The French were/are so appreciative. Many were screaming and shouting Thanks to the Young Men who were able to save 500 from death and/or harm.
I am still amazed as to how the 26 yrs old gunman was able to board a train with AK-15, hand gun, knife and over 250 bullets.
One of the American soldiers who restrained the attacker on the train said that it appeared his weapon was faulty. Alek Skarlatos, 22, said: “If that guy’s weapon would have been functioning properly I don’t even want to think about how it would have went. “He also said that the attacker did not seem to know how to handle the gun properly. Mr Skarlatos told Sky News: “I grabbed the handgun, got the handgun away from the guy and threw it. Then I grabbed the AK which was at his feet and started muzzle-thumping him in the head with it.
“Everybody just started beating on the guy while Spencer held the choke hold, until he went unconscious at that point. People started to restrain him.” Mr Skarlatos - who said that everyone was just reacting on “adrenaline” - picked up the AK-47 and checked the other cars to ensure there was not another gunman. Mr Skarlatos returned to car 12, where it all started, cleared the weapons and put them in a pile.
He told Sky News: “I noticed when I removed the round in the chamber of the AK that the primer had been struck, which means he pulled the trigger on the AK. “The primer was just faulty, so the gun did not go off, luckily, and he did not know how to fix it, which was also very lucky. “When I cleared the handgun I also noticed that there was no magazine in it - so he had either dropped it accidentally or did not load it properly. He was only able to get what appeared to be one shot off with the handgun.”
Army folk having a little fun
In retrospect, we should have known better than to think it was a Marine who defended France. Historically, that's an Army/AirForce mission.
The overly cautious me wish these young men wouldn’t give so much detail to the media. Who’s to say the potential murderer won’t get himself lawyer-ed up and use their words to get himself off? Like saying he didn’t intend to harm anyone, his gun wasn’t even properly loaded, he was yada, yada. Yea, I always think of the weirdest thing, but lawyers are such tricky creatures and they undoubtedly have some who share the same hatred of ‘others’ that this shooter does. You did a brave and heroic thing, potentially saving lots of lives, but keep a lid on it with the details young men!
:D Does this mean the shooter won’t be able to talk himself out of the consequences for his actions no matter how many lawyers step forward to defend him? I was reading elsewhere where another of our heroes admitted to hitting him, and I thought ‘Ouch, don’t say that! Pretty soon he’ll be setting himself up as the injured party.’
Jesus….this along with India/Pakistan Kashmir flare ups (this from two weeks ago)
Pakistani and Indian border guards have traded gunfire and mortar shells along their disputed border in the Himalayan region of Kashmir, killing two Pakistanis and an Indian, according to officials. Six civilians were also wounded by Indian fire on Tuesday in the Bajwat sector near Sialkot, a city in the eastern Punjab province, Pakistan’s military said. It said Pakistani troops responded to the “unprovoked” Indian fire and that the exchange of rounds continued into Tuesday afternoon. Inspector General Danish Rana of Jammu police blamed Pakistan for firing first, saying an Indian villager was killed when Pakistani troops shot at a dozen Indian border posts in the Jammu region.
And now this: http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/pakistan-ready-planned-talks-india-33245580
War with Iran, after being pushed by the neocons for so long, seems to have been avoided. So it looks like the specter of war has just to appear somewhere else. Damn…
I wish these reports would start off saying what really caused the speakers to become activated…
“The speakers were shut down in 2004, when tensions on the peninsula were easing, and the South did not use them again until Aug. 10. Six days earlier, two South Korean soldiers were maimed by land mines near their guard post in the Demilitarized Zone; the South accused the North of planting the mines, which it denied.”
This is huge news and I have no idea how I feel about it.
My first reaction is to hope this brings about the defeat of Bibi. Of course, that is my first hope for anything on any day.
Now i will read about what the middle east “experts” have to say.
Mahmoud Abbas Resigns As Head Of Palestinian Liberation Organization: Report
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has stepped down from his position as the head of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), local media reported Saturday. Several other top-level officials of the PLO also reportedly resigned.
Abbas, 80, remains Palestinian president, a position he has held since 2005. The Palestinian National Council has called for a new election within 30 days to determine who will take over on the PLO’s executive committee, according to Al Arabiya News.
Sorry TOD I had to go run some errands. So it looks like the consensus is for a June 2016 TOD meet-up in DC.
Looking at the calendar how about June 23-26th? Save those dates for now and we’ll see if those work for everyone. I’m thinking the 24th for the White House visit. I’ll get in touch with my contact to see how far out I have to get names to him. Forewarning, you won’t be able to go to the WH if you decide at the last minute that you want to join us. You will be able to do everything else with us just not the WH tour. They have to screen visitors and that takes time. I just don’t want anyone disappointed. Getting Excited :):):)
Donna, I’m in and I’ll set those dates for my Vacation. I’ll have VC give you my email address when she sends you her’s. I’ll also inform the rest of the CA TOD peeps of these June dates.
I’m getting excited - this is Really gonna happen 😘
I just transferred $25.00 into my new Going to see PBO savings account. I will make regular contributions to this account. This will be my money set aside for this memorable event. I am beyond EXCITED!!!!
We have to show him that we are fiscally responsible people. We should not go into hock just to see him, he would be sorely disappointed and I don’t want to disappoint my President.
Donna - I’m so excited at this prospect and want to be on the list. My husband and I signed up for our first ever Overseas Adventure Travel tour to Peru (June 6-21, 2016) with college friends, so these dates for DC will not interfere. Do you have my email address? I can DM you on Facebook with it to stay in the loop. Thanks for being the point person on this!!!
Noticed something on the previous thread about this and now #Warren is top trending on Twitter because of the meeting :D:D:D
Oh Joe!!!
The Biden-Warren meeting today at @VP residence came at VP's request, lasted over an hour, no staff present http://t.co/LXMETgssoS
— Jonathan Martin (@jmartNYT) August 22, 2025
Of course he’d meet with Senator Warren. I just wonder if he told her that, besides appreciating her support, his top choice for VP would either be AG Lynch or Amb Rice :)
I totally agree! He’s been watching/ doing for years….timing is everything….I trust him like I trust PBO. If he decides to do this, he will far and away look/act like the adult in the room:) WITH EXPERIENCE to boot!!
No No No! No! Let Warren do the VP job. I’m not one of her fans. I’m a fan of POTUS & VPOTUS and I want JB to do whatever he has to do to win. And to WIN, we’re gonna need a full “white tray”. I want AG Lynch to remain AG because that’s where VPOTUS will need her. i want Jeh Johnson to remain Homeland Sec too. He’s gonna need people he can really trust. I want Amb Rice to be SoS, which I think will probably happen. If you’re a Scandal watcher, you’ll understand when I say EW reminds me of the character VP Susan Ross who’s a PhD like Warren, well read, and able to translate complex policies into the common man’s experience of them. I want to win so we can take our policies to the next level. She will bring over majority of Bernie supporters who were originally Warren supporters.
All I can do is smile when I read your comment, idon :) Love the spirit!!!!
One thing I know better than anything about VP Biden is that I trust him the same way I trust PBO. Whatever he decides to do, he’s got my undivided attention and support!!
BTW, I do think he and Senator Warren would make an amazing team.
Hard for me to forgive all the nastiness Warren threw at PBO during the TPP debate, practically calling him a liar and doing everything to stonewall his efforts. We need more than a firebrand, IMO. Just my 2¢.
Yes, that and her behavior during that time was a royal ‘mess’. However, part of that is politics. If he runs, I will support and trust whoever he chooses! Run, Joe, run!!!!!!
Share your distaste for her behavior toward PBO, for sure, meta. Like I said, I trust Joe Biden and we have a long way to travel before his VP choice is an issue. Let’s get him to run and be sure he wins the nomination! :)
And, as you know, I have personal favorites - AG Lynch and Amb Rice :)
I’m guessing he met with Warren to gauge her general perspective on 2016 because she is part of the Senate leadership and she’s not publicly committed to HRC. Such a long, long process to go. As you say, first we need him to run and win the nomination, then look forward to a running mate at the DNC. Fingers crossed.
What most news outlets didn’t report, however, was that the study was partially funded by pharmaceutical companies that make expensive, prescription-only head lice remedies.
Outside job, huh? I wouldn’t want those lice literally “jumping off” into my house! Honest to god…when my daughter was little…in kindergarten, she got lice 8 TIMES!! I thought that I would commit myself to a mental institution! They aren’t a hazard, but who the hell wants bugs on them?! It’s just itchy and gross…
Hello to everyone! Just checking in….Missing all of you. Congrats on first tnmtngirl, hellooo to Ms Chips and Danny, and to all of you lots of love and hugs. Hope everyone has a great weekend! XXXX
“Today I surprised myself. So far I have been horribly and deeply ambivalent about the Corbyn Surge. I loved the fact that the glass ceiling on austerity, public ownership and Trident have been shattered. The energy it has released has been a joy. But I worried deeply about a political project that might not be plural, carried at least traces of left elitism, didn’t understand our emerging network society and had little by way of an organisational or electoral strategy. I was going to abstain.
I still worry deeply about those things. But I voted for Jeremy Corbyn, with no illusions, although Compass, the organization I chair, has taken no formal position on the vote. For someone avowedly of the soft left to vote for the candidate of the hard left is a big step. But things change. There is no perfect wave, and Jeremy isn’t perfect. But this is not about the person but the moment and the wave the Corbyn candidacy has unleashed. I voted for the wave.”

I voted for Jeremy #Corbyn today - and here's why http://t.co/X3sYXObMSQ

“But the tipping point for me was the realization that what is happening around Labour is metaphor for what we want for our society. For people to join, participate, debate and decide. Life as a democratic and collective endeavour. In the summer of 2015 Labour is starting to prefigure the world we want to make happen. Because there are no short cuts to a good society – no leader and no elite of the right or left is going to do it for us – we were always the people we have been waiting for. Jeremy Corbyn may or may not see that - but the wave is starting to feel it.”
If anyone here loves pork tenderloin and chutney…this is the BEST RECIPE EVER! I lost my copy of Bon Appetit that this was in and found this chutney recipe today that I have been dying to make again for YEARS! I still make my tenderloin like this, but I know that recipe by heart….the chutney was not memorized:) It’s so delish…
So did Paul Ryan of WI, VP Biden of DE and Joe Lieberman of CT.
The difference…….their respective states didn’t make a special rule. Their states either didn’t have law for or against unlike, in KY where the law is explicit and unambiguous.
FRANKFORT — It wasn’t unanimous, but Kentucky Republicans voted Saturday to hold a presidential preference caucus next year, helping U.S. Sen. Rand Paul get around a state law prohibiting a candidate from appearing on the same ballot twice.
But the approval of a caucus is conditional on whether Paul has transferred $250,000 to an account controlled by the Republican Party of Kentucky before Sept. 18. If the money is not there, the party will automatically revert to a primary.
there is a reason that stories like this are spilling out

Israel Came Close to Attacking Iran, Ex-Defense Minister Says
By JODI RUDOREN
AUG. 21, 2015
JERUSALEM — A former Israeli defense minister, Ehud Barak, revealed new details to his biographers about how close Israel came to strikingIran’s military facilities in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and why it did not despite his and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s desire to do so, according to interview excerpts aired on Israeli television Friday night.
Mr. Barak, who also previously served as Israel’s prime minister, said that he and Mr. Netanyahu were ready to attack Iran each year but that in 2010, the military chief of staff said Israel lacked the “operational capability”; in 2011, two key ministers waffled at the last minute; and in 2012, the timing did not work out because of a joint United States-Israel military exercise and visit by the American defense secretary. He noted that the two ministers who balked in 2011, Moshe Yaalon and Yuval Steinitz, “are the most militant about attacking Iran” today.
The interview excerpts were aired by Israel’s Channel 2, which stressed that Mr. Barak had sought to prevent them from being broadcast, but that they had been approved by Israel’s military censor. Reached late Friday by telephone, Mr. Barak confirmed that the recordings were authentic but said he had provided the information on background to the authors, Ilan Kfir and Danny Dor, whose book, “Barak: The Wars of My Life,” came out this week in Hebrew.
No way. Furst again!? :)
You’re on a roooooooooooll, tnmtngirl!
Yes, I am. Where IS vc?!?!?!?!?!?! lol lol
Sitting back and watching you all scamper to the gate, TnMG. These days I’m, more often than not, in a more laidback mood.

Hi my friend, but you do realize that this is Europe and not America. Mentalities are completely different as are laws.

Hahahaaa! Scoot over, sistah!

Ya know DF I’m good but I’m not Lincoln Bedroom good :)
I’ll start checking on hotels downtown.
I’d happily sleep anywhere as long as I could meet the family:) Thanks for your help, dd:) If you need my email, I can let Chips know.
I’ve already asked VC to send my email to Donna. I’m ready!!!!!! Let’s Do This!
Yes! Let’s!
I just transferred $25.00 into my new Going to see PBO savings account. I will make regular contributions to this account. This will be my money set aside for this memorable event. I am beyond EXCITED!!!!

Can I dream of sitting with him having a TOD conversation???…. Be still my heart
that is a great idea
And she did indeed send it.
Whew! That’s one thing off of my To-Do List :D :D

:)
Please count me in - would definitely make the trip to the WH (if I have to walk all the way from my state just to be there)
Donna - I’m so excited at this prospect and want to be on the list. ibid.
I’m getting a good feeling….whatever he decides, I’ll respect…but I’m getting a feeling!
As am I, df. And, I personally do not think that his son’s death has deter his thinking or delayed his timing on the decision.
Why would he have announced any earlier than Labor Day?
Why would he waste any resources, including personal time, fending off the Hillary & Bernie fanatics?
He only needs enough time to be sure he is properly registered in the Iowa caucus and the NH and SC primaries.
He’s been ready for the first Dem debate since before 2012 :)
And, as noted yesterday ….
#LetsRollJoe
deterred not deter …
I totally agree! He’s been watching/ doing for years….timing is everything….I trust him like I trust PBO. If he decides to do this, he will far and away look/act like the adult in the room:) WITH EXPERIENCE to boot!!

As mentioned, there is no rush. VPOTUS has plenty of time. He already has my vote on lock.
Biden/Warren 2016
Warren? aahhh no.
This is toying with my emotions. Arggggggh!

i did not want Warren….i like the idea of Castro
Not to worry, pf58 …. a lot of water will pass under the bridge before VP Biden announces his running mate. He’s got to win the nomination, first :)
hahaha…true…that is why i should keep my counsel about the VP…till he says what he will do

Warren takes up too much oxygen. I think that would be an awful pick.
But my sense is…she will not be on the list so won’t have to find ways to swallow that pill just to get VPOTUS.
About those “super lice”….

I lost my copy of Bon Appetit that this was in and found this chutney recipe today that I have been dying to make again for YEARS! I still make my tenderloin like this, but I know that recipe by heart….the chutney was not memorized:) It’s so delish…

Thanks, df. I long ago lost my favorite chutney, too. Going to check this out.
It’s delish…I think you’ll like it
Rand Paul can run for both Senator and President…because IOKIYAR!!! One way or the other he wants 2 shots at milking taxpayers….
Yep, Special Rule for One Man…….that is NOT Democratic.
He has ZERO chance of being nominated so this is an even bigger joke than it appears ….
“He has ZERO chance of being nominated”
pretty much Bobfr
I hate to be “that guy”, but this isn’t without precedent. Lloyd Bentsen ran as both Michael Dukakis’ VP and to retain his Senate seat from Texas.
There was a law on the books. They changed the law just for Rand Paul.
In KY.
It’s the hairpiece. It’s working for Donnie. It’s working for Rand.
So did Paul Ryan of WI, VP Biden of DE and Joe Lieberman of CT.
The difference…….their respective states didn’t make a special rule. Their states either didn’t have law for or against unlike, in KY where the law is explicit and unambiguous.
Ah, wasn’t aware that KY Stood with Rand.
I SENT AN EDITORIAL FROM ISRAEL REGARDING AMERCA’S DECADENT POLITICS TO MY FB…………….:)

Late as usual - so guess most have seen this - It surely shows how money can buy an election - for a mere $250,000

Quid pro quo?
Yep.
Bribery.
I hope the President, First Lady, Malia, and Sasha enjoyed their vacation.
I HOPE THEY ENJOYED IT AND AT LEAST THIS TIME IT WASN’T CONSTANTLY INTERRUPTED…NOTHING WORSE THAN HAVING TO PACK A PODIUM AND A MIC. IN A SUITCASE!
Thanks, sue, your line about packing a podium and a mic in a suitcase, made me crack up! Good thing I wasn’t drinking anything.
WTG Tiger, Go Get It Done!
For Amk, especially :)
can Rand Paul be dethrown???
