Despite a slow start in settlement, the discovery of gold in the late 19th century prompted thousands of Americans to migrate to the territory hoping to strike it rich. Alaska, rich in natural resources and beauty, has been contributing to American prosperity ever since.

I made several trips to Alaska between 1997 and 2007, a 20 year period. During all that time the people of Alaska I met always referred to their mountain as Denali, both native and non-native. I never heard it referred to as Mt. McKinley. That faux outrage from the GOP is so totally bogus.

Lots of TOD folks and beyond have challenges at present, but I wonder if I could once again ask for y’all to squeeze in more good thoughts and prayers for my son … he has his next surgery (the first of two, to close the tear in his chest cavity, a “not uncommon” post-op complication from removal of his right lung in June, since two interim procedures didn’t fully work) on Sept. 15. But because the tumor they found in June was so large, the oncologist wants to go ahead now and start looking around to make sure he is, indeed, fully cancer free. Tomorrow morning, he has MRIs and a PET Scan ordered by the oncologist. I know this will go well, but a few extra good wishes for him can’t hurt! Thanks in advance. Love y’all.
