Average hourly earnings rose a tad more than expected (+0.3%). Over the past three months, they're growing at an annualized rate of 2.9%.

All told, it looks like average rates of wage growth have risen from "a bit more than 2%" to "a touch under 3%".

Two points:
1. Wage growth remains weaker than needed to hit the Fed's inflation target.
2. It does appear to be rising, and bears watching.

This is one of those months in which unemployment rose, but it's because people are coming back to the labor force, and most found jobs.

“This week, students and engineers from around the world will descend on Southern California for two days of good old-fashioned robot mayhem. A total of 25 teams will compete in the DARPA Robotics Challenge Finals, a competition to design robots that could one day help respond to a natural or man-made disaster. The competition, hosted by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the military’s R&D branch, is open to the public and takes place June 5 and 6 in Pomona, California. The winning team will take home $2 million. The runner-up and third-place teams will receive $1 million and $500,000, respectively. [See images from the DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials] In December 2013, 16 teams competed in the DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials in Florida, and 11 teams were selected to move on to the finals. In March, 14 other teams qualified to take part in the competition. The teams hail from countries around the globe, including the United States, Japan, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Germany and Italy.
For instance, there’s Team RoboSimian from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. This team’s apelike robot will use its four limbs to remain stable and avoid tipping over. This could be a boon in the competition, because the robots will not be tethered as they try to complete the various tasks. Then there’s Carnegie Mellon University’s team Tartan Rescue, whose CHIMP robot took third place in the 2013 DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials. The bot has a humanlike shape, but rolls on rubberized tracks like a tank, which helps it move over uneven terrain. From Japan’s National Institute of Industrial Science and Technology comes Team AIST-NEDO, whose HRP2+ robot boasts such abilities as walking two-legged on rough terrain, lying down and getting up, falling safely, passing through narrow passages, manipulating objects while supporting itself, and dancing in traditional Japanese style. It also looks a bit like the robot from the film “Chappie.” China’s Team Intelligent Pioneer is bringing their robot Xing Tian, named after an ancient Chinese mythical hero. The humanoid bot was originally designed to be a household aide, doing housework and taking care of children and the elderly, team members said….continued”
The competition is today and tomorrow and being live-streamed now (link in tweet & youtube below)

Hey NW, Thanks.
COS I have been meaning to catch you to tell you how stunning your granddaughter was last week going to her prom. She was just a little girl when we started this journey with President Obama 8 years ago and look at her now. I know that you and Tracy are so very proud.
Thanks Donna. You know I am here with Tracy. I had to fly here last Wednesday. She went to emergency and they told her that she had to have bypass heart surgery. She had an aortic aneurysm, and is lucky to be alive. All of this was happening while her daughter was getting ready for prom. She has awesome friends who stepped in and took over.
OMG I didn’t know!!!! I saw the pictures and assumed everything was okay. I just went to FB and saw Sasha’s message. Please, Please give her my regards. If there is anything else I can do don’t hesitate to ask.
OH, NO. COS, I’m so sorry to hear this. Please give her our very best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with you. {{{{COS}}}}
Thanks very much. She is at home and her doctor says her recovery is progressing fine. It was a real scare.
COS - Hugs to you and Tracy. So sorry to hear this - hope all goes well from this point! Take care.
Thanks Jacqueline and to all of you.
Yikes! That is a terribly scary situation. Glad it had a good outcome for Tracy. Long recovery ahead for her. Be well yourself!
Cos, I’m sorry to hear that tracy needed to have an emergency bypass heart surgery. Glad to know that the surgery went well and she is home. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
You’re welcome, COS. Sending positive thoughts to Tracy, her daughter, and you.
Fully packed post, NW! Thanks and good morning.
Mornin’, TOD.
You’re welcome, Ms. J’OB.

Who knew of all the amazing benefits being researched and developed with Spiders?
“Spider-Man would be so envious. Spiders have woven webs infused with carbon nanotubes and even graphene, raising the prospect of new materials with record-beating properties. Graphene – sheets of carbon just one atom thick – is one of the strongest artificial materials, and spider silk is one of the strongest natural ones…continued”
“..Spraying spiders with atom-thick graphene or carbon nanotubes infuses their webs with “unprecedented” super-strength — enough to catch a falling plane from the sky. Researchers at the University of Trento in Italy found that combining 300 nanometre-wide graphene particles or nanotubes with water, and spraying the solution onto arachnids, had surprising effects on their silk. Through a process that is not yet entirely clear, some of the 15 Pholcidae spiders in the study created webs that where 3.5 times as tough as the best silk known to nature — that of the giant riverine orb spider. It’s also on a par with the other toughest material known to nature — limpet teeth…continued”
God I hate tilapia, fish Fridays need to be abolished.
It doesn’t have any flavor, its so meh.
Haha The first time i was served tilapia was at a Spa. It was as if I was eating my paper napkin. Nothing since has improved my opinion of this species. And I Love most fish.
Ha! you two are so funny about the taste or lack of taste of tilapia. It is the go-to fish for our Latin, mainly Hispanic community. I think it is widely served in Mexico.
Don’t let LL hear you saying this! :)
If McConnell carries out his threat to confirm no appellate judges in the next year, that would be an extraordinary departure from prior practice. According to the Federal Judicial Center, the Senate confirmed six appeals court judges in President George W. Bush’s seventh year in office, despite the fact that the Senate was controlled by Democrats.
***********************
This is how the Powers that be keep the anti government sentiment going…by gumming up the works so that government cannot be efficient…goes back to a summary written yesterday by SmartyPants
I was stewing about this last night. McConnell is just depraved. GAH, I cannot stand those people.
WeThePeople have only ourselves to blame…we do not take our role in our democracy seriously…we continue to vote…these people into office…or by our inactivity we allow the other side to determine policy…in addition we have a complicit press that is corporate owned who have given up their sacred duty that is enshrined in the constitution
Depraved, yes.
If you read the article about Walker as well above this all you can say is Evil. Depraved. Evil. paid off. And On A Mission to do what is Impossible—-Injure POTUS.
Mitch and Scott will be remembered by history either not at all or as two useless POS.
What is the difference from what he did in Dec of 2008? He held a meeting with GOPers in the Senate to deny Pres-elect any legislative win. In 2010, Oct to be exact, he doubled down and stated publicly twice to deny Pres Obama a 2nd term. He broke every record on Filibustering. He has Never been shy of his motives. The sad thing is that knowing all his duplicity, the Media ignores the facts and frankly, Dems have failed to make McConnell the Senate Mafia Hit man he has been against USA, the Constitutional Oaths he has taken and his Obstructionism he had engineered since after the Nov 2008 election.
No difference, Nena. Loser POS.
Even more reason for citizens to vote…to prevent him from getting control…but not only did dems not vote.. those running ran from the accomplishments of this President…sigh
One of the things I hate is not being heard by the likes of McConnell or Boehner since I do not live in their state or district. They only accept emails if you are their constituent yet their work affects all of us.
indeed…that is why there has to be a strategy to address the needs and concerns of the their constituents….they need good schools…good food…jobs…etc..
OG - that’s exactly why I learned how to use twitter. You can jump over their Congressional email fire walls and tweet directly to @McConnellPress and @SpeakerBoehner.
well, the dems were warned gazillion times that this exactly is what would happen.
yes they were….mucho times
When Dems control Congress, they “negotiate deals” with GOP. When GOP is in control, they dictate.
Fantastic Post, NW. Thank You.
Hello TOD. TGIF. Breeze……. :) :) ;) , partly cloudy in MN today.
Congrats to COS and LP for their Twin Au :star: :star:
So Hastert is indeed a predictor. The DC Media knew, and covered it up. The numbers will just grow now :(
Job! Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!
OK! Thanks Pres Obama!

PBO has said that no other player can beat Curry’s shots.
Last night was thrilling. At the beginning I was disheartened by Cleveland’s size and speed, but we got the result I was hoping for.
Look at the size of Steph’s hands in this photo.
WHOA!
Not so quick, Lebron has met POTUS, he has even met FLOTUS. And the Cavs had a chance to win that game last night. I think Lebron should had driven to the basket instead of taking a fade away shot, but I think it will be a good series.
Well alright we’ve got supporters for both teams - AWESOME!
Go Warrior’s :-)
I won’t be upset if the Warriors win. I am leaning toward the Cavs, but if the Warriors win I wouldn’t be upset.
I think POTUS is impress with all the basketball players, Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Lebron, Westbrook, Walls, Kevin Garnet, name a player and I bet he knows him, his stats and all.
I’m a Warrior fan and am over the moon that they are in the finals after all these years. I also have mad respect for LaBron as a player and a person. The President is such a sports fan. He respects athletes so much. Last night’s game was so exciting.
It was so very exciting and suspenseful. I can’t wait for the next game. Last night’s crowd was the 12th man, truly rooting for their team. :D
Nerdy!! Jobs, Jobs, jobs, is good, great, greatest! Thank you. This is the info that matters and how far out into the public consciousness will it get? Who knows.
:)
Oh how the right wing haters would be trashing our POTUS and FLOTUS if they had 17 traffic infractions.
They would go all the way back to when they were Barack & Michelle to find traffic infractions - but, there’s none to be found! HA!
How can you find your footing when you’re mired in imaginary quicksand? Everything this guy says is subject to being uncovered in a lie detector test.

Trouble is inevitable, LP :-)
Anyone hear if PBO’s funeral speech will be carried tomorrow? I looked at the various TV stations on my tivo schedule and saw nothing listed. If it is to be carried what time and what station?
C-Span covered yesterday’s service, so I would check C-Span in the morning OG
WHAT HE HAS WITHSTOOD IN THIS COUNTRY…IT’S AMAZING…I PRAY FOR HIM CONSTANTLY…MAY GOD SHIELD AND PROTECT HIM AND HIS FAMILY!…YOU ARE LOVED MR. ENERGIZER…SMOKIN’ SHOES PRESIDENT!…BBL!
AAAAAAMEN Sue!
Good morning, good evening and good night, fellows.
BREAKING NEWS: The missus and I may have to have a quickie wedding. No, she’s not preggers. A change in policy may be coming and we’d have to get married quickly so that there’d be no confusion about her being on my insurance. So, we’d have the courthouse wedding, and then a big bash some time next year. Will keep you all posted.
Love this. Early congrats!
Best wishes for both of you, however you do it. We’ll all come to the big bash……..
<3 <3 <3 Rules ;)
Good Luck to you Both
Ah, fantastic news LL, congratulations!!
Awww I’m so happy for you big guy, my wife and I did the quickie thing at the court house too. My mom and by brother came with us, it was nice, afterwards he had lunch at Chili’s.
I don’t care HOW or WHY. Whatever it takes to light a fire under your ass, Let’s do this! :-)
WOOOOOO!!! YEA!!!
Well, that sounds just fine LL. You can have a big party at your convenience afterward.
wow….do you have wedding chapels..they are quick and nicer than City Hall…so niceee….we want pics…
Fanks for the idea! Looking up places now.
I got married in San Diego at the Chapel of Happiness ;) Been married for 34 years. Just sayin’ :)
34 years, very impressive, desertflower. It reminds me of a joke I heard a comedian do on either Letterman or one of those other late night shows. The guy says to Dave, you know if I killed someone 34 years ago and went to prison I would be out by now.
Somethin’ like that:) Want to know my secret? It’s because I have such a damn good sense of humor:) AND he makes me laugh…
:-D
Congratulations to the both of you, LL!
Good morning/afternoon/evening, TOD!
Congrats to you LL and to the missus! :)
WOWIE, exciting news for you, LL! I hope you have a wonderful ceremony!!
In my way of THINKING, nothing Surprising about the Job numbers…….Since 2010, the numbers have been solid…….in the last 2 yrs, due to horrible Winter, the 1st Quarters have had hits and a rejuvenation followed, afterwards.
TGIF! Its always a good friday with OUR president manning the helm. So much lying, negativity and propaganda out there, must mean OUR president is busy WINNING!
Until somebody pays him to say something differently.
But he is Fond of Marco Rubio?
Not that is Twisted.
Eek. I don’t get any of it.
This is where I had read it 1st.
Oh by the by, lets see how many TIMES the Sunday Talk-a-Ton books him or how many Times any TV or Cablers would run to Book Mr. Coburn? Hmm?
He’s definitely gonna be “shunned.”
so, how much did dumbya’s dumber brother pay him?
I think I see your point.

That’s the truth Jimmy Carter. The whole truth and that’s one reason why the right wing hate the Obamas so much, they know they are not superior to Barack and Michelle Obama..
4.9M Job Openings as of March 31st, 2015……..Choke on that Haters!
Good day TOD!
While @POTUS is at G7 ….
bbl …
Learned that the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (which handles personnel records of current and former federal employees, including retirees like moi) will start sending out email and snail mail to the 4 million affected, beginning next week.
Good to see Jared making sense. When he does this he disappears from TV.
And some of us will NEVER forget those days, and the days that followed.
I still drive by the hotel and wonder…what if?
Oh my goodness. Didn’t realize you were near the hotel. I wonder the same thing! I’m still wondering “what if?” on Al Gore, too.
And the right wing haters have already started complaining about the trip, no as they call it another vacation paid for by the tax payers. And as I remind the racists idiots that my tax dollars paid for Laura Bush and her twins to go on their many trips (vacations), my tax dollars is still paying for security of G.W. Bush, Dick Cheney, So to hell with those haters.
Trying to decide what hat to wear to LL’s wedding, this looks perfect:
Oh, I would so love that.
Get yer own hat, it’s mine.
And of course, we haven’t discussed the “loan” provided by Fifa to FAI to drop its suit over Henry’s “main de Dieu”. Which was totes not a bribe.
Not sure whether to laugh or cry. The story is actually a year old, but this is the first time the FAI and Fifa have admitted it. The biggest laugh is that the FAI chief was even being floated as a successor to Blatter when he probably has as many skeletons in his closet. Any way, I’m going to email the Premier League and ask them for compensation for all the times United were cheated out of wins over Chelsea.
Hah! Good luck with that, missy.
I think the funniest part of the FAI/Fifa scandal is that at first they said the payment was in dollars, and then they realized “OH SHIT”, and quickly said NO NO NO it was in Euros.
.
I was speechless too when I saw it - damn, I’m gonna look stunning
It is obvious that Hillary Clinton has put a lot of thought into the roll-out of her presidential campaign. And so far, she’s hitting all the right notes. With her bold speech about voting rights this week, she adds to an impressive array of issues she’s covered so far.
I agree prettyfoot, she does well when she speaks on grassroots issues. Leave all that other non-sense stuff alone.
At The WH Press Podium LIVE
Totally O/T. Let’s just say our mail handler is a part of our community. Everybody jokes with him (son down the street, granddaughter who was here for a while, great grandson, neighbors). As an aside, he’s a tall, good-looking guy in his 40s (think he had a little crush on aforementioned blonde granddaughter, he’s still asking about her). Today, I’m sitting on my front porch, see him across the street. He’s glistening from the heat and looks like he can’t wait to get back in the A/C. Innocently, I call over, “You look hot.”
He stops, swivels in my direction, smiles, and says, “Thanks!”
I LMAO and told him I just realized how that sounded, and called over, “Okay, let’s just say you look warm. And hot.” And he laughed.
I was reminded of my youngest granddaughter, now 12, who’ll be here for the summer, and her previous admonition to me: “Stop talking to strangers!”
Grandmother’s gotta be grandmother, kids!
When my kids were teenagers I totally embarrassed them when I talked to cashiers. Hey! I like talking to people. It is fun meeting new people. Having your attention focussed on texting and FB instead of those around you in real life seems weird to me.
Ha. I agree. When my grandkids get embarrassed, I tell them, “Hey, get used to it. I even speak to store mannequins.”
Usually shuts ’em up, wondering if I’d do that. Try it. :)
