see the poison this country has been spewing under the name of justice for all.
It’s so long overdue…..
I dare him!(cowards love a dare)
Could not agree with you more, LDS!! Thank you.
LOL!! Priceless
Bob, you took what I said in my last line of my second post and turned it into a tweet Don’t know if you had read what I had written, but it doesn’t matter. So glad you got that out into tweet land!
Thank you Carolyn. Am way behind reading comments (as noted below) so I hadn’t seen yours (which I’ve now read thanks to Gail).
:star:
:)
Voting now!! Yikes! Pressure is ON!!
OMG!!! Chipsticks. Do I have to pick only ONE? From a STELLAR collection of wild cards!! I’d better have another tea, this could take a while. Catching my breath could take a while…. First. World. Dilemma.
:-) It’s IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!
We should all pick all of them and crash this system!
Who’s in charge here???!!!@@@#!!!!
she says in frustration - no one can pick just ONE!!!!
 January to December was bad enough, these Wildcards have pushed you all over the edge!!!!!
GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!
I need medication just to make it through to the New Year
Its also unpossible - I cannot vote for one in the first group - there are at least 4 that have to be there!!
Love the koala tie - I thought I had lost that one - now if MightyP had voted right it would have been a done thing.
Back to wildcard 1 - Putin sure understands English - I doubt the President is talking Russian. The Rick Perry one is an absolute delight, No 3 is the portrait of this President, but if only one is allowed - I have to vote for 9 - picture perfect
Just took two more headache tablets 99ts, it’s completely unpossible. How many have we had, 140? We should probably just declare them ALL joint winners!!! :-)
8 years, 96 months - how on earth will Pete Souza produce 1 book?
PS The koala is the winner - being able to hold one of those little blighters - without an “accident” and still look Presidential - is a definite winner. Even the koala feels safe in those arms :)
Ha, exactly, when I was putting some of these months together I thought of Pete, talk of unpossible!!!
Are you going to riot if the koala doesn’t win??? :-)
:( I will never live it down, will I, 99ts! Since my November favorite was only middle-ground in the poll, the koala will have my unwavering support from yesterday on into the future! But my lifetime favorite, well, it will never change!
I thought you were the No 1 supporter of all things Australia - if I can’t depend on you I am distraught
New Years wishes MP - may all good things come your way. May a koala never pee on your parade.
Ahahahahaha! 99ts - too funny :D :D
“May a koala never pee on your parade.”
{{{{{ 99ts }}}}} So many blessings, eh? I just cannot help myself, and I AM all things Australian - I have a koala with a Santa hat in my parlor palm, and that’s pretty real!! It is that photo of PBO on the ramp to AF1, looking out over the Irrawaddy sunset in Burma, that is the one that does me in!! Every aspect of it. But, you see, I was in Burma, before the revolution, and I looked out over that sunset, after a week of meditation and touring the temples, the very same temple PBO walked barefoot. Then Burma shut it’s doors to the world, I will admit I was quite happy not to be there when the revolution broke loose!! It was as third world as anywhere I had ever been, but something very very special was in the air. Antiquity, perhaps, an ancient silence from all the prayer, meditation over the centuries. When I see PBO on those steps, I just know he is feeling that same sense of awe. Otherwise, I adore koalas, you know it, tho I didn’t get to hold one in my years DownUnda. My daughter has tho…. too cute!
Had to go with #8 because that smile on FLOTUS’ face is RESERVED only for the President, the love of her life. I love love that look.
good one Bob. These wildcards are great Chips! Souza’s Camera Magic! I voted for the Koala Bear photo (I mean really; PBO AND a Koala? Completely impossible to resist)
Thank you Alice - we breed good looking koalas in my world :)
Thank you Alice :)
Okay, Bobfr, how on this glorious earth did you vote already AND be in first place, already?? Never mind, some secrets are best left unshared. now for that tea…
Hope you’re enjoying your tea, MP :)
Finally, yes, thank you, a fine Yorkshire! Nom.
Given you like a cuppa tea, I will think about forgiving that vote
<3 Whew.
Watching a documentary on the Apollo missions. I’m filled with wonder and sadness.
I know we have many things to take care of here on earth. But as this Vox article which DF posted says, in spite of what you see on the news, human life is improving. http://www.vox.com/2014/11/24/7272929/charts-thankful
We need to get back to space. We need to get back to the moon, to Mars, to the asteroids. We need to leave our planet.
Humans are explorers. From the moment our ancestors began the journey out of Africa, we’ve explored. We are never at our most human as we are when we are discovering something never seen, never thought of.
Here’s to hoping that as war recedes, we unite as a species and spread out.
(And then? WARP DRIVE!)
“Here’s to hoping that as war recedes, we unite as a species and spread out.”
That is the only way we evolve and have any hope of sustaining our species given the finite realities of each solar system.
I have loved this, even though it has been incredibly frustrating to choose one, 1, I, uno, not but ONE picture out of the glorious offerings for each month. What an ongoing holiday gift. What a lovely reminder of what is real and true and important in these times we are living. Haters gonna hate, and malice and greed is real, but for every person who is fooled by the propaganda tsunami, many people see through it and awaken to the truth that this has ALWAYS been the case; that we have always depended on untrustworthy messengers who framed things to suit the narrative they either believed or were willing to support. The blatantness of where we are now makes me cringe and weep; but then I look up (at TOD!) and see that they are showing their own behinds, and that the more feverish and bold they are, the more people can see, the harder it is to ignore and buy the lie. I LOVE DECEMBER ON TOD! (yelling, but with excitement and delight). The many Moments essays from BT’s, and this contest, plus the usual NerdyWonka tweets, commentary and all-around genius-ness, and of course the magnificent Chipsticks at the helm, navigating this ship through the treacherous waters and sweet seas. We are richly blessed. I hope it all flows back to all of you who make this happen, multiplied.
Once again, beautifully said, Nancie.
Wonderfully stated nancie - right back at cha!
Lovely comment, Nancie!
Ah Nancie, what a completely gorgeous comment, thank you so so so so so much - hope you had a wonderful holiday, happy new year to ya!!
Oh, Chips, this is a great collection, but we have all been forcing our minds to make hard decisions on these photos and it gets harder, rather than easier. I don’t think we’ll be able to agree on a single photo of the year. Maybe we could choose categories like ‘best work’ photo; best ‘family’ photo; best ‘babies’ photo; and best ‘beauty’ photo, meaning the one that’s just a pure visual treat. Not sure this would make it easier, but it would sure make it less impossible than choosing a “single” photo.
Hi Jackie - thanks for your reply a thread or two ago (while I was sleeping). We did arrive here on the same route - and stayed for the ride - has been such a good ride. New Years wishes for you and yours.
Oh sure and even her own father wouldn’t know. Henry VIII would have been singing Hosannas while turning cartwheels if Anne Boleyn had given birth to a son and she would saved her head. This is a conspiracy brought to by people who can’t believe that women can be successful and powerful leaders.
The theory is that the young Princess E died from an accident. Her panic-stricken servants shanghaied a young local child - who looked similar to her, and was related to the Tudors to boot - to impersonate her. Unfortunately, this child was a boy. It’s known as the Bisley Legend, and is used to explain how a mere woman could rule so effectively. As for Henry, they spent little time together, so the theory goes that he wouldn’t have paid much mind. Busy man and all.
And the fact that she is almost the image of her father says nothing, and her famous temper matched his?????? Some people just will not accept that a woman can be so smart and powerful. More fools they.
carolyn, I felt your empathy and understanding in your words…”because there are those of us brought up in white privilege who honestly did not know the dailyness of the struggle and the horror that young black males and females lived with. This has been brought up in graphic form so we can no longer not see and can not deny.”
Thank you carolyn.
I’m so happy that your husband has recovered from his illness and I sincerely wish you & your family good health, love and laughter in the coming year <3
Agree with you, Gail, and thank you for bringing Carolyn’s comment and good news into this thread. I’m way behind reading prior threads.
Bob, it is truly my pleasure to bring anything to your attention :-)
You are such a good and kind man. We’re very fortunate to have you on Team TOD Bob.
Thank you Gail! :)
The koala, the pic of him making the prayer greeting in Burma, and his secret plan to be Princess of the Universe revealed are my top 3. Yes, I said 3. BOOYAH!
Greedy!1!1!!
No fair making us pick from the wildcards! They’re all spectacular! :-D
I went for 1 and 7, Dudette (7 because of the way that little girl has her arm linked in PBO’s arm #HeartMelting), and as soon as I voted, I went “nooooooooooo, I’ve changed my mind!1!1!”. This is too hard.
I had a three-way tie for both! Totally bummed I couldn’t make 3 selections.
There is an option on those polls where you can allow people vote as often as they like, but I reckoned you’d all just vote for every pic and we’d have no winner at all!!!! :-)
Oh yee of little faith! :-)
You post that comment after posting this:
“For group 1, I had 6, 4 and 2 but knew a lot votes would come for #1
For the second group, 2, 1 and 8. Dang it, I like ‘em all!!!”
I rest my case!!
Wise decision, Chips :D
Oh come on! I would’ve only picked 3 or 4! ;-)
Or 9 or 10. Huh.
Chips! Did I finally catch up with you? I’ve been trying to thank you for days for rounding out my MMM post so perfectly!
Thank you for these photos and for everything you do!
I read the Early Bird Thread with the stories about the TOD “Early Years” :-)
I found TOD via The People’s View during the Snowden BS. I was so desperately looking for SOMEONE, ANYONE who was not displaying ODS. I had long been fed up with the MSM and the pundits on MSNBC had begun their liberal circular firing squad yet again. So I was Googling desperately for alternative news sources. The People’s View had a blog roll at the time and TOD was at the top. I would check their page to see if TOD had new posts; finally I just bookmarked TOD and this became my home.
A complete pleasure MadameSoph, thank ****you**** for your outstanding contribution!!
Honored that you found your way here from the mighty TPV, even though they have some Chelsea-supporting dude writing for them
:-)
With you leading the cheater pack :D
:D :D
LOL!!!! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done that too.
For group 1, I had 6, 4 and 2 but knew a lot votes would come for #1
For the second group, 2, 1 and 8. Dang it, I like ’em all!!!
Your struggles are cracking me up
Did the attraction for #6 lie in the fact it looks sci-fi-ish?
Hiya Chipsticks! I guess I missed out on lots of voting in the past several days. :( I was with family and then took a fun trip to New Orleans with a friend and was so busy I didn’t have time but to read a few posts now and then. Am back now and ready for the New Year!!
Jeez, these are VERY tough choices with so many amazing photos but I had to go with #6 in the first group - what a beautiful juxtaposition then and now of Lincoln and Obama in that photo huh? My brother was telling me over Christmas that he and his wife have been listening to the book on tape of Doris Kearns Goodwin’s “Team of Rivals” and he couldn’t get over how much POTUS is like Lincoln in both word and deed.
All the best wishes for health and happiness to you and the other BTs and all the TOD’ers!!!
Got in just in time to vote! This was sooooo difficult! But I chose #6 for the first group because the comparison of modern portraiture with the past, i.e, Lincoln’s above PBO’s and how PBO is the first President to be 3d photographed; I felt this was iconic for these reasons.
I chose the tiara pic for the second group because, well, that just sums up how this President knows how to connect with whoever he is with :-)
Hey MadameSoph, those were my choices for the exact same reasons! :)
:-)
BTW, my browser clears cookies every time I close it, so, technically, I could vote multiple times. But, I will have you know that, I have resisted the temptation and only voted once for each set :-)
I wish I had known that MadameSoph - I could have given the koala another 10 votes - why do I never think of such things - sigh.
For me, it was PBO in a tiara! It shows how little he cares about what people think of him and how much it matters to him that these girls asked him to do it and he thought it’d be fun. He really gets kids, young girls and women in general and that’s truly a game changer.
Bingo! That’s why I settled on that one too for my vote. It was a slightly easier choice than wildcard group 1.
I picked the 3D one as it signified to me, the innovative aspect of President Obama’s presidency. He has endorsed innovation and supported research and development; been the science nerd this country has needed for a long, long time.
For wildcard group #1, I picked the 3D photograph of PBO.
Moi aussi! :-D
Lingered there for a while, too, Betsy. The little gal to PBO’s left, with one hand on his arm and the other around his shoulder, as if they have been friends forever!! The way children just accept him and his innate goodness, speaks volumes to the man he is! Follow the Child, as Maria Montessori taught us.
I have a weakness for the photos of PBO with the littlest ones…so this is going to be a HARD decision…
P.S. In the “Rabbit Ears” photo - where he sits surrounded by a group of kids, the little girl sitting next to him (on his right) doesn’t care that he is President Obama. All she knows is that she’s sitting next to a warm, kind adult and that’s all that matters to her. It is unstaged moments like this that are just absolutely precious…
So true! :-)
Adored that too Hopefruit, the sweetest thing!
I cannot pick. I keep going over them and they are all great. I love the one that shows himm swatting a fly. He is just so darned adorable no matter what he does.
Loved that too Jackie, you’d think by now flies would know better than to mess with him!
Exactly what came to my mind when I saw Pete’s “fly swatter” photo!
I loved this video. Calm and cool as always!
Am sure many of your have been receiving email solicitations from OFA asking about ‘most important issue,’ as a prelude to asking for $$s.
I willingly donate to OFA and will continue to do so, but I think they need to reset their priorities. They need to shape and sustain a massive media effort from now until 08Nov16 (and after) to drive the message - via talk radio, TV, cable, social media, print media, etc - that the Kleptocrats (like the Kochs) are a micrometers away from owning our Federal, State and local governments. We’ll never do anything substantial about climate change, immigration reform, restoration of the middle class, equal pay for women, racism, ….. if the Kleptocrats remain on the successful path they have pursued since they propped their puppet St Ronnie in the WH. If it were not for President Obama’s extraordinary skills, they would have already achieved their goal. Period.
It’s on us.
Yes We Can
Paging a moderator :)
Found and freed!
Thank you Chips :)
Bob? You’re a boy - do you know how to re-assemble desks that you once assembled, then nuked, then forgot how you assembled it in the first place?
hahahaha…
You need Mr 99 (although I am sure Bobfr has the same skills) - and if perchance it got nuked - could have been an assembly problem in the first place. I was wondering how you managed to collapse a desk. I have a timber one - built by a carpenter for my maternal grandmother c. 1920 - it will hopefully survive a few more generations. :)
Could you email me Mr 99 so he can sort it? Or better still, send me that 1920 desk!
Actually, the miracle is that this thing stayed in one piece for so long - even during two house moves!! The connecting sticky-outty bits are so short, the whole flippin’ thing disintegrates when I lift my hand to scratch my nose. I am waaaaaay too embarrassed to tell you long I have spent on this today
Some days I think I would send him to you gratis - and then he does things like kill the spiders and chase the possums and clean the gutters - and I think I’ll keep him - sorry.
I’s definitely keeping grandmother’s desk - I’ll give it to the grandbabe when she’s old enough to realise it isn’t for cutting, pasting and painting upon. At the minute she would like to decorate it with texta colors - grandmother would not be pleased (hers and mine)
Oh gawd, this means that it hasn’t been restored to working order and CHAOS still reigns. Where’s that Engineer amk when you need him?
I am not kidding GGail: I thought I had it fixed, then I sneezed ….. and it disintegrated again.
O, hahahahahahahahaha!!!!! I’m laughing so hard, I’m coughing Chips!!!! The visual is too much!!!! *=)) rolling on the floor
Thank you for your sympathy, compassion and support, turtle face.
Oh Bob, I’m so glad you brought this topic up! Just today, I looked at the email on my phone and thought - “Oh please, go away”
We need to help them get their priorities aligned with the simple reality of America’s Kleptocracy, Gail.
Absolutely Bob!
hello Bob…
i have thought about what you propose…OFA is now issue driven…they organize around issues…i think of the tremendous work they have done around Obamacare….
when i was an organizer we organized around issues…police brutality…abandon housing…health accessibility….neighborhood schools…voter registration…i find that it is hard to organize in the abstract…
how do you propose that OFA change how they organize…
Sir Bob - I completely agree! OFA needs to reset their priorities and be infinitely more focused. And like you said, they need to be especially attuned to the Koch media campaigns and direct much of their resources in that direction….
I got a message from WordPress (?) that I was commenting too quickly and to slow down! I guess this Wildcard photo post just got me overly excited :-) O.k. better take a deep breath and go eat some lunch…
and a cuppa… ;)
I just cannot pick. Especially wildcard 2 is stumping me.. tiaras or rabbit ears?? :)
“Tiaras or rabbit ears”?
 What a choice Sherijr!! (I had the same dilemma, tossed a coin in the end!)
lol, that little girl holding POTUS’ arm in the rabbit ears photo- really tugs at me.. but I love love love the tiaras.. that has got to be a first for any President :)
:-D
Ahhhhwwwwwwww, {{{{{{{Dudette!!!!}}}}}}}
Baby Danny and his friend!
I just love that pic of PBO standing over Putin - “alpha dog laying down the rules to little doggie”
That was my same thought when I saw it!
“Atomic Dog” woof! :D
Great new pics. We seem to have seen less of those wonderful PDA’s between POTUS and FLOTUS.
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE.
1) POTUS as Princess is EPIC.
2) LOVE LOVE LOVE POTUS paying gracious respect to the Burmese.
3) LOVE every single photo ever taken of a POTUS or FLOTUS hug.
4) LOVE the epic history of the 3D portrait, a visit with Lincoln and the honoring of Lucy.
5) I absolutely cannot resist any photo where my POTUS is laughing heartily.
6) Adore every single photo where POTUS is playfully joshing with children and young adults.
7) Cherish all photos of POTUS and FLOTUS affection and love.
9) LOVE any and all photos of POTUS on the world stage where he is obviously a GRAND diplomat of the highest order.
10) I’m driving myself crazy thinking about all the phenomenal photos Pete has taken that we HAVEN’T seen.
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE.
 Meta, I would once again remind you that this was the idea of the Canadian Goose Woman, so think of her when your head is sore from the scratching!
ARGH, I should have known. But then you decided to COLLUDE!
Yeah but, I only colluded because I reckoned the Canadian Goose Woman would pick 963 photos for each month and we wouldn’t have had a result until 2026.
Hmmmm……I see. In that case, I’m eternally grateful.
What??!!!! No, No, No - do not give Chips an out - she is complicit - she ADDED more pictures!!!! The Canadian Goose woman started this, but the Irish woman multiplied it. They share equal billing at this point (humph!)
Excuse me Judge Judy, these head-wrecking polls wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the Canadian Goose Woman, my part was teeny, the Goose is Guilty.
This has exploded all over TOD. Was it done by a firecracker or a hand grenade?
And where is that Canadian Goose Woman???? Come out VC and defend yourself cuz Chips has thrown you under the bus :D
/whispering/ ‘Sokay. GxG. It’s actually much quieter under the bus.
ahahahahahahaha
WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!!! guys, ladies, gentlemen, perhaps you are merely having a bit of fun at someone’s well-meant expense, but I draw the line at Canadian goose… please. Any and every self-respecting Canadian and/or dual Canadian will stop you short and say, IT IS CANADA GOOSE, not Canadian goose. That’s all. Got it? Good. and now, as we are on the topic, it’s also Koala, NOT Koala Bear. A koala is NOT a bear, it is a marsupial. (have had a very very hard day, so if I’m hours behind and all this has been settled, I ask your forgiveness, and please refill my glass!!)) :)
And he deserves to give himself THAT and MORE! :) :)
And you have a problem with that assessment Jeffry? I happen to agree with my President!!!
I can’t re-assemble my desk and it ONLY HAS FOUR FRIGGIN’ PARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:-(
Hmm…aren’t you glad that amk isn’t here to witness this?! :)
Part of me is very relieved, Hopefruit, but the other part wonders if, possibly for the first time ever, he could offer some helpful advice? Na, maybe not.
I am on it, I am on it.
There.
“There was some speculation, in fact, that the Palestinians wanted to submit the resolution in order to present a tough public posture in the face of growing Hamas pressure, but wanted it to fail in order to avoid tensions with Washington and to leave the door open to renewed negotiations in the event that a more moderate Israeli government is elected in March. Today’s events do nothing to negate that speculation.”
And …
“In debate following the vote, U.S. ambassador Samantha Power said that America supports the principle of two states for two peoples embodied in the resolution, but that the draft submitted by Jordan addressed the needs of one side only. She said it ignored Israel’s legitimate security needs and “sets the stage for more divison, not compromise. It could very well provoke the sort of confrontation it purports to oppose.” And she complained that the resolution had been presented for a vote without giving council members any opportunity to discuss it.
In a warning to Israel, she said that the United States would continue to oppose actions that undermine peace, “whether those actions come in the form of settlement activity or unbalanced resolutions within this council.””
Full text of the resolution is at the bottom of the article cited in the tweet: http://blogs.forward.com/jj-goldberg/211846/palestinian-un-bid-fails-by-vote-was-that-the-pl/#.VKM0tEAcpA8.twitter#ixzz3NQaxiKKG
Full text of Ambassador Power’s UNSC statement via US Ambassador to Israel …
OMG! I forgot to include this in my Memorable Moments!!!
priceless….this was grounds for a new boyfriend
When PBO said “Awight”, I was dead
I can only imagine what was going thru the President’s mind…
You have so utterly failed us. :) I think everyone erased any thought of that day - the day when the Dems failed POTUS.
Ah, true Forus - but our comfort is that there’s an endless supply of ink for that executive-orders-pen :-)
Well, it wouldn’t be New Years if I didn’t post a comment about the Twilight Zone Marathon on Sci-Fi all of New Year’s Eve & New Year’s day from 9AM ET…. I will be tuned in whenever I can. One of my favorite things to do at New Years. Better than watching the ball drop at Times Square. Better than drinking/partying…Better than anything that anyone else could think of to do at New Years….
Off to set my DVR!
:) :)
I watch the Twi marathon too. I have favorites - the little girl who falls into another dimension, how to serve man, the old woman terrorized by a US spaceship landing in her attic, the beautiful girl who was banished to a place where people were “ugly” like her, the doll house with human miniatures, etc. I always find something amazing about each episode no mater how many times I watch.
Yes - this show was before it’s time. And the episodes you listed are some of my favorites as well. I have so many - too many to count! That’s why I’m addicted to my Twilight Zone marathon year after year….
The episode I remember most clearly, the characters were getting hotter and hotter as the earth had left its orbit and was getting closer to the sun. In the end, the main character woke up from that dream with a terrible fever, to learn that the earth HAD left its orbit, but was actually moving at incredible speed AWAY from the sun. She looked out the window at the blackness, dark and snow falling, and she knew. It was all over. Awesome.
I recall that episode but I don’t remember how it ended exactly. That’s why I love to watch every year :)
New post:

The photos are wonderful, I love any picture of POTUS, FLOTUS, Malia, and Sasha. POTUS the husband and father. That picture of Sasha and POTUS, love it.
Love, love, love every picture!!! Any that wins is fine with me. My favorite is the one of him sitting outside at the meeting. So thoughtful. I can’t wait for Pete’s book. He will need more than one. One for all the children, one for the foreign trips. one for the trip to Ireland, one for dealing with congress, one for his campaigns, etc. I could have a whole library.
If he would create a digital online library - I would pay for that Marilyn!
That’s a great idea. I would pay too.
I see ten rabbit ears.
Awesome Post.
Au :star: for Doc Bobfr ;)
