Hi, Sabreen! Haven’t greeted you in a while. How *are* you?
This win was one of those fluke-y entrances, but I’ll take it as I haven’t been near the top for some time now.

The sad part, though, is that President Obama appears to be the only one who can or will do it!

I’ll take it, of course, because I’d rather hear from him than anybody else. But where are most of the other elected Democrats?

JOB, I think Joe Biden could handle a town hall with great skill. Maybe we’ll see him do a few in the next year or so, especially if he decides to run. There are also some cabinet members who would be excellent at it-Sally Jewel comes immediately to mind.

Well, of course, you are right about our Joe! I was thinking about Congress people. You are also right about some of our cabinet members. And I feel better!

“Google has created the computer equivalent of a teenager: an artificial-intelligence system that spends all of its time playing—and mastering—video games. The company introduced the new development in machine-learning technology on Wednesday, describing it as “the first significant rung of the ladder” to building intelligent AI that can figure out how to do things on its own. The research project, built by a London startup called DeepMind Technologies that Google acquired last year, exposed computers running general AI software to retro Atari games. The machines were shown 49 games on the Atari 2600, the home console beloved by all ’80s babies, and were told to play them, without any direction about how to do so…

…When the computers passed a level or racked up a high score, they were automatically rewarded with the digital equivalent of a dog treat. Google’s AI system surpassed the performance of expert humans in 29 games, and outperformed the best-known algorithmic methods for completing games in 43 instances. Some games, like Ms. Pac-Man, can’t be easily beaten with a mathematical formula. In others, like Video Pinball, the AI crushed human players with a system that was more than 20 times better than a professional human game tester….continued”

Donna dem wrote a superb comment the other day about Dems and voting…how do I capture that comment and send it to other Dems that I’m supposed to meet up with tomorrow? Can someone send it to my email or something? She said so succinctly what so many of us feel. That comment needs to be sent everywhere. HELP!! I need it:)

      February 25, 2025 at 10:06 pm

      Hi DS.

You can copy and paste my comment into a email that you can then share.

~We on the other hand have to LOVE our candidates before we can get up off our asses and go vote. We don’t have a propaganda machine pointing out to us the importance of voting so we don’t. People were willing to crawl over broken glass to vote for President Obama but 2 years later they can’t be bothered. That’s the real travesty with our electorate.”~

      *****************************
Crucial Issue….how do we address this…

I was busy at work and am just getting around to responding to Prettyfoot’s question.

I have sent solutions to DWS (who needs to be replaced) to no avail. But here are a couple of my thoughts.

First, we will probably never see in our lifetime another candidate like “Barack Obama” so stop putting all of your hopes and dreams in this one man to move people forever to the polls. For future elections you have to educate your electorate. Stop making these mid-term elections about the candidate. Instead make it about the party values. The Democratic Party brought this country so many benefits that we would never have the time to list them all. Speak about the policies that Dems have given and will continue to give our citizens and let them know how these policies affect their everyday lives.

Explain to people (because they are ignorant) how their Governor and state leaders have a direct impact on the local roads they travel, the schools their children attend, the environment, their jails, their sexual orientation, their voting rights, their Medicaid..etc. You have to break it down into real life issues in order for our electorate to understand why it is imperative that they vote in every election. Do it in the form of a PSA (Public Service Announcement) rather than those stupid TV ads tearing someone down. Contrast our policies vs theirs and if you say it over and over again it will sink in.

I know, he will have to take a page from the President’s book. Has will have to take his message to the people. Hold town hall meetings, use local press. I have sent him emails suggesting this.

Hi HZ, I hope you’re well and feeling good. We both share that love for our President as does everyone here. It breaks my heart to think of all he has to go through in the ugly, divisive cesspool that is DC, but I know he’s strong and secure in the knowledge that he’s loved by millions.

There has never been another President I followed on a daily basis. He is the truest, most idealistic and yet pragmatic, unsullied President that we have had in the 20th and 21st centuries. I think that is why so many love him the world over and why the cynical press tries to take him down. They can’t stand that he does not fawn over them and play their DC games.

    Global gluttony

We spend $340bn a year on luxury items we don’t need. Why?

    • 63 carolyn
      February 25, 2025 at 10:29 pm

Yes, amk, why do we spend so much money on STUFF! More to lug around and guard. None of those items or brands mean luxury to me. There are a couple of things I always thought would mean luxury to me: one, would be clean, ironed, fresh cotton sheets on my bed every night…..and someone else to make sure they got there. The second would be someone to do my hair every day.

What do some of you think would mean luxury to you? I doubt that people on this blog would name stuff.

      • 64 0388jojothecat
        February 25, 2025 at 10:49 pm

I think as we get older and have a garage or house full of “stuff” we don’t need much and enjoy the company of friends, going to the movies, and going out to eat. My biggest luxury which is now a necessity is getting my hair done on a regular basis. I could never go back to doing it myself. To me a luxury is something you can give up if your funds got too low. For me that would be cable, newspaper, playing lotto, trips, eating out, movies, etc.

One of the things I would like to see is a way to quit depending on people having to buy stuff in order to have a strong economy. I do not remember it always being this way. I remember a time when things were made to last instead of becoming obsolete and incompatible requiring replacement.

planned early obsolescence is the manufacturing mantra today - whether it be consumer goods, electronic goods, engineering goods, software, automobiles, fashion & clothing thingies etc.

It is probably as well that I am in a state of utter confusion at the minute - related to family issues - cause if I had time to think about it I would probably conclude that the only thing separating the USA from a return to the 18th/19th century is President Obama. And still people vote for such a lifestyle???

A clear majority of MPs from German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s centre-right bloc has backed an extension of financial help for Greece.

In a test ballot before the full vote on Friday, 311 MPs from the CDU/CSU voted in favour with 22 voting against.

The centre-left Social Democrats, junior partners in Mrs Merkel’s coalition, voted unanimously in favour.

As the dominant economic power in the EU, Germany’s approval for the bailout extension is crucial.

European leaders want to extend help for Greece until the end of June, subject to parliamentary approval.

After the ballot, CDU parliamentary leader Volker Kauder spoke of an “overwhelming majority” in favour of extending the 240bn euro (£176bn; $272bn) bailout for Greece which is currently due to run out on 28 February.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-31636212

Yup, if greeks bolt, the floodgates will open (Spain, Italy are waiting in the wings) and EU will collapse.
