In honor of Donna Dem Day, let’s RT all her tweets on #IranDeal as well as those of BillR, Bobfr, etc. Attended Senator Jeff Merkley’s town hall yesterday in a fairly conservative suburb of Portland. He got a standing O at the start of the meeting, answered mostly questions openly, but said he is still studying the details of the Iran Deal. Afterward in the meet and greet I had a chance to speak directly with him and pleaded for him to come out in favor sooner rather than later. I think he will, but Wyden will need much more pressure due to deep ties with AIPAC. Oregonians do NOT want more wars, so this should be an easy decision.

I’m not at work today - took Mr. 57 to the doctor and ran a bunch of errands. (Sociopathic boss is on his third vacation to Europe this summer). So I’m listening to Thom Hartmann who had some really good information….before he went off the rails.

The good information, though stomach-churning: the Telecom Bill of 1996 literally took away the “people’s airwaves” and will require legislation to reinstate. I knew it deregulated the telecom industry, but I didn’t realize it went that far. And yes, I’ll check it out before I believe Thom’s hyperbole.

and now for the off the rails: Hillary’s college plan is “good” but not as good as Bernie’s. Then he played a Bernie clip: “When I’m President, all community and four year college will be FREE.” Uh huh, Bernie - PBO got accused of making “promises” but he NEVER said shit like this. I hope Bernie’s supporters dump him on Day One when he can’t deliver the unicorns and puppies, just like they dumped PBO. Methinks they will stay loyal to Bernie, when they turned on PBO. Sigh.

Then, Thom talked about Bernie’s frame for so many things: economic “revolution”

      Revolution? Seriously?

      I wanted to scream.

Actually, I think this gallup poll is probaganda designed to discourage Biden from running. If Biden jumps in the race, it will damage Clinton’s numbers . I don’t think they really care about Sanders…he won’t win the nomination.

No…all the media seems to report on are the size of his crowds…he’s full of hot air and not considered a threat to anyone. I think Biden will be the real threat if he joins the race…watch how quickly the media will pounce if he announces…

I don’t like politicians for 2016 who scream unoriginal thoughts from some playbook at us (Warren, Sanders, Clinton), from the podium.

I like politicians (Biden) for 2016 who will engage the nation in a continuing conversation about issues that unite us, and are best for our country and the globe … now who does that remind us of? (Hint: President Obama!)

          August 11, 2025 at 5:56 pm

Actually if he runs - they will bury it even further, or “manipulate” his numbers with push-polling and other questionable methods they used for PBO. They don’t want Biden to run, let alone WIN. They want a repeat of the ’90’s and 2000’s, i.e., a Clinton or a Bush in the WH. The MSM is not about progress…they’re about going backwards…restoring the old (and dysfunctional) order of things…maintaining the status quo. They probably know that with a Clinton or a Bush in the WH - they probably won’t have much to worry about on these fronts…

No one should be surprised by Donald Trump doing well among the GOP voters. He is rich man (though not as rich as he pretends to be) and the GOP is a party by and for rich people. The poorest GOPer will gladly and willingly go to battle for the interests of his social betters, seeking nothing in return. Trump also taps into the politics of racial resentment which is the life blood of the GOP. It seems a large segment of the GOP base, tired of being “forced” into using the socially acceptable racist code words, really like Trump for daring to utter the racist thoughts they all share. Racism and white supremacy are about power and domination over the oppressed. Trump and his out in the open racism and hate speech toward non-whites feeds into that feeling of power and domination that is seen as being under attack during the Age of Obama. Yes, Trump is the perfect symbol of the GOP, with his proud ignorance and disdain for non-tribe members. He is tapping into the very real white racial anxiety that has resulted from the Obama presidency. I can only speak of what this anxiety looks like from the outside, but it seems to be afflicting people who are genuinely afraid of America abandoning its racial caste system, which has existed solely for the benefit of whites throughout this country’s history. They feel a personal fear and anxiety (over losing something or everything) and it is causing an anger and unease of spirit, a toxic racial paranoia. This situation would be funny if it weren’t so lethal. I think the increase in police use of deadly force against Black folks is another manifestation of this anxiety and paranoia, with cops attempting to reassert white dominance over Black citizens thru state financed terrorism.

    • 81 rikyrah
      August 11, 2025 at 3:02 pm

I’m with you. He’s speaking to the heart of the GOP…the problem for them is that he’s not doing it in Frank Luntz-approved dogwhistles. Those dogwhistles enable to MSM to pretend that the GOP isn’t what it is, which makes everyone upset. And, if they can’t go along and pretend that the dogwhistles aren’t dogwhistles, then they can aid and abed the GOP. How is a man who is leading in every pole NOT speaking to the very HEART of the party. Trump does not speak for a SLIVER of the GOP. He is every much the MAINSTREAM.

REPUBLICAN CONTROL OF CONGRESS MEANS CONSTANT CRISIS

Harry Reid: Avoiding the Next Budget Crisis

    ————————————————————-

LAS VEGAS — Over the past five years, Washington has lurched from one crisis to another — the 2011 debt ceiling crisis, the 2012 “fiscal cliff,” the 2013 government shutdown — spooking markets and rattling Americans’ faith in our nation’s democratic institutions.

The situation started when Republicans took over the House in 2011, but it has picked up rapidly since they took control of the Senate earlier this year. The conclusion is unavoidable: Republican control of Congress means constant crisis.

That is why I believe that a reinvigoration of our democracy isn’t simply a matter of getting big money out of our elections. It has as much to do with what President Obama talked about in his speech at the 2012 Democratic convention…citizenship.
We, the people — recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which asks only, what’s in it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in their defense.

As citizens, we understand that America is not about what can be done for us. It’s about what can be done by us, together through the hard and frustrating but necessary work of self-government. That’s what we believe.

I am a Debbie Downer on this……and here is why.
Based on the stories posted here Via the Twitter Machine, many of these Sanders’ Attendants at his various rallies have issues with the BLM, Pres Obama, HRC and the Dems in DC. The notion that they will do a 180 and become a VP Biden support is not impossible, but questionable and doubtful at best. VP Biden is a strong supporter of Pres Obama.
These people have idealistic sentiments and beliefs…….winning isn’t their goal. Being Right and Feeling that They Showed THEM are more enticing to them than rallying around the provable Obama Coalition in 2008 and 2012.
Last, these are the same people who would excuse away Sanders’ closing GITMO vote, his Gun Votes, cheer his claim to a March in 1963 with MLK, 52 freaking years ago……with Zero policy since his adult life supporting Civil and Voting Rights, matters concerning to people of color, etc.
Janet Jackson sang: What have you done for me lately……….
VP Biden says always…….Show me your budget and I show you your priority.
These Sanders fans may mean well, but they open their mouths or Tweet out their thoughts, I personally Pity Them.
