    That drawing is powerful!

When you have time, TOD, please read this article: Why Black Lives Matter is Crucial, All Lives Matter is Unnecessary, and White Lives Matter is just Racist
It is the best explanation for the BLM movement that I have read. When you read it, you will see my comments to him.
Justin Dametz is white, which makes his article all the more potent.

Did I read somewhere that Bernie’s stump speech says he will never negotiate any trade deals?

    None? Ever?

One of his applause lines in his stump speech is that “we need trade policies that are based on fair trade, not unfettered free trade.” Yet, I have never heard him spell out what a “fair trade deal” would look like. It’s just all more fairy dust.

    Hi Everyone!

This is way off topic, but WHOA! Have you seen this trailer? Oh my goodness, I’m blown away by the whole thing — the story, Will Smith’s performance, the impact it will have. It’s a sports movie, it’s David and Goliath, it’s about science, it’s an immigration story, it’s a morality play. It’s all about America and humanity and … EVERYTHING — just WOW!

By the way PBO’s Harvard classmate is in it too.

I saw the trailer yesterday and my jaw dropped!!!!!!

I’m excited for Concussion and Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger in Black Mass.

Yes… jaw-dropping! Exactly! That was my reaction! Followed by a couple of involuntary expletives! I will most definitely be in the theatre for the first local showing! :-D

Saw the Johnny Depp trailer too. Scary SOB there. Dunno if I can take that one. Will have to gird myself for it big-time.

Man, this is gonna be some holiday movie season!

Not to troll American football, but I honestly don’t know how it’ll survive for much longer without major changes. There was one NFL player who was a couple of years into his career. He left the game and left millions on the table because he didn’t want to risk living a life with concussions and the attendant effects. You take a risk with any sport (soccer and rugby have issues with concussions as well), but it seems that American football can’t be played the way it’s played now without the risk of serious injury.

            September 1, 2025 at 12:47 pm

I believe there’s been three or four players in the past year or two who have left the game, millions on the table because of this concussion issue. I agree, LL, about it surviving the way things are now.

            This movie-WOW! KABOOM for sure.

“I honestly don’t know how it’ll survive for much longer without major changes” << Absolutely! This why this story is such a threat to the owners and the league. It's also exactly why this story MUST be told!

I mean, you have HS kids with concussions. A HS kid’s brain is still developing; they should be kept as far away from getting concussions as possible.

Morning TOD. Congrats AMK on furst. Holding good thoughts for jackie and her son on Sept 15th.

Can’t wait to see photos, etc. from PBO’s hike and boat trip today. Two amazing experiences he and his staff will have today. I hope the SS gets some time to actually look at and take in the beautiful scenery instead of always focusing on looking for danger. Course I hope at the same time they keep our beloved President safe.

That Toon up Thread is Perfect.
I love reading, listening and watching GOPers’ collective heads imploding of returning the Original name of a Mountain. It’s predictable. They react with No, Indignation and Screaming Outbursts no matter what Pres Obama does.
It is funny that the News Media parrots the righties’ evey utterance against Pres Obama and Never when in this case, Alaskans, including GOPers in AK are in favor of returning the Original name; Denali, back to The Great Mountain.

Chicago Hunger Strike To Save Dyett High School Reaches Ninth Day, Goes Nationwide
By Julia Glum @superjulia [email protected] on August 25 2015 3:41 PM EDT

The parent hunger strike at Walter H. Dyett High School in Chicago grew nationwide and stretched into its second week Tuesday. Across the country, hundreds of people reportedly consumed nothing but liquids in solidarity with the 11 parents and community members striking in Illinois. The activists were demanding the Chicago Board of Education approve their proposal to turn Dyett into a leadership and green technology academy, Chicago’s WBBM-TV reported. They also criticized Mayor Rahm Emanuel, accusing him of ignoring them and mistreating the city’s black residents.

“The true reason is the color of our skin. We are not valued in the city of Chicago. Low-income and working families are not valued here,? former Dyett mother Jeanette Taylor-Ramann told the Huffington Post.

Chicago Public Schools announced in 2012 that it would phase out Dyett due to low performance and declining enrollment. After news of the closing plans broke, the community reacted negatively, even filing a civil rights complaint alleging the planned shutdown was racially motivated.

In response, the board decided to accept proposals with the intent of reopening Dyett as a public or contract school for the 2016-17 school year. The Coalition to Revitalize Dyett put forth the idea of focusing the school’s curriculum on the environment, economy, green technology and community, while the Little Black Pearl Art and Design Academy advocated for an arts and culture institute. [Dyett is named for a longtime music educator who died in 1969.]

The third and final proposal would turn Dyett into the Washington Park Athletic Career Academy, centered around letting students explore sports-related jobs, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Dyett closed in June after its final class of 13 students graduated, and the meeting to choose a plan was set for mid-September. The group of strikers stopped eating Aug. 17, arguing that the Dyett situation exemplified Emanuel’s indifference toward Chicago’s black population.

“We have to starve ourselves to have our voices heard,? protester Jitu Brown told DNAinfo. “We’ll be here until we get this school.?

Today, I start in a new role at the White House serving as their first Director of Product. I’m as giddy, wide-eyed, and determined as ever. The White House has many digital products – from WhiteHouse.gov to the We the People Petition site. It’s a dream to be able to add to and improve this portfolio.

In order to do that, my plan is to lean on the product ideals that I learned during the last four years building Branch and working at Facebook. Wouldn’t it be great if your government had a conversation with you instead of just talking at you? The Obama Administration has already responded to 255 online petitions that had collectively gathered more than 11 million signatures. Imagine if talking to the government was as easy as talking to your friends on social networks? White House officials have started to regularly host Q&As on Twitter. These initiatives represent amazing progress, and there’s so much more good work to be done. I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned in the technology industry to the ideals of our democracy. As a mentor of mine likes to say, “It’s gonna be great!?
