    Thank you, Chips, Hopefruit, 99.

Sit down. Hold on to your hat. This is big.

Bill de Blasio, Democratic Mayor of New York City has announced that he will not be attending the Clinton rally in NYC this Saturday.
The Mayor also expressed great interest and respect for Bernie Sanders, going back to Bernie’s time as mayor of Burlington, VT.

      GM Vicki.

This is huge news; amazing to see staunch Clinton allies like deBlasio and Martin O’Malley changing course after 20+ years of loyalty.

But still plan to ignore 2016 Campaign until after Labor Day.

That is a good plan, Arapaho.
As a New Yorker that would be very difficult to do this year.
The NY media hasn’t given the Sat. rally any coverage so far but they will.

Maybe it’s one thing to be a Clinton loyalist over the years (perks and retribution for straying) and another thing to really want to see them back in the White House for another 4 - 8 years.

But if he is considering a run for the WH, and just hasn’t announced it yet, he wouldn’t endorse by going to another candidate’s support rally. Right? Hopeful sign.

Reading the newspaper this morning and saw two interesting Iowa-centric items of interest:

Here on TOD the other day, I learned about our new Poet Laureate. So it was fun to learn that he had an Iowa City connection: http://www.press-citizen.com/story/news/education/university-of-iowa/2015/06/10/juan-felipe-herrera-iowa-writers-workshop-us-poet-laureate/71027248/

I have long thought the Iowa GOP’s stupid Straw Poll needed to go, since it served no real purpose and actually made the whole state look bad. I mean, Michelle Bachmann is the “winner” – really? So, what a lovely thing to see in the headlines that they may have to scrap it this year, after all. :-) http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/caucus/2015/06/10/iowa-straw-poll-fate-revisited/71027116/

      GM muscatinegal.

Back when I was a regular @maddow viewer, she hammered home the point that the Iowa straw poll was simply a fundraiser for the GOP Iowa Party.

But the hordes of national media have to do *something* for the fat paychecks — which for the next 3 months (at least) will consist of gossip, speculation, donor dollars and speculation about gossip and donor dollars.

Officials Say Prison Worker Joyce Mitchell Planned to Be Getaway Driver
‘She thought it was love’: Prison worker charmed by escapee
    June 11, 2025

Joyce Mitchell, the New York prison worker being questioned in the escape of two murderers, was charmed by one of the inmates and planned to be their getaway driver until she got cold feet, senior government officials told NBC News.

One of the inmates, Richard Matt, established a relationship with Mitchell over a couple of months, the officials said.

“She thought it was love,” one of the officials said.

Instead of being the getaway driver, Mitchell went to the hospital and checked herself in, the officials said. As NBC News has previously reported, Mitchell checked in on Saturday, the day the inmates were reported missing, with “a case of nerves.”

What poise and grace Michelle Obama has… she carries herself like a fashion model — those in the fashion industry must be burning with jealousy.

Which, as lovepolitics2008 noted awhile ago — seething with jealousy seems to be a driving factor in MSM’s relentless pursuit to make PBO “look bad.”

MSM know they will never be the writer who connects to his audience in every situation the way that PBO does, effortlessly, every. single. day.

      //….

Frenship and Bennett are amazing places full of people (teachers, administrators, custodial staff, cafeteria staff, parents, and others) who love, care about, and go the extra mile for all students, regardless of race. As a teacher and lifelong educator, I strive to do the same. I always tell my students that once they are my student, they will always be my child. As an educator, I do teach my students about treating all people fairly and with dignity.
      …..//

Am curious to learn how she teaches her ‘students about treating all people fairly and with dignity’ - something she is still struggling with herself. Plus, she speaks angrily, directly, and specifically about ‘blacks …. and what happens when you drop out of school and have no education’, yet her apology is addressed ‘to anyone, of any race, that I have offended, I sincerely apologize’. I guess it was too much to sincerely apologize directly TO *the blacks*.

We each need to call our Congressmen and women and ask them to grant President Obama TPA. Democrats need to support their own leader on this. Please do it today. U.S. Capitol switchboard # 1-202-224-3121. Ask to be connected with your Representative.

I have welcomed interracial, inter religious marriages and diversity in general with my kids friends and spouses. My view is the more blending the less bigotry. I know historically people with blended identities have not been treated well. But I believe when the racially “pure” are in the minority the bigotry will lessen if only due to the numbers.

20 EU countries ratify Association Agreement with Ukraine

As of today, 20 European Union member states have ratified the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, according to Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration Valeriy Chaly.

The ratification process with Germany was completed on Wednesday with the transfer of the instruments of ratification in that country, he said.

Another four countries – the Czech Republic, France, Belgium and the Netherlands – have ratified the document by one of their parliament’s chambers, and preparations for the ratification are under way in the remaining EU member states, namely Austria, Greece, Italy, and Cyprus.

Chaly said he hoped that all the EU member states would ratify the Association Agreement by the end of 2015. “The political phase of the ratification is nearing completion; and Ukraine’s task is to effectively implement this Agreement,” he said.
