    “Private Mariea Sabate of The United States Park Police Horse Mounted Unit combs the countryside searching for suitable horses to join the force in Washington. She’s frequently found exceptional candidates from the Middleburg area. One of her favorites was a former racehorse donated by Middleburg’s Zohar and Lisa Ben-Dov, Pacific Blackout. “He was a prince with the heart of a lion,” she said. The dark bay was bred and foaled in Florida April 8, 2025 and his racing career included 12 starts. He won twice, was second twice and had one third-place finish, with total earnings of $29,680 before he was injured….

    …Sabate, 51, joined the mounted patrol in 1991 and rode another Ben-Dov horse, Rebel Command, on the C & O Canal until 1997. They were then selected to move to the Training Barn at Edgewater Stables in Rock Creek Park and thus, she became the first female officer at the barn and its first female instructor. “I’ve been training horses and officers ever since, “ she said. Sabate grew up in the Washington area, riding at the public stables in Rock Creek Park and said “I’d ride anything. “She knew horses would be her life. As a spectator at the Washington International Horse Show, she watched Park Police Sgt. Denis Ayres compete in the North American Police Competition, and he became her mentor. Ayres, now 82 and retired, continues to ride on weekends with Sabate along the 19 miles of trails in Rock Creek Park.

    …The Park Police mounted unit was established in 1934 and is one of the country’s oldest police equestrian units. It also includes the K-9, SWAT, Marine, aviation and motorcycle divisions. Sabate has turned down any promotion in order to remain with the mounted unit. Her meticulously schooled equines and their riders have donned riot gear to control Occupy Wall Street protesters in Mac Pherson Square and rowdy crowds at the World Bank meetings. She also patrolled the perimeter of the White House 12 hours a day for months after September 11, 2001.”

    Chelsea FC has suspended three people from attending its ground after a video appeared to show club fans stopping a black man from boarding a Paris train.

    Life banning orders will be issued if there is deemed sufficient evidence of the fans’ involvement in Tuesday’s incident, the football club said.

    Storm has made landfall and is heading south (i.e, towards Brisbane — didn’t 99 say she lives south of Brisbane?).

    From the article:

      It is not as bad as the media is wanting it to be. Bringing lots of rain - but seems to be minimal destruction. Could always change. I could do without another flood - couldn’t we all - but hopefully will not happen. Has now been downgraded to cat 3 as it comes down the coast.

        Quick way for Queensland’s new Premier to get her feet wet.

        It’s good to be prepared for the worse, but “harrowing and terrifying” are not words I’d use to encourage people to stay put, but that’s just me.

        Looks like the storm made landfall at a distance that’s further than me and Meta (i.e., LA-SF). We sometimes feel the impact of their storms, but not until a day or two later.

      We Obots deeply feel the pain and loss of Ann Dunham at such a young age, 52 — what we wouldn’t give to have her live to experience PBO’s election in 2008.

      But the way the GOP drag the Obama family to try to disguise their bigotry (e.g., birtherism, etc.) is not civilized. Ann Dunham would be free to speak her mind, in much the same way that Lillian Carter and Barbara Bush were/are allowed to do.

    Computer maker Lenovo has been forced to remove hidden adware that it was shipping on its laptops and PCs after users expressed anger.

    The adware - dubbed Superfish - was potentially compromising their security, said experts.

    The hidden software was also injecting adverts on to browsers using techniques more akin to malware, they added.

    Lenovo faces questions about why and for how long it was pre-installed on machines - and what data was collected.

    The company told the BBC in a statement: “Lenovo removed Superfish from the preloads of new consumer systems in January 2015. At the same time Superfish disabled existing Lenovo machines in the market from activating Superfish.

      Maybe someone should invent a machine that will allow Giuliani to freeze himself in the 9/11 timezone, so he can continue to live out what he seems to believe was his shining moment. It doesn’t occur to him that the families of the many first responders whose lives he ruined because of his ineptitude on that day don’t need reminding from him of that horrific day. He’s a horrible little man.

    May I interject with your indulgence that I also humbly ask for your good thoughts and prayers for my own family member again at this time, awaiting some new test results and whether or not surgery will be needed.
