This takes me back to 1971, first year of marriage living near Durant, OK in Tishomingo. I was 22 but looked like 12 and had to work hard to be taken seriously as a manger of two rural family planning programs. My husband was doing equivalent service in the US Public Health Service Indian Health Service district all around SE Oklahoma. It was an eye-opener after college in Oberlin. Hope President OBama has a good visit!

I haven’t given these democratic organizations one cent this year. I told the last person who called that if all of the dems couldn’t find the courage to support PBO, they could forget about getting any money from me, and I meant it. They’re still calling, and I’m still refusing to make donations to them. I’ve been good to these organizations in the past, but I had to draw the line when some dems began to signal they’d oppose the president on the Iran nuclear deal. I will donate to individual dems who have demonstrated that they have the president’s back, but the others can forget it. I can use that money to keep working on my home improvement projects.
This is what a Democratically controlled legislature accomplished in Oregon this year. Voting matters!
A Successful Session!
The 2015 legislative session has come to a close. There is much to celebrate - and many of the successes are due to the hard work of Emerge alumnae.
To our legislators: Val Hoyle, Jennifer Williamson, Alissa Keny-Guyer, Shemia Fagan, Jessica Vega Pederson, Ann Lininger and Kathleen Taylor - we thank you for your leadership on the many pieces of legislation that will make a difference in the lives of women and Oregon families!
Here’s our Top 10 favorites:
1. Putting a ballot into the hand of every eligible Oregon voter.
2. Requiring insurance companies to cover 12-month supplies of birth control.
3. Barring domestic abusers from possessing guns.
4. Paid sick leave for most working Oregonians, a basic workplace protection.
5. More money for K-12 education and all day kindergarten for kids across the state.
6. Providing access to retirement savings plans for more Oregon families.
7. Expanding background checks to private gun sales.
8. Establishing rules to define and prohibit racial profiling.
9. Requiring manufacturers to disclose and phase out chemicals of concern in children’s products.
10. More grant aid for college-bound students.
Now that’s a job well done!

Shortly after PBO took office, Steve Benen wrote an article explaining why GOPers were so upset with the new president. Under GWB, they didn’t have to actually work. GWB told them what he wanted, and they wrote and passed the legislation, so when PBO expected them to work on issues, they were offended, and to avoid working on anything, they decided to attack everything he proposed. This helped them avoid addressing issues they knew they needed to work on. They’re always talking about “lazy individuals on welfare, getting something for nothing,” but they’re the real takers to the tune of millions in salaries and benefits for which they do nothing, billions if one counts the $24 billion they cost the economy with their Cruz-led government shutdown a few years ago. They’re the reason Congress has an approval rating of 17%—the unproductive b*st*rds.

I remember last year when the WHPC attacked PBO because they said he “shut them out of WH events.” It never crossed their feeble, entitled, minds that he had a very good reason for doing so. He had their number shortly after he took office. He knows they’re up to no good and will take everything he says/does and twist it to a point where it has no connection to what he actually said/did. I’m glad PBO smacked the hell out of Garrett for his BS filled question. My only regret is that he didn’t do it sooner.

The hard work, sacrifice in time and energy and missed days with family and friends that all of the negotiators and support personnel gave to make all of us safer is worthy of the highest praise and gratitude.
And that - exactly - is why we *should* have diplomats who know war. I fear for the time we have had enough peace that we do not know of this principle.
Note that Europe has only known a regional war since 1945. Basically *all* of my generation (50-60 yo) have never seen a war at close sight.

I remember reading about the mismanagement of individual Indian trust accounts back when President Bill Clinton was in office and how long it had been going on even before Clinton. It was NOT until PBO that this got resolved. When I hear people parrot that PBO is not a leader or he’s not a good manager of this country I just want to scream. The media will never report on just how smart and good he is.
One thing that is very important to most people but especially the Native Americans is being truthful and keeping your word. Our government has been so lacking in this area. I am hoping that the Native American young people will not get discouraged and preserver long after the end of the Obama administration. Graduate from high school, get college degrees, help bring progress to your reservations and run for office become house representatives, senators and maybe even President.
I have always believed that in order to resolve a problem/issue, one has to first care about it and how it impacts the individuals involved. PBO tends to think that all Americans are worthy of having their problems addressed, which is why many in the GOP/TP hate him. When he took the oath of office, he took it with the intent of serving all Americans, which is why I voted for him twice. Many presidents in the past have made promises and after taking office, forgot about fulfilling them, but PBO is a man of conscience and takes promises he makes seriously. He fulfills them even though it may piss off others, so I don’t buy the BS that he doesn’t care about all of us, or that he’s not a man of his word. These are things that members of the MSM say to create controversy and to make money for their bosses and shareholders.
