“Exclusive: Rafsanjani on future of Iran-US ties, Saudi Arabia
TEHRAN — In an exclusive interview with Al-Monitor, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, one of Iran’s most powerful politicians, spoke about the future of relations with the United States. He also hit back at domestic critics of Iran’s nuclear deal with six world powers, saying they are “making a mistake.” While acknowledging that Washington seems to want to “distance itself from the past,” Rafsanjani said that that approach needs to be proven in action and that the implementation of the deal would be a major step. The interview in his Tehran office on July 28 is the first Rafsanjani has conducted with a foreign media outlet since the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was struck.”
Iran's Rafsanjani interview by @FaghihiRohollah (first w/Western media in a long time):
http://t.co/ZgIFZSh7xV
“Al-Monitor: In your view, what will Iran’s relations with Saudi Arabia and the region be like after the deal?
Rafsanjani: We do not inherently have any issues with Saudi Arabia or other Arab countries, because they are Islamic, and we see cooperation with them as a priority in our constitution. Even though they provided support for Saddam during Iraq’s imposed war on Iran, our differences were very quickly resolved once they responded to Iran’s post-war policy of detente and stepped forward to cooperate. The [1987] killing [of Iranian pilgrims] in Mecca was among the disputes, and it was resolved by the order of the Imam [Khomeini] because the essence of the matter [of our relations] is not such that we [inherently] have conflict.”
On previous thread we found out, thank you, Meta, that the DNC has announced its dates and locations for 6 debates starting in Nevada on Oct. 13th hosted by CNN.
I am glad this info has been revealed.
The draconian measures to limit Democratic contenders from talking to one another are quite distressing. If I am getting this correct—Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders couldn’t have a conversation on stage at the National Urban league event because that is forbidden.
That is why ( I guess?) MO’M left the stage abruptly.
The DNC is saying “My way or the highway” in an apparent attempt to limit public exposure of any candidate not named Clinton.
No forums by the League of Women Voters with various candidates airing their views are allowed. On threat of expulsion from the 6 DNC events.
Would a National Party that had confidence in their Chosen One behave this way???
Here’s what O’Malley had to say.
I do caution that Folks have some perspective/openess………there are so far only 5 “Dems” seriously seeking for the Presidency.
My guess, IMHO…. is having 26 debates like in 2008 is JUST not Practical.
One, LCheffe and Webb are Never going to get many Dem supporters in 2015 or 2016.
That leaves just HRC, Sanders and O’Malley. So far, O’Malley isn’t catching fire. People need to be realistic and try a tad harder from always seeking to find what is broken, wrong and trivial instead of making sure that No GOPer is elected in 2016.
For those who want VP Biden to run……well, if the debates are schedule now or in Sept, that may leave him at a disadvantage. He is still in mourning. Oct Debate gives him a tad more time, should he decide to run.
Dem Party today have more women than ever. That is a good thing. However, it also makes this political season for some ;) , a tad duller, quieter and calmer.

The Exclusivity clause is the problem Donna and I were discussing above.
If you want to be in the DNC debates you must sign an agreement that says you will engage in no other debates.
What is and is not a debate will be decided by the DNC at their convenience.
Is a public conversation on a stage a debate? Ask the DNC
Is a forum where candidates focus on one particular issue a debate? Ask the DNC
As I recall that has always been the agreement with presidential candidates. This is why they can’t go and have their own debates. I’m not sure that this is anything new to this election cycle. I just think that people are paying closer attention now more than ever before but I’m looking into it.
I would Don.
GW was selected for Jury Duty recently, and while there, many people lined up to have their picture taken with him. He’s still popular with Republicans and I would like to hear him publicly give his thoughts on the IranDeal.
The comments that refer to “voter fraud” is just sad. The only people who I’ve ever heard of committing voter fraud are Republicans. The only people who admit to voting multiple times to me was a republican and their candidate STILL lost.
Hello TOD on a Cloudy Thursday from MN
Fantastic R&S, NW. Thank you.
Congrats Amk for your FURST Au :star: and Gold :star: to your TOD Twin, ;) JER, Congratulations :)
Congrats to the Au :star: winners in the last 2/3 posts.
He was going to blow up tree stumps. Yea right. Instead he blew off his leg. Poetic justice, now he has a stump. I am not gonna laugh I am not, for real. ah ah ah.
Reading the comments from this article I wonder where do some of these heartless people come from? With over 300 million people in America if only 1% are the heartless, evil, and future murders we would not have enough prisons or programs to help them. Maybe there are just too many people on this planet that they are just hateful to everybody.
I know Jeff that is the problem with the “comments” on these articles, they need to be turned off because there are too few intelligent dialogue going on. These people get to hide behind a faux screen name. I wonder if they would say these things if they had to use their real names and city/state. These are the same people who want this to be a “Christian Nation” with this hatred toward the poor.
I miss the good old days when politicians hid their ignorance, but now it seems as though they go out of their way to let you know just how belligerent and foolish they are. They wear their ignorance like some sort of trophy. I’m not saying that they have to regale the public with feats that highlight their intellectual capacity, but goddamn, they should at least be able to know how to chew their food with their fucking mouths closed, not literally but figuratively speaking.
Won’t be watching Clowns on Parade tonight. Attending an open house for the Food Depot, an organization that feeds thousands of families in New Mexico. A much better use of my time.
Bette Milder wins the day! Now I’m off to look at the Lenny Kravitz gif…for the tenth time…
I’m not a student of political history nor do I know claim to know anything about politics before 1980. But what I do know is that our politicians must be above pandering to the lowest common denominator. When and where did our politics go off the rails that it would allow a Donald Trump to be the top vote getter in a variety of polls? I just don’t get it.
Know Nothings have always been a powerful strain in US politics. It’s a perversion of the idea that we’re the New World, and don’t need any of that fancy book-learnin’ from the Old Country.
FURST….
Congrats amk!! Did you make it to the next stage with your client? Hope so!
Also …
This is a BIG DEAL for many reasons ….
Thx Bob. Nope, tomorrow is the furst step. Let’s see.
Fingers crossed!!!
Congrats amk…you finally made furst :) :)
that too from bertcertland. 8-)
goodluck on the deal…..
Thank you. methinks we have a 70% chance. let’s see.
You have a 99.9% chance! 🌻 😎
LOL. mebbe I should run for us of a prezinent?
Maybee 🐝
Are you in Nairobi? What is the nightlife there? 😉
LOL.
Oooooh! good one :D :D
Ten points for the correct answer! :-)

Critical insight ….

Rock the House (and Senate) ….
Bob, your posts have me spinning. Can barely keep up with all this.
Thank you so much for keeping us informed.
Happy to do so, Vicki …. just wish I had more time …. bbl ….

Hi Vicki. I missed these rules about not having conversations with fellow Dems. Was there a link on the prior thread for this?
No. I read it a few days ago in an article with great detail. I will attempt to track it down and get back to you.
this is the link…to the scheduled debates

I remember when this happened and I was furious. This is new and was pushed hard by all the Clinton loyalists they put on the DNC.
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/may/07/democratic-national-committee-didnt-act-in-good-faith-over-primary-debate-limit
Thanks Meta. I never knew that in prior year debates that some of them were not sanctioned by the DNC. Ya learn something new everyday.
Thanks Nena. I’m off to do some investigating on this.
No harm in asking ….
Typos corrected ….
Goooooooood questions Bob!!!!
You’re super smart - I would love to hear their opinions on the IranDeal.
With all due respect Bob, I would just as soon not want to know what Bush thinks, about this or anything else.
I would Don.
GW was selected for Jury Duty recently, and while there, many people lined up to have their picture taken with him. He’s still popular with Republicans and I would like to hear him publicly give his thoughts on the IranDeal.
Ok.
I would too. But since Jebbie is running to redeem GW’s and GH’s name…….GW Bush would once again, say NOTHING.
Jeb is hardcore against the deal so I doubt any of the Bushes will air their view, whatever it is.
The American people are counting on the Democrats. We are tired of war.
Elections have consequences …. well done Oregon Dems (and OFA_OR; Judith Fardig!!!) ….
The comments that refer to “voter fraud” is just sad. The only people who I’ve ever heard of committing voter fraud are Republicans. The only people who admit to voting multiple times to me was a republican and their candidate STILL lost.
Another reason to be proud of my home state Oregon’s leadership.
Egypt has opened a major expansion of the Suez Canal, which deepens the main waterway and provides ships with a 35km (22 mile) channel parallel to it.
At the inauguration, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi welcomed foreign leaders aboard a historic yacht as helicopters and fighter jets flew by.
The expansion aims to increase the traffic handled by the canal.
Egypt’s government hopes the revenues will revive the economy - but analysts have questioned the projections.
They point out that the volume of world trade has not been growing at the pace needed to deliver the sums Egypt hopes to collect.

been getting into it with some of them. A lot of them are asshole republican voters so it’s like arguing with a rock.

How cute…..
CNN wants to know ” which ” Donald Trump will show up tonight.
“The Reality TV host with bombastic comments ” or, ” Statesman Trump ”
……..
Yes, she really said ” Statesman “.
Is there anything such as a Stateman Trump? I have never seen it.
Bette Midler’s Tweet is just Perfect.
