Love this picture! Thanks for posting, Ms. furst! Sorry you have to work today. Jackiegrumbacher, congrats on real first. Still smokey hazy from all the PNW wildfires. Hard to breathe, but immensely harder for the firefighters to persevere! Bless them.
There is one thing we must never forget about the current campaign season with all the venom spewed by the Trump and the Trump” lites” who have the audacity to think they’re qualified to be president of the United States. President Obama has made it clear that he will “do all in his power to ensure a Democratic successor” and, as we have all learned in the last seven years, that power is formidable, even when things seem the darkest. You can be sure that any Democrat who wins the nomination in 2016 will get the full force of the President, our FLOTUS, and his supporters behind him or her. If that nominee is Hillary Clinton, she will have the most politically astute leader in history in her corner and he will spare no pain or burden to help her -even if she doesn’t actively seek his help. When the time comes that PBO asks us to help him ensure his legacy, I and millions like me, will not hesitate to act. That’s the power of Barack Obama and it will not go away just because his formal presidency comes to an end. So any Republican candidate who thinks he is NOT running against President Obama, has another think coming. He will be a powerful force in 2016!!!
I fully agree with you, Jackie. I will devote all the energy I am blessed with next year to ensure that the Democratic nominee wins. The GOP car is full of clowns. Mitt Romney seems less frightening compared to every single one of them. This class of 17 contains more fools one needs to see in a lifetime!
JackieG, you always state the truth so well! I like your way of getting to the core of things. Also, too, was very pleased (tho I had nothing to do with it :D ) to see that your Latino festival yesterday had great weather and was well-attended! You and your team must have felt so proud of yourselves to see this celebration growing year after ear.
Thanks Jackie for all you do. Your Fiesta pics were great fun. Thanks for sharing and doing the heavy lifting on the ground.
I’ll be right beside whoever Pres. Obama supports too.
No need to apologize, HF! …….sound the alarm  …President Obama is also doing a fundraiser for Sen. Reid’s replacement at the end of this month…which is highly unusual this early in the cycle…I was expecting an announcement at that time, but this is even better!
GOOD LATE AFTERNOON TOD FAMILY….RE…THE PREVIOUS THREAD….TRUMP PERVERTS EVERYTHIING AND WHAT IS SO DISGUSTING IS THE FACT THAT MUCH OF TODAY’S SOCIETY IS PERVERTED BECAUSE THEY WORSHIP THIS MONSTER…WELCOME TO TRUMP…THE SLUDGE MACHINE!
Yes, I think Reid’s announcement will have far more sway than that AIPAC fool whose name shall not be mentioned.
Meanwhile, I’m bracing myself for the MSM’s wrath in the coming weeks…including manufactured polls about PBO’s so-called dwindling approval…bad economy, dissatisfied consumers, etc…
Meta, if you can give me the names of the indecisive senators not covered in the tweet above, I’ll address that MLK quote to them as well. [Sadly, I can never keep the names straight even though I’ve been hanging with you TODobots for so long. :/ ]
And notice how WaPo is framing Reid’s announcement: As giving a “boost to Obama supporters.” They’re childishly framing it as a “they vs. us” scenario. So basically, it’s just “Obama supporters” who stand to benefit from a historic peace deal?
And so long as Dems hardly ever challenge the MSM on this unfair and unbalanced treatment with the same Gusto and Fever pitch indignation, the Corporate News Media would continue to ignore what most Americans want.
How did the News Media started their Right Leaning Bent?
It started with William F. Buckley, then Nixon and Roger Ailes, then Ailes and Murdoch.
There are many wealthy Dems…….yet the notion to help reshape Fairness in the News Media………the Left Elites pretend Not to Notice.
What a photo. There he is. There he is, being him, doing him, present and deeply engaged and good. Thankful for zizii2’s thoughtful and powerful post on the last thread. I don’t even like to write the name of the hate-mongering bloviator, who is given boatloads of attention far beyond what he deserves. But there’s a time to ignore bad behavior and a time to speak up and you spoke up so well. I love the images of what a real crowd looks like, a crowd drawn to hear a real leader, following real inspiration, strength, and goodness in the world. TOD is the one source where so much is covered, examined, shared, illuminated. Thank you CHIPS, Thank you, all the BT’s, especially zizii2 for this, and all who kept the lights on during Chips’s vacay, and most especially NerdyWonka, who better be in a hammock napping, or otherwise having R&R from TCB here at TOD.
"He can do plenty of damage just by encouraging people to be as uninhibited in their stupidity as he is." - Rolling Stone article on Trump— Encino Mann (@Encino_Mann) August 23, 2025
President Obama has had a great summer, and he is preparing for an even bigger fall. This president is no lame duck. Instead of going quietly into political retirement, Obama is setting the agenda, and dominating American politics. The Republican victory in 2014 has triggered an Obama resurgence that will be studied by future presidents to understand how to flourish in a second term.
President Obama Surges Into Fall After A Summer Of Big Wins Over Republicans http://t.co/x1s2oPS3kR
The Republican “Sweep” in the 2014 midterms was a Pyrrhic victory because it wasn’t the result of the will of the people. It was the result of a horrible voter turnout due to media and GOP voter suppression tactics, as well as a misguided DLC/DNC leadership & congressional candidates who refused to focus on the accomplishments of the current administration with their eagerness to pimp HRC as a potential 2016 candidate.
That’s right, OG. Now that Harry Reid has declared his support, I hope the rest of the Democrats in the Senate who haven’t yet declared their support for the Iran Deal will follow suit. Maybe even Schumer and Menendez will reconsider. No official word from Merkley or Wyden yet. Keep after them!
Manchin is leading YES.
I saw him on TV 10 plus days ago. He did say that for now, based on all he has read, he didn’t see any other deal better. He did add as Manchin would, could this deal be better, I think so.
Enjoyed Zizi’s post so much that I was apparently talking to myself on the last thread and now I come here to find you are over 40 comments in already :-)
See, if that’s the case then that’s where I don’t buy his logic. Is he implying that PBO and SOS Kerry are so naive that they are going by “trust” alone? Isn’t he aware of all the enforcements put in place were Iran to violate their end of the bargain?
Wyden is very much in thrall to AIPAC. A prominent group of J-Street leaning Portland Jewish leaders met with him for an hour last week and came away thinking there is a tiny ray of hope for him to vote yes. It would probably have to be something like the Democrats could filibuster the GOP bill but only if Wyden voted to filibuster with the needed # of Dems. Or perhaps to uphold President Obama’s veto if it comes to that. Most Oregonians will be livid if both their Senators don’t uphold the diplomatic achievement. Not really worried about Merkley.
I, am, am curious. If it is an obsession with President Obama, it will continue. If not, The Count will vanish because I, as an example, will cease to follow him. LOL.
Hay Mark Knoller, how many dinners did he have with his family? How many breakfast with the family? How many books did POTUS read? How many times did the family just sit around talking? By the way their were two nature hike, one with FLOTUS and one with Malia.

Feminism came to mean something very different from girl power. And Hillary Clinton came to look like the symbol of an older generation of women more concerned with female empowerment—in particular, with white, middle-class, American female empowerment—than with broader issues of social and economic justice. Svokos says she’ll vote for Clinton in 2016, but she’s not expecting her to make social justice and inequality true priorities if she makes it to the White House. “I find her lacking, in that I realize she’s not likely to push for the kind of change I’d like to see,” Svokos says. “At the same time, though, I believe she knows how to manage politics and will be more than capable in the position.”
(RELATED: The Rise of Hillary Clinton)
Among feminists of her generation, Svokos is hardly alone in her lukewarm feelings about Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid. I recently interviewed 47 young women, most in their early to mid-20s, who call themselves feminists; they talked about what feminism means to them and shared their thoughts about Clinton’s candidacy and public image. While the overwhelming majority of these women said they would likely vote for her in 2016, only about a quarter of them were enthusiastic or emphatic in their support. Jennifer Schaffer, a 22-year-old weekend editor at Vice, summed up a common sentiment among these women: “I’m glad we have a female presidential candidate,” she told me, “but it’s incredibly difficult to get excited about something that should have happened decades ago.” A vote for Clinton, many said, would be a vote by default, because no other viable progressive alternatives—female or male—are in the offing.
AT THE ANNUAL Women in the World Summit in New York this April, Sam Viqueira stuck out from the crowd. The summit, a high-powered gathering of leaders and activists launched by former New Yorker and Daily Beast editor Tina Brown in 2010, this year featured a keynote address by Hillary Clinton. Most of the women in attendance looked like Clinton’s crowd, her generation: Dressed business casual, the mostly middle-aged women flocked to the free coffee and Luna bars on offer, chatted in small groups, and snapped selfies in front of a Dove-sponsored backdrop. The 17-year-old Viqueira and her high school friend stood off to the side in a small lounge, looking like they were dressed for a regular day of school. They’d taken the train in from Maplewood, New Jersey. “To me, feminism isn’t only about wanting equality for all genders,” Viqueira told me later, “but wanting and advocating for the equality of all oppressed groups, which can and do intersect.”
This really looks like an article I’ll go back and read in its entirety. Later
// ……………………………………………………………….
Next fall, Viqueira will be old enough to cast her first vote. That has led her, like so many other young feminists, to think long and hard about what Clinton would—and wouldn’t—represent as the first woman president. “It’s nice to see a strong female candidate running for president,” Viqueira says, but she can’t help wishing it were a woman with a different track record. She’s particularly troubled by Clinton’s support of the 1996 welfare-reform bill her husband signed and of the Clinton-era crime-fighting legislation that, among other things, lengthened prison sentences for drug offenses. At best, she says, Clinton has been inconsistent on social-justice issues; at worst, she has been a hypocrite.
While Viqueira is hesitant to say she’ll vote for Clinton, she acknowledges that the limited options for progressive-minded voters will probably push her in that direction. But it bothers her to see Clinton held up as a model feminist: “I think it’s problematic to assume that just because she’s a woman, she’s the best spokesperson for all women.”

Will the MSM report Harry Reid’s support for the Iran deal with the same gusto they reported Schumer and Menendez’ opposition to it?!?!?
Nah! Are you kidding? Corporate media’s job is to carry Repugnant water. ALWAYS anti-Obama. No exceptions.
And notice how WaPo is framing Reid’s announcement: As giving a “boost to Obama supporters.” They’re childishly framing it as a “they vs. us” scenario. So basically, it’s just “Obama supporters” who stand to benefit from a historic peace deal?

and i am not sure that they have learned anything from that election…but i think that President….has a plan….
This has to be some kind of a metaphor right :???:
Yay! Wyden declared he would vote yes? When? What about Merkley? I keep calling and emailing them to vote yes. Celebrate!
Whoops! Maybe I misread your tweet, Judith. Guess you were telling them to vote yes, not announcing they voted yes.

Paging Senator Booker…
Also, Ben Cardin from MD….
I think Wyden is leaning no, Booker and Cardin are iffy and I’m hoping Casey is just trying to sound measured but will eventually vote YES.
I thought Wyden was a peacenik…wasn’t he one of Old Orange’s favorite people? What’s his issue now?
I think basically, he doesn’t trust Iran to hold up their end of the deal. Perhaps TODers can chime in on this.
See, if that’s the case then that’s where I don’t buy his logic. Is he implying that PBO and SOS Kerry are so naive that they are going by “trust” alone? Isn’t he aware of all the enforcements put in place were Iran to violate their end of the bargain?

Serena wins! 6-3, 7-6 against #3 Halep….now time for the calendar Grand Slam at the U.S. Open starting next week!

While it’s not exactly news that Clinton is a less-than-ideal candidate for many on the Left, the critique of her from those on the vanguard of contemporary feminism is more surprising—and potentially problematic for her presidential effort. To win in 2016, Clinton doesn’t just need half-hearted support from young women; she needs them to be a base of her grassroots efforts, as fired up as young people were for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. But even as more and more young women are embracing the “feminist” label—with pop-culture icons like BeyoncĂ© making it central to their public personas—the feminism that Clinton represents seems increasingly outmoded. While her campaign banks on young feminists like Svokos and Schaffer being “Ready for Hillary,” these women say they’re ready for more.
