I’ve been noticing a lot of journalism has been critical of the idea of Iran getting a nuclear weapon without much facts to back them up and just based off hyperbole. So far I’ve heard everything from Iran is determined to wipe Israel off the map to how Iran with nuclear capacity is the most dangerous country in the middle east.

The bottom line is that it all sounds like propaganda created by various media outlets and government officials to control the masses. Frankly I don’t really believe any of it. Iran never said that they were going to wipe Israel off the map, this was something that the former president of Iran supposedly said but it turned out he was mistranslated by the media. General Petraeus claims that Iran is the most dangerous country in the middle east based on nothing really. I mean the man has exposed himself as being not such a big genius about foreign policy as the republicans like to believe he is. It’s all bs and I’m not buying a single allegation of it.

Anyway I am done ranting. Hope everyone is having a great day and really am optimistic about Obamacare staying in place.

I agree with you, Jeff, that there are a lot of scare tactics being applied to Iran to turn it into the scary menace of the Middle East, none of which is based on fact. It seems to me that Russia, North Korea and Pakistan, all of which are borderline insane, are much great threats to the world.

Yesterday, I opined that The Obama Administration must have know what Netanyahu was doing……WSJ wrote about it. The WH must have known.

        Here you go, Idon.

Soon after the U.S. and other major powers entered negotiations last year to curtail Iran’s nuclear program, senior White House officials learned Israel was spying on the closed-door talks. The spying operation was part of a broader campaign by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to penetrate the negotiations and then help build a case against the emerging terms of the deal, current and former U.S. officials said. In addition to eavesdropping, Israel acquired information from confidential U.S. briefings, informants and diplomatic contacts in Europe, the officials said. The espionage didn’t upset the White House as much as Israel’s sharing of inside information with U.S. lawmakers and others to drain support from a high-stakes deal intended to limit Iran’s nuclear program, current and former officials said. The U.S. and Israel, longtime allies who routinely swap information on security threats, sometimes operate behind the scenes like spy-versus-spy rivals. The White House has largely tolerated Israeli snooping on U.S. policy makers—a posture Israel takes when the tables are turned.

The White House discovered the operation, in fact, when U.S. intelligence agencies spying on Israel intercepted communications among Israeli officials that carried details the U.S. believed could have come only from access to the confidential talks, officials briefed on the matter said. Mr. Netanyahu and Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer early this year saw a rapidly closing window to increase pressure on Mr. Obama before a key deadline at the end of March, Israeli officials said. Using levers of political influence unique to Israel, Messrs. Netanyahu and Dermer calculated that a lobbying campaign in Congress before an announcement was made would improve the chances of killing or reshaping any deal. They knew the intervention would damage relations with the White House, Israeli officials said, but decided that was an acceptable cost. The campaign may not have worked as well as hoped, Israeli officials now say, because it ended up alienating many congressional Democrats whose support Israel was counting on to block a deal. Obama administration officials, departing from their usual description of the unbreakable bond between the U.S. and Israel, have voiced sharp criticism of Messrs. Netanyahu and Dermer to describe how the relationship has changed.

because the media is largely biased towards Israel. It’s been true for some time now. One of the reasons that they wont show footage of the massacres that Israel has been doing towards the Palestinians. They’d like to act like it’s just a bunch of empty rubble and no body were in those buildings in the first place.

If it’s beneficial to the RW, it gets covered.

If it’s critical of the RW, it gets ignored or spun.

If it’s negative for PBO = beneficial to the RW, it gets covered.

The RW supports the war hawk Likud party and Netanyahu, so they are propped up.

Any one here ever heard of the Seven Mountains Mandate? As I read the article I will link, what I get is that a group-in this case, the Religious Right-is able to take over 1. Business 2. Government 3. Media 4. Arts & Entertainment 5. Education 6. Family 7. Religion, they will then have “dominion” over the population. The belief is that if they can get only 8% of the population behind them, they can achieve this dominion. This is one scary article. I can see that much of this is already accomplished or well on its way. Note the end of the article giving names of the folks who are a part of this movement.

Good point, GG. No, not letting anyone have dominion over me. Yet when I read this and see what the religious right does every day, it causes me to say “Better pay attention.” Every thing they do , I think they cannot possibly sink lower, then there’s the whole Bibi thing, including spying and I put NOTHING past them, at least an attempt of something like this even if they don’t succeed. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/24/ilia-calderon-discrimination_n_6933782.html#comments

Letter from An Afro Latina, an Anchor with Univision.

“I worry about the world in which I live, but I worry even more about the world in which my daughter will live.

One day, in a park, a boy tells a girl: ‘You’re ugly, you’re black’. Her response was more intelligent than we could have imagined, ‘then your heart is the color of my skin’. What grief to know that at seven years old, she had to learn to answer like that.

Once, the 5-year old daughter of the manager of a company for which I worked told me, ‘Do not touch me, you are black’. Her father immediately jumped to scold her and said: ‘I’m Sorry, kids are cruel’.

What nerve! To blame his daughter, who at that age can only repeat what she hears from the adults around her. We are full of ‘little phrases’ that have become so common, that we accept them without thinking of the consequence and the damage it can cause others.

Dr. Maya Angelou said it right: “People will forget what you do. People will forget what you say. But never forget how you made them feel. ” And it happens every day, at all times, and without us noticing.

How often does an entire family in a car, with their children, pass by an accident in which a woman is involved. The father says: ‘Of course, it had to be a woman, they don’t know how to drive’. And you, the woman by his side, do you do something to correct an attitude that discriminates against your gender?
How many times in your life have you pulled your eyes back with your fingers to make fun of Asians? Or have used a banana to make fun of blacks? Or have judged Indians by their smell? By the way, have you asked one of them what you smell like?

How many times have Hispanics discriminated Hispanics from other countries calling them ‘Indian’? (As if it was an insult, as if we all didn’t descend from indigenous communities).

But when an American somehow discriminates a Hispanic, they all come to put their chest out, to criticize, to say they are racist and demand justice.

Also, it’s grievous when someone expresses contempt for those who prefer to love someone of the same sex. Or to believe that all Muslims are terrorists, or to keep pointing to the Jews.

I worry that we live among all these comments, common in the corridors, gatherings of family, friends and work. And nobody says anything. There is a double standard.

There is a fine line, which can often be crossed, between criticism and satire, and the offense to someone who did not choose to be how he is.
My daughter is not guilty of having slanted eyes, her dark skin and curly hair. She is the product of the love between two people who decided to bring her into the world against all odds. That should be enough. Why would her physical characteristics be important?

Every day I confirm why I also have to teach her how to respond with dignity to those who want to hurt her because of what they see on the outside. Double the task. Prepare her to be an exemplary person and prepare her to confront those who are not.

I ask you: As parents, have we taken the time to talk to our children about respect and learn from differences? Have we explained, that a child with two dads or two moms, or a dad or a mom, are like them, the product of love?

Have we explained that neither weight nor color, nor abilities or disabilities, make someone a better or worse person? Have we told them to approach a child, whom all reject in school? Because it is better to be next to him, then beside those who mock him.

Have we explained that ‘little pain’ you feel in your heart, when you see someone helpless, is called compassion? And that it is a good and noble sentiment?

Let’s focus on the real difference, which is making a difference in the new generations. It is everyone’s job.

And you, how do you prefer your child’s heart? ¿Black, white or gray? Children are not born discriminating. Teach them not to discriminate.

There’s nothing undemocratic about protesting Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies
The Israeli prime minister’s decisions about West Bank Palestinians, who cannot vote, enjoy no democratic legitimacy at all.
    By Peter Beinart | Mar. 25, 2015

    • 62 Bobfr (@Our4thEstate)
      March 25, 2025 at 2:22 pm

” Everyone in the West Bank lives under Israeli control. The Israeli army – and the army of no other state – can enter any square inch of the West Bank anytime it wants and arrest anyone it wants, including officials of the Palestinian Authority, to which it generally subcontracts those functions it prefers not to perform itself. Yet the Palestinians who constitute the vast majority of people living under Israeli control in the West Bank cannot vote in Israeli elections. Only the Jewish minority can.

This means that when Benjamin Netanyahu makes decisions affecting people inside the Green Line, where everyone has the right to vote, his decisions enjoy democratic legitimacy. But when Netanyahu makes decisions affecting people in the West Bank, the vast majority of whom cannot vote because they are Palestinian, his decisions enjoy no democratic legitimacy at all. After all, if Israel really were a democracy in the West Bank, and the millions of Palestinians there could vote in Israel’s elections, Netanyahu would not be prime minister.

One might compare the democratic legitimacy of Netanyahu’s policies in the West Bank to the democratic legitimacy of a Mississippi governor in the 1950s whose segregationist policies relied on the systematic disenfranchisement of blacks. But the Israeli situation is worse. In the 1950s, Mississippi’s leaders were only disenfranchising one-third of their people. In the West Bank, Israel’s leaders are disenfranchising over 80 percent.

How, then, is it undemocratic to protest Netanyahu’s radically undemocratic decision to condemn West Bank Palestinians to permanent disenfranchisement by declaring that they can vote neither in Israel nor in a Palestinian state, whose creation he will not allow? Maybe someone who doesn’t hate democracy can explain it to me.”

Urge all of you to read it in its entirety ….

These Democrats Just Voted for a Weaselly Republican Budget Amendment on Social Security

The language of “current beneficiaries,” “gradual reforms,” “bipartisan dialogue,” and “insolvency” in his press release and his amendment text should signal his intent here. This is the language that Republicans, as well as too many Democrats, use to talk about cutting Social Security. (Remember the 2012 election?) In other words, it seems to be saying, “Obama, you should submit legislation to us to cut Social Security.” It is somewhat vague, but that message seems to be the underlying one here.

    oh dear…..

From this morning’s Dallas Morning News:

WASHINGTON — Dallas Rep. Pete Sessions claimed on the House floor today that Obamacare coverage costs federal taxpayers $5 million for each newly covered American.

He was off by a lot — nearly $5 million, in fact.

“If you just do simple multiplication, 12 million into $108 billion, we’re talking literally every single recipient would be costing this government more than $5 million per person for their insurance,” said Sessions, chairman of the House Rules Committee.

The actual math is this: $108 billion divided by 12 million equals $9,000.

    What an idiot.
