Nerdy, Thank you. I will enjoy the delicious treat you’ve posted above after I provide the TOD Updated late Friday Count:

We Have 30 Yes or definitely leaning Yes votes in favor of the Iran Deal
We need 34 to sustain PBO’s veto, should he be forced to veto a GOP No resolution.

There are 13 senators who are most likely to support the Deal. They are
Undecided—- Bennet Booker Cardin Casey Coons Donnelly Flake Heidtkamp Warner
Unclear, or no info—Cantwell Murray Mikulski Stabenow

Mark Warner has published an editorial in favor of the deal but hasn’t said a definite Yes.
    Flake is a Repub.
Mikulski is not running again in 2016

    (D) senators leaning No with Schumer who is a confirmed No—are Wyden Peters and Menendez

WaPo has Casey on the leaning NO list. Hope that changes.

I placed my calls to Casey’s office, but couldn’t get a confirmation yes or no. We need a lot of PA Dems to call both his Harrisburg and DC numbers.

Wyden is up for re-election in very anti-war Oregon, but he doesn’t have any opposition yet and no primary opponent in sight. Liberal groups are pounding on him to support the Iran Deal. We have written a personal note to his chief campaign fund-raiser that any further donations from us will be contingent on a YES vote for the Iran Deal.

        August 14, 2025 at 8:45 pm

I see MoveOn is organizing now in Oregon to pressure Wyden. I wrote a guest post on BlueOregon but don’t know yet if they will publish. Wyden definitely needs to be primaries. He thinks he can diss his constituents in favor of Netanyahu, he’s got another thing coming.

What a perfect collection of photos of another historic triumph in the great presidency of Barack Obama! I shudder to think how many years we would have continued to maintain a hostile relationship with Cuba if PBO had not decided to change the outmoded, cold war paradigm that defined US/Cuba relations. The GOP candidates mouthing idiotic complaints about this improved relationship sound like mindless, out-of-touch, sepia-toned relics of the past. The world is changing at phenomenal speed and these morons can’t keep up. On a related note, I hope that the time will soon come when we can spend a little $$ to build a less hideous looking embassy in Havana. This monstrosity is an eyesore!

They all are idiots, the entire 17 Republicans. I am willing to bet if President Obama were running against Donald Trump he would not be afraid to take Trump head on. I guess the reason they don’t take on Trump is because they are just like Trump and they don’t want to offend that racists base of theirs.

#44 is 54. It feels as if there is some seriously esoteric and metaphysical (energy behind form) that this significant occasion is taking place on a New Moon in Leo, 10 days after PBO turned 54. I just love love love it! <3 :bear: <3

A last comment from me tonight is an addendum to my count earlier.
    We have 30 Yes votes.
34, the near goal, supports PBO’s veto.
30+13 maybes means we may reach a bigger goal which is 41 Yes votes meaning the No votes cannot get cloture and pass a resolution of opposition.
34 Yes stops the GOP After they vote against the Deal.
41 Yes votes stop the No vote in its tracks.

Good evening TOD! Well, Trump finally is making the GOP primary actually interesting. He just ripped both the bandage and the scab off of Jeb’s Iraq claims. Said it was an absolute mistake to go into Iraq, cost us thousands of lives, innumerable disabled vets and trillions of dollars only to upset the balance of power in the ME between Iraq and Iran. We enabled Iran to strengthen its influence by taking out Saddam Hussein and got nothing. He also said we had to leave. But of course, he also hit PBO which pissed me off but he just destroyed the Bushes in very clear cut language. Amazing. Just a fabulous GE ad for the Dems:-) He also went after the money and super pacs, saying there needs to be disclosure of donors. After this spectacle, my guess is that the GOP knives will be out in force very soon to try to bring him down.

While he was still Trump, he clearly has hired better staffers and is listening to them. He was more toned down and much more substantive than anything I’ve heard from him previously. Still nothing much on the policy front but said that is coming and I suspect it is. Based on what I saw tonight, he has decided he is in it to win it and the GOP now has an even bigger mess on its hands. I think he is ignorant on many fronts but he is not stupid and he has no qualms about taking out every other GOP candidate with a particular eye to Bush. I see this as all good. The more damage he does to Bush the better for the Dems. He also took on Fiorina and her dismal performance at HP. It was quite entertaining although he remains loathsome.

Foxfire. Yes. From Trump’s first announcement of his candidacy I said that he was extremely dangerous to his party because in between his bragging and self-aggrandizement he Told the Truth.
Yes, as you’ve noted, about the Iraq war and in great and accurate detail about how we not only lost the politics , but we lost the oil.
China and other Asian nations got 4 out of the 5 richest oil contracts and Royal Dutch Shell got the fifth.
USA shut out of first round completely.

If Trump continues in this vein I wonder what happens next?!? It surely seems like a scorched earth policy as far as the GOP.

The DNC distancing crap was a milder version of the destruction of a political party. Chuck Schumer.

I have no idea what happens next but I’d like to see the Dems rally around POTUS and his pick for his successor.

If ya’ll decide to read any article published on NOLA, 10 years after Katrina…please read Charlie Pierce’s Esquire column.

    My reaction:

    Wow…just wow.

Beautifully written, beautifully done. As a NOLA native and Katrina survivor, I just had to say thank you. After reading a few articles so far that seem to almost revel in the changes that have occurred in NOLA since Katrina without acknowledging how much pain and hurt and sacrifice happened and are still happening these 10 years since, I have to say your article made me both emotional and satisfied that someone seem to finally get it.

Beautifully written, beautifully done. I’ll be sharing this far an wide to my NOLA peeps.

    Thank you Charlie Pierce
