Well, this is a fairly recent phenomenon. There’s always been a fire season but nothing like this. The current combination of severe drought, high winds and lightening strikes have conspired to create this situation. Very scary.
So, what are people doing - waiting to be told to evacuate, leaving the area on their own, or what? Off the top of my head I can’t think how I’d deal with this. I’d probably have been one of the last ones to leave my car as I tried to figure out where to go.

But if it was me, I’d probably have to leave just to be able to get away from the fire and smoke. But you’re right, what about people who have no place to go? Wanted to chime in on VPB, who in my mind, is the only person alive on this planet who can seriously consider stepping into the Oval Office as POTUS #45. It is only human that he and his family would be grieving still, and forever, with the passing of a beloved son, Beau. Joseph Robinette Biden III is a gifted, serious, accomplished man. His exemplary work in the US Senate for decades has given him an overview of our history few manage to attain; in particular, I feel, as he did not hesitate to step up to enlist in the armed forces when he was needed, and then to choose a life of public service, to which he dedicated himself without fail, despite personal tragedy. Time after time, he has risen, taken on willingly what was necessary, and grown stronger and kinder as a human being throughout. If he chooses to run for the WH, who in their right mind can challenge him? Who can ‘dig up dirt’ where there is none? Who can consider any attempt to belittle or demean a man of such character? PBO could not have chosen a more perfect VP, a man of wisdom, humor, vast experience in government, a man well-known for his loyalty, his sacrifice, and his ability to include even the least among us. JRBIII comes from true American roots, he has worked hard all his life, he has given much, and has been rewarded by the Goodness of the Universe, and his God, with love and strength. As for MP, she is #ridinwithbiden, and that is all there is to it. If, and I pray, when, JRBIII makes his thoughtfully chosen announcement, I deem the elections will be essentially over, all that will ensue will be a charade, and never mind calling it an “Obama Third Term”, that is just a shit-stirring slogan with no substance, no reality, no weight. PBO will undoubtedly be more than willing to walk the Path with VPB, as they have done for so many years, together, as Brothers, as an advisor, if that is what is most helpful. I listened to the Vermonters (my friends are fierce PBO fans & want Joe to run) and then I methodically made my case for why I’d never vote for Sanders. No hyperbole, just facts and reality. And then we talked about Joe. By the end of the meal the Vermonters were ready to sign up to volunteer for Joe. Heh.

Meta, how do you Californians deal with this? Do you have a suitcase packed at all times, and a back up home to evacuate to? That video of the fire crossing the highway and abandoned cars on fire scared the daylights out of me. I couldn’t imagine where I’d go if I’d been on that highway!
Well, this is a fairly recent phenomenon. There’s always been a fire season but nothing like this. The current combination of severe drought, high winds and lightening strikes have conspired to create this situation. Very scary.
So, what are people doing - waiting to be told to evacuate, leaving the area on their own, or what? Off the top of my head I can’t think how I’d deal with this. I’d probably have been one of the last ones to leave my car as I tried to figure out where to go.
I don’t really know how it’s being handled. I think people are probably waiting for the notice to evacuate. But if it was me, I’d probably have to leave just to be able to get away from the fire and smoke. But you’re right, what about people who have no place to go? I know they try to open some shelter spaces but there’s not enough space.
Are *you* in a space/location unlikely to be threatened by a wildfire?

Wanted to chime in on VPB, who in my mind, is the only person alive on this planet who can seriously consider stepping into the Oval Office as POTUS #45. It is only human that he and his family would be grieving still, and forever, with the passing of a beloved son, Beau. Joseph Robinette Biden III is a gifted, serious, accomplished man. His exemplary work in the US Senate for decades has given him an overview of our history few manage to attain; in particular, I feel, as he did not hesitate to step up to enlist in the armed forces when he was needed, and then to choose a life of public service, to which he dedicated himself without fail, despite personal tragedy. Time after time, he has risen, taken on willingly what was necessary, and grown stronger and kinder as a human being throughout. If he chooses to run for the WH, who in their right mind can challenge him? Who can ‘dig up dirt’ where there is none? Who can consider any attempt to belittle or demean a man of such character? PBO could not have chosen a more perfect VP, a man of wisdom, humor, vast experience in government, a man well-known for his loyalty, his sacrifice, and his ability to include even the least among us. JRBIII comes from true American roots, he has worked hard all his life, he has given much, and has been rewarded by the Goodness of the Universe, and his God, with love and strength. As for MP, she is #ridinwithbiden, and that is all there is to it. If, and I pray, when, JRBIII makes his thoughtfully chosen announcement, I deem the elections will be essentially over, all that will ensue will be a charade, and never mind calling it an “Obama Third Term”, that is just a shit-stirring slogan with no substance, no reality, no weight. PBO will undoubtedly be more than willing to walk the Path with VPB, as they have done for so many years, together, as Brothers, as an advisor, if that is what is most helpful. And JRBIII will have all of us to walk beside him, and behind him. I think I should end my chime now…. :) <3

I know that each one of us is just a single voice in the democratic process;
however, I am suggesting that may be as we communicate with the elected officials on the #IranDeal, we also consider adding another piece of communication for our preferred candidate;
I have seen many here express their support for BDF VP Biden. Since we know he is probably in the process of deciding whether to run or not, the this would be the optimum time to send a brief not to him about how we feel about his pending decision;
Some here have brilliant reason of WHY he should run - so please let him and those closest to him know;
it would also be useful to let him know what you are will to do, to support his candidacy, if he chooses to run;

If Schumer votes against the Iran Deal, he damn well better stay away from the convention next summer. If he goes against the president of the United States in favor of the prime minister of Israel there should be NO place for him at the Democratic convention. PBO is the leader of the Dem party so it is his convention. Schumer can go to Israel for a convention with Bibi rather than Philly. And this should crush any chance he has of being the next minority leader.

I’ve talked about this before but when I met Beau Biden a year ago there was nothing on this earth more clear to me than that he absolutely loved and adored his father - a very deep, deep, deep and uncommon bonding, love and admiration. So that Beau’s close advisor is joining the Draft Biden movement feels very, very important to me. This is like Beau putting his imprimatur on it, IMHO.
