Hi!
DF & Dudette, The Terrifying Twins!
That’s a compliment:) So glad that Dudette is my partner…she’s the one with the silver tongue:)
Always an honor to serve at your pleasure Highness! 😀
Congrats to you, too, Dudette!
Thanks jazziz! Good to see ya!
http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/ean08.sci.ess.earthsys.lpgwalaska/the-effects-of-global-warming-in-alaska/
The effects of global warming in Alaska are significant, varied, and interrelated. They include melting permafrost, receding glaciers, eroding coasts, disappearing sea ice, and mounting problems for native species, such as caribou, sea otters, salmon, and polar bears. Because the Arctic is a bellwether of climate change, all of us, no matter where we live, should be concerned about what is happening there. The consequences of global warming are most immediate in the lives of those who live in the Arctic, including Alaska Native peoples, so it’s their actions that may show how communities can learn to sustain traditional ways of life and ecosystems amidst the changing climate.
So glad he’s going here….
And I think at one point this summer there were over 600 fires burning there… but remember, ” there is no such thing as climate change!” AH!!

Congrats DF and Dudette on twin Firsts! :-) :-)
Now - Let’s Go ManU !!!
Where’s Don? Who’s playing football today?
Hi there DF!
American or International football? :-)
Mornin’ Lovely GGail! 😀
Morning to you, Georgia peach 😘
Chips and Dudette, you sneaks! Tying me up in conversation on the left hand while pushing through the open gate with your right!
Sigh, I do like effective strategies however. :D :D :D
Ha! I was coming to respond to you when I saw the new thread. DF snuck past me by milliseconds!
:D :D You done good - both of you!
Some good music for a rainy Sunday!
Good morning, TOD! I come bearing gifts… Haven’t read it yet; however, FREE is good…
Free is very good. Just downloaded it. Please use Amazon Smile. It costs you nothing but a teeny tiny percentage goes to the charity of your choice.
Cool! Thanks!
There is no doubt Alaska is beautiful state. Unfortunately, not quite as breathtaking as it has been in the past but still more beautiful than what it will be in the future unless something is done soon to halt the advance of climate change. But even then, the beauty that was is probably lost forever.
The Walruses on shore are breaking my heart.
NW, this does not mean I value animals more than Black people.
Nobody with a heart could look at scenes like that and not feel sorrow.
You’re right.
Why are you singling me out? Have I ever said you value animals more than Black people?
No, but when Cecil the Lion was killed you didn’t like the attention he received. Just wanted to make sure you know I believe in #BlackLivesMatter.
I had no problem with the attention Cecil the Lion received. I had a problem with some claiming his death was on the level as the worst atrocities committed against man. There’s a big difference with my statement and yours.
I’m very sorry NW I misunderstood.
This is going to be an amazing trip…..can’t wait!
Let’s see, if ManU can win today they will be so far ahead of another team that shall remain nameless that I don’t think the other team can be seen in the rear view mirror.
O, other than ‘Good day, Japa’, of course.
I salute your courage, Japa!! :-) 0-0 so far, though :-(
What courage? I was smart enough so that any team that is near the bottom could be intended. Ifsomeone takes umbrage, says a lot about their over-sensitivity and feelings of embarrassment for their team.
And early yet.
 Poo-stirrer!
Have to run out. Hopefully, by the time I get back you and GGAil will have said GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL several times.
Pray for us, Japa :-) Have a most excellent day!!
Thanks japa. From your lips to ManU’s feet!
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal!!!!!
Ha, you’re up here celebrating and I’m Down thread celebrating
****, Swansea goal
I know - damn
I went to turn my AC on and came back to see it.
Oh FFS, 2-1 Swansea. I need a whiskey.
What the HELL is happening????
Chips, you need to go to the loo & quick!
I think I’ll stay there!1!1!1! They have 20 minutes to save our relationship. A pile of muck!
They can DO THIS!
Come on United - at least tie with one more Goal
Japa ??⚽???
It is my hope Jim Wright will be in Anchorage to meet him. He hasn’t answered me yet but he would give a terrific observations. If you don’t follow Jim on FB you don’t know him.
I hope the President gets to see the Artic refuge. We have always wanted to travel to Alaska but never could. I travel through others words and photography.
GM CMWY, GM TODville.
Alaska is the most amazing place.
The Seward hike that PBO will travel has mile markers of where the edge of the glacier was in past years.
Hiked to the Harding Icefield (i.e, 3-4 miles pretty much straight up), an impressive sight with nothing but ice as far as the eye could see.
Spectacular wildflowers along the way, though I was there in July — by August the snowshoe bunny fur is changing from brown to white (from the feet upward).
Teehee on the Palin dig — her husband’s family is from Dillingham — I’m sure the Palin household is seething and throwing things now.
Did you do that this year? Lucky you. Some of my cousins lived there and a brother-law too. He was a chef on a cruise ship at port in Ketchikan, Alaska. Unfortunately he died 35 years ago there in a plane crash. He was a classmate too.
Very sad about your B-I-L.
Ketchikan is very isolated, only way in or out of town is by ship or plane, which is true for all southeast Alaska such as their state capital of Juneau.
If you ever plan a trip to AK, recommend the State Transportation system which is the Alaska Marine Ferry. Goes to places the enormous cruise ships don’t — 16 years ago cost about $400 for round trip ticket.
Another advantage of the AK Marine Ferry is that you have the town to yourself when the cruise ships leave and you can set your own schedule.
My traveling days are over.
Mine, too., Carollmae
But I pulled out my “I canoed Ketchikan” button from a long ago trip.
AMK are you still here? Did you go to Germany? Anyone else here have pugs? Many Bronco players showed off their itty bitty dogs on National Dog Day.
CMWY,
Speaking of Germany…
This is an amazing story of how the busboy at RFK’s assassination at LA’s Ambassador Hotel became BFFs with a woman in Germany, who reached out and helped him to heal.
Thank you Arapaho. Your suggestions are the best! I bought tiny Abutilon plants and they’re blooming. Need to transplant them. They grow easily from seed but I wanted a certain color.
Ooh, please tweet picture of your blooms!
Love flowers in the buttercup/mallow family!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree. :)
In other words, after PBO has shut the Oppo down.
GM Vicki.
Know so little of foreign affairs…
How would this affect our relationship with India?
GM Arapaho,
I thought this is about Sharif from Iran.
Other than that, i have no clue
Wow!
I’ve been to Anchorage many times. In the summer of 1997 my wife and I visited in Aug. and we toured the remains of the Portage glacier not far from Seward. It was right on the water. Since that time the Portage glacier has virtually disappeared, and retreated into the mountains. I’ve also been to Juneau many times over the years, and witnessed the retreat of the Mendenhall glacier, which used to be right near the visitor’s center, is now a lengthy distance away, and more so each year.
I might add during the same trip to Seward my wife and I and friends of ours also took the Kenai Fiords boat tour. It was fantastic. We saw incredible richness of wild life including pods of orcas and humpback whales, sea otters, seals, and so on. We got very close to some glaciers that were “calving” and were tossed around by huge waves every time a large chuck of glacier would break off and hit the water.
GM Bill R.
Glad to see you (and others) persuaded your Senator to align with the international community and support the #IranDeal.
Seward is amazing, one of my favorite spots in AK. Best hiking, IMO and the Seward Aquarium (built with settlement proceeds from Exxon Valdez) is stunning. Could watch the wild seabirds dive into the enormous aquarium for hours.
Also took one of the (small) boat tours off the coast — ice floes everywhere, and walruses too. Since that was a decade and a half ago, sounds like that is sadly no longer true. :(
I lived in Juneau, AK for ten years. Three of four of my now adult kids think of Juneau as their home having grown up there and graduated from JDHS. I became a widow and empty nested while in Juneau then retired from teaching school and moved back to Oregon. While living there I visited the Seward Penninsula, Anchorage, Fairbanks areas, Denali, and Glacier National Park. I also took an AK inland tour with Holland America when my daughter worked for them while she was in college. One of my sons graduated from U of AK Fairbanks. My final resting place will be with my late husband there. AK is beautiful and diverse.
So looking forward to El Nino! Hope its influence makes its way to the Sierras and the northern CA lakes which are alarmingly depleted.
In the Spring after our last big El Nino, visited Death Valley and Joshua Tree — rain in biblical proportions in LA those weekends, but Death Valley was dry with clouds (odd to feel raindrops on my windbreaker which evaporated before they hit the ground in Badwater) and snow-capped Panamint Mountains to the west. Cannot describe how gorgeous the proliferation of wildflowers at Joshua Tree were in April 1998.
Speaking of outdoors and climate and such ….. Ta-da!
Thanks VC! :-)
YVW, my loyal @Interior crony. :D
;-)
Looking forward to seeing Alaska with the President.
Me tooo…
this is something that the media should cover….interesting to see how much they do
Me too. Me and hubby are going to study up a bit so we can understand the geography of PBO’s presentation. My husband spent part of his childhood in Anchorage Alaska on an Air Force. He loved it.
G’morning Chips & TOD! Happy Sunday everyone. :)
Mooooooooooorning Hopefruit!!
Hurry up half time before one of our guys gets a red card 😳
 I was thinking the very same thing!
😀😀
Look at the little mascot’s reaction when he sees Rooooooooooney :-)
Too cute 😳
I’m glad that racists idiot name Palin isn’t still Governor.
Donald Trump seeks the Tea Party vote. I thought he already had the racists vote.
I never could understand why GOP voters continue to support the destruction of the planet. I have had conversations with people who seem to really care about environmental issues, who speak of worrying about the planet they leave their children, but who vote GOP. They vote for the party that opposes safe drinking water, food safety inspections and air quality standards. Polling has shown that GOP voters don’t support rich people paying lower tax rate (this sentiment was tapped into by Trump when he recently supported raising taxes on hedge fund managers), yet they mindlessly vote for politicians who enact the very policies they oppose (which has the real world consequence of having them pay more in taxes, usually in the form of increased state and local taxes necessitated by fewer federal dollars to the states). It seems to me that “tradition” is the main reason most folks vote for the GOP. I have been told numerous times by seemingly sane and sensible folks who vote GOP that their “family has always voted for the Republican ” when I ask why they vote as they do. GOP support seems very “tribal”, based on tradition and “dinner table indoctrination”. In exchange for protecting “cultural” issues (pro-white, pro-Christian, anti-immigrant, anti-gay, anti-women, anti-choice) these folks are willing to vote against their financial interest and the survival of the very planet.
You just described my nephew, It’s maddening,
Hello TOD. Good Morning. Nice. Lovely. Cool Breeze. Sunny. Blue Sky. :)

OMG! How tragically sad!
I heard last night… thanks for the video.. What a talent gone too soon.
I just watched a moving fun clip of him and Hamilton creator singing together for an impromptu audience - unbelievably sad! We just never know how much time we have; at least he had a chance to debut his dream. :(
I heard about this! Oh that is too bad! And so young - whole life ahead!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!! MATA! MATA! MATA!
