g’morning TOD ~ wishing all of you a happy healthy Wednesday. This morning begins the hearings on the 6 cops who killed Freddie Gray.

First hearing in Freddie Gray case begins in Baltimore http://live.baltimoresun.com/Event/Live_coverage_First_hearing_in_Freddie_Gray_case_begins_in_Baltimore And of course both cops & media are pushing the meme that all hell is going to break loose w/ citizens.

On a very sad note, a couple in their 60’s died in the middle of the night here- 2 streets over- when their house caught fire. Just so awful.

sooo sorry to hear about the loss…of the elderly couple….

on the note about the media echoing the voice of the Police….it is to support the meme that blk folks are animals that need to be caged….that they are not really human beings at all….

Very sad news about your neighbors, Sheri. Everyone there must be in shock right now. Take care.

I just ran across some tweets from an RTV reporter in Baltimore. [I’ll post some below] Can’t say I’m surprised, once again, at how badly the police are behaving toward the people they’re supposed to be there to serve — especially when people are in PEACEFUL protest. It truly is like the bodies and voices of Black people are treated like weapons. The dehumanization is real; laid bare for all the see.

Morning, Chips and TODers. I so want to be where President Obama is-breathtaking scenery, cool air and fun things to do. Okay, so maybe it’s PBO who makes it all look like fun. I wonder if we’ll get our final veto sustaining vote today.

But Chips, if we got there and he was gone, would it still be as much fun? Just asking because he does seem to bring a little magic dust with him wherever he goes. He could probably make even hot, humid, boring Central PA seem special.

1st world problem - I just need a social director. Trying to plan a trip south & some towns have cheap rates on the weekend & some have cheap rates during the week & I always end up in the wrong town at the wrong time. Guess the 1% don’t have these problems.

But rikyrah, she has one toe on one principle and that makes her saintly in her own eyes. It seems to me that even an “elected” official can get dumped for non-performance of duty. There has to be a way they can put a fully functioning person in her place.

I saw today that the folks filing the suit don’t want her jailed, since that will make her a “martyr” for her “saintly” cause. They want her to be fined, since she’s not performing the duties she’s paid to perform.

I’d like her to resign, of course.

Goooood Morning Chips, Danny and TOD! THANK YOU Chips and Nerdy for the fabulous coverage of PBO’s Alaskan adventure. The photos are incredible, and make me want to visit even more than before:-) Looking forward to the Arctic portion today.

So surprised at the votes from Sens Casey and Coons yesterday. Really thought Casey in particular would be a no. Hoping that first victory is achieved today with one additional senator, and then on to the filibuster vote. PBO can lose three more Dems and maintain the filibuster (possibly) so cautiously optimistic. I did see a note somewhere yesterday that Casey may not support the filibuster, undecided on that point. He really thinks we need to hear more of the worthless GOP talking points? It would be one thing to support the debate if the GOP was truly debating the merits of the deal. But of course they are not. Hopefully he will change his mind on this.

In any event, looking for a great day today!

    • 111 nospin
      September 2, 2025 at 10:56 am

in this case…it should have been counted. This vote was a no-brainer and to think Dems had to dig deep just to get to a basic count is pathetic.

      • 112 99ts
        September 2, 2025 at 11:06 am

Not arguing with that nospin - just do not understand why not even ONE republican thinks peace is a good idea. So many dems voted for GWB and his WMD - why are the GOP so in step against this one?

Maybe I answer my own question - republicans believe lies much better than they believe the truth.

Reading the tea leaves…or trying to!

    http://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/first-read-bidens-2016-answer-could-be-coming-soon-n420191

As Vice President Joe Biden mulls jumping into the 2016 presidential race, he has a schedule that certainly LOOKS LIKE someone who is ramping up his activity. Today, he heads to Miami, FL — with plenty of reporters in tow — to deliver remarks at 2:00 pm ET on the importance of college and community college. Tomorrow, he meets with Jewish leaders in Miami to sell the Iran deal. Then, on Monday, Biden travels to Pittsburgh to participate in Labor Day festivities. And finally, on Thursday Sept. 10, the vice president will appear on Stephen Colbert’s new show. The battleground state of Florida! The battleground of Pennsylvania (where he was born)! A late-night appearance with Stephen Colbert! At the very least, we could get an answer — or maybe better clues — from Biden about his 2016 intentions on Colbert’s show. After all, it would be very hard for Biden to duck a question about a White House bid on that show.

    Jeb Isn’t Tough Enough
    By Martin Longman

I kind of wanted to claw my eyeballs out after reading Ann Althouse’s take on Donald Trump’s emasculation of Jeb Bush. She is one strange lady. But I will say this: it’s never good when a male politician is made to look weak, and it’s particularly devastating when the office they seek is the presidency of the United States of America.

Donald Trump may mince around like a showgirl in Ms. Althouse’s imagination, but he’s got a left hook like Joe Frazier and he’s knocked Rick Perry, Lindsey Graham, and Jeb Bush flat on their asses.

Now, for starters, Jeb Bush is supposed to be a colossus. With the amount of money he raised and his family’s deep connections in the Media Establishment and throughout the Republican Party all the way down to the precinct level, Jeb Bush is supposed to be intimidating. If you cross this family, you should expect to pay a heavy price. From Grandma Barbara on down, this group doesn’t even let the dish grow cold before they start exacting revenge. As for Dubya, he cut his teeth as the Sonny Corleone of the family, cutting people off, delivering the death stares, calling people on the carpet and even taking care of the most unpleasant firings. If Poppy was genteel and civilized, his boy-consigliere was a head-cracker. And when it came time for Dubya to become a politician in his own right, he brought on guys like Karl Rove and eventually Dick Cheney to show you how a ratfucking is properly applied.

You could run against them, and maybe even beat them, and you could cover them on your political beat, but you needed to show some respect or you’d know about it.

What Donald Trump has done is just waltz right in and show this family, and their second-rate Prince Harry, whatever is less than zero respect.

Jeb Bush is just an extremely weak candidate, all the money and connections in the world will not change this reality. He is a gaffe machine, not a strong public speaker and has the albatross of his brother’s disastrous presidency around his neck. The GOP establishment favors Jeb because he is controllable, it is his turn and he has the best shot of getting some Latino support (Jeb speaks Spanish and is married to an Hispanic woman). The problem arises that the racist base is not very fond of Latinos and more damningly, Jeb’s defense of Hispanics has been weak and tepid. Just as voters blamed John Kerry for not fighting back hard enough against the draft dodgers that were trying to smear his military record, Latino voters see a weakness in Jeb in his inability or unwillingness to defend his wife (and Hispanics in general) against the racist onslaught being carried out by Trump.
