    Good morning, Chips and TODville.

I have to catch up on PBO’s trip to Ethiopia. Thank you for the press conference video. I’m guessing the jackals were again ill-behaved. UGH.

And yet, our journalists aren’t enlightened enough to realize that if they were citizens in Ethiopia and asked the questions in such disrespectful manner in which they do to PBO, that they would be in jail or worst.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses Church in Australia failed to report more than 1,000 alleged child sex abusers to the police, an inquiry has heard.

Instead, the commission says, the Church itself handled all the cases - some of which date to the 1950s.

One elder told the hearing that notes relating to abuse claims were destroyed so they would not be discovered.

Australia began a national inquiry into child sexual abuse in 2013, after claims of abuse in the Catholic Church.

Members of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, whose remit includes religious groups, NGOs and state-care providers, say more than 4,000 victims have come forward.

The commission has heard allegations of abuse taking place within the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Jewish community, as well as schools and children’s homes.

The Royal Commission has been an eye opener into every group that ever had anything to do with raising/teaching children. Cannot imagine it was all very different in other countries.

    GM TODville.

Posted this last night, but no one commented. :(

Looks like John Kerry will (again) be busy today:

    From the article:

“Executives from 13 major U.S. corporations will announce Monday at least $140 billion in new investments to decrease their carbon footprints as part of a White House initiative to recruit private commitments ahead of a United Nations climate-change summit later this year in Paris.

Companies including Apple Inc., Berkshire Hathaway Energy Co., and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. will join Secretary of State John Kerry and top administration officials at the White House for the announcement. In addition to pledges to cut emissions, provide financing to environmentally-focused companies, and reduce water consumption, the companies have said they will produce 1,600 megawatts of new, renewable energy — enough to power nearly 1.3 million homes. The White House said in a statement that it expects to announce a second round of similar pledges later this fall from additional companies.”

      This is big news.
Meanwhile in our demented GOP/AIPAC alliance the warmongers are launching full scale assaults on peace and diplomacy.

A full page ad in NY Times had the 4 NY/NJ senators photos and a letter from its sponsor, Michael Steinhardt, who proudly states he was DLC chairman for 10 years.

He is urging Booker, Schumer, Menendez, and Giillibrand to vote against and oppose the Iran Deal.

DLC—you remember them, right? Clinton, Bayh, D. Feinstein, Harold Ford, etc, etc, etc. DINOS. Corporatists. War enthusiasts. YUCK.

VP Biden—-end of summer can’t come too soon for us.

Hear-hear! It was his (lack of) sincerity piece that bothered me. I was generally uneasy with the way Booker liked to (unconsciously?) tout whatever ‘good deed’ he did, and then he turned me off completely when he sided with Romney over PBO re that business whose name I’ve forgotten. I see him somewhat like I do HRC - opportunistic and self-serving under the guise of helping others.

    Morning:)

    https://www.americanprogressaction.org/issues/general/report/2015/07/27/118103/the-middle-class-at-risk/

    The Middle Class at Risk
The Dangerous Gap Between the Rhetoric and Reality of Republican Prescriptions for the Economy

the new rhetoric by Republicans has not been matched with new policy ideas. Instead of offering ideas that will improve economic security, boost incomes, and support working- and middle-class families, Republicans are simply repackaging the old top-down solutions that favor the wealthy few at the expense of working families. It’s old wine in new bottles. Although leading Republicans are talking more about opportunity and mobility, there is a mountain of evidence that many of their proposed policies would hurt average families.
This report details how—despite its new rhetorical shift—the GOP continues to propose policies that would undercut economic security for working- and middle-class families and increase their anxiety. More specifically, it examines the following ways Republicans policies would hurt American families:

The perfect take away from this piece…and the perfect explanation of the GOP’s true self.

Giovanni Gentile, the “philosopher of fascism” and ghostwriter for Mussolini, said of the definition of fascism in the Encyclopedia of Italiana: “Fascism should more appropriately be called corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power.” This definition may very well fit the GOP ideology: a kind of corporate fascism, where large corporations have the ultimate power; where the politicians spew a hateful, intolerant ideology based on “traditional” values, on a platform funded by corporate interests, elected by the people to serve those very corporate interests; and deny environmental degradation because it would be unprofitable for the funders to do anything about it, using the anti-intellectual hostility to convince the people that it is nothing more than a left-wing conspiracy.

      Classic alcoholic.
My grandfather on my mother’s side went through a lot as the son of a sharecropper in Georgia and he became an alcoholic in his later years because the terror of his life never left him - so we saw first hand what alcohol can do to a persons emotional state and Boehner exhibits a lot of what I saw in my grandfather. I have no idea what Boehner’s life was/is like…but I recognize his symptoms.
