When Liverpool scored I felt physically ill and 100% certain they’d at least draw. But then our new baby did his thing - I am seriously in lurrrrrrrve!!!!
Don, American Football has become a game of crooks and criminals. It is now “over-rated”. I hear that the Raiders have just signed some guy straight out of - some criminal mess or such…
I’m just a simple man trying to make my way through the universe. My taste are that of a common man, I do not have any grandiose ideas about my station in life. May I please enjoy my “Football”, it is one of the few joys in my life other than my wife and kiddo. I cannot fight that massive behemoth that is “Euro-Football”, I humbly ask for mercy from that behemoth. Please do not crush me.
L love to watch rugby. My husband played when he was young. Then he hurt his knee. The saying we always had was rugby was a ruffians game played by gentlemen and soccer is a gentleman’s game played by ruffians.
I really like Smartypants’ commentary and usually agree with her take. However, I cannot for the life of me understand her refusal to believe that news organizations have political biases. Her refusal to face this reality leads to numerous articles where she is shocked or surprised when news outlets act in a blatantly partisan manner (always to help GOP/hurt Dems). This time it is the shoddy reporting of the NYT regarding Hillary’s emails. Frankly, I don’t see how anyone who is paying attention cannot see the media working on behalf of the GOP. Look no further than the 2014 midterms with the media doing its part to stoke fears and present a world run amok in an effort to help the GOP, and magically after the election all the fear mongering ended as if on cue (because it was). This naïve trust in a media that has shown itself to be unwarranted time and again, yet it remains. This childlike trust of institutions used by the ruling class to impose its will upon the populace maybe one of the gravest threats our democracy faces.
A quote from that article I believe you are referring too:
“I am not one that buys into conspiracy theories about how news outlets have political biases (other than Fox News, of course). But it has been fascinating to watch some of them jump at the first rumor of wrongdoing on the part of Hillary Clinton and then be so slow to provide facts that exonerate her. It’s not so clear that another old saying - “better late than never” - gives them much cover.”
How can she not see it? She gives herself all the proof she needs right in her article when the media completely ignored that all important conclusion by the DOJ and instead spent 3 days talking about her “apology”. You’d have to be blind not see the media bias.
This childlike trust of institutions used by the ruling class to impose its will upon the populace maybe one of the gravest threats our democracy faces.
*************************
i have read her many times…i have never found her to have childlike trust of anything…
We all have our blind spots PF58. I use the term “childlike” because she displays a naivety concerning the media having a political agenda. The article quoted by Donna Dem is an excellent example of what I am referring.
Just caught up with Tally’s brilliant post on the last thread. If knowledge, logic and common sense made any difference to the bigoted and the brain dead, her clear presentation of facts would awaken some of the blind followers of Huckabee, Cruz and Davis. But knowledge and common sense are beyond those who support this trio. Cruz and Huckabee are cynical exploiters-hypocritical to the core-and Cruz is just a lunatic out to make a name and a buck for herself. Soon people will get bored with the looney show and move on to something equally stupid and pathetic.
Hi-ya, JO’B! Thinking of you and your ‘young man’ as the date draws much closer for his follow-up treatment.
(re cartoon) I have been exposed here to some really great political cartoonists who do excellent content work almost daily - in direct contrast to the ‘regular’ journalists and pundits!
Any “excuse”! There’s a second little pistol (aka my younger great grandson, also in Florida) in the picture, but he’s not real verbal yet … stay tuned! He normally just smiles when we chat with him on the phone, and/or tosses the phone, but a couple days ago, he verbalized a whole story for me! I think it included “dog” - one of his new words!
His supporters were online earlier today begging students to go over to see him speak and someone should probably let him know that Black folks aren’t lining up to see Cornel West and tell them why. Just sayin….
I don’t know a single person of color personally who is not a part of Facebook or Twitter who knows who this guy is or is interested in voting for him.
@TheThirdFlash I'm not sure it's issues. I think that there is something happening in terms of lack on connection…

LOL - your wish is my command, Chips! I’ve been reading the posts and talking to myself on this thread not realizing that you had started a new one. Anyway, I’m going to tweet as you ordered! :)
I think Bernie’s view of “Black America” is coming from the likes of Cornel West/Tavis Smiley. Maybe that is why he seems to think needlessly attacking and belittling PBO will sit well with most Black people. Sanders and his followers live in a fantasy world.
First the deeply moving interview with VP Biden and now this. I knew something was missing from Dec ’14 until this last Tuesday - have just felt a bit off. Now I realize I was missing me some Colbert. I have a “wriststrong” bracelet, from the old show, that’s how big a fan I am (odd bit of trivia here: Joe Bonamassa gave it to me. A fan had given it to him and he knew what a huge Colbert fan I was so he gave it to me :-) ) Watched this live and just watched it over again from my DVR but I missed this. Now I’ll have to check it out again online. I just Googled and saw that an audience member had asked him to wear it. Stephen I love you!
Hiya Nena, the vet couldn’t really figure out what the problem is or where exactly in his paw/leg is causing the trouble, so he got an injection today to ease any pain, and tablets for the next few days. If he’s still limping by Wednesday then it’s x-ray time. He’s fairly sure it won’t come to that, it might just be a sprain, but he says there’s a slight chance he’s damaged the metatarsal in his foot so that would need to be x-rayed. The worst thing is, I can’t walk him at the moment - and that’s making him VERY sad!
{{{{Danny}}}} Just tell him it could be worse, he might have been stung by a wasp several times like his mom (who I only heard complain once) Hope he’s on the mend and all better soon! Hey….. did his paw start hurting before or after the wasp incident? Could he have gotten stung maybe?
Ah Madame Soph, funny you should mention the wasp possibility. I told the vet about that rather unpleasant incident and he didn’t completely rule out a delayed reaction to a sting, he said it can happen - although this would have been very delayed. But maybe that’s what it is, there was no sign of any damage to his paw, no glass, etc. Yikes.
I was stung by a wasp years ago, in a pool in Vegas, but it was one of the most painful things I’ve ever felt. Bee stings aren’t as bad for me, and I’ve only had a couple of bee stings - one of which was in my kitchen while washing dishes. The worst for me are mosquitoes! Days of itching, pain and swelling up like a tennis ball.
If he got stung right on his paw pad or toe, it could be extra tender. As long as there’s no infection, he should be running around again before too long.
“The worst for me are mosquitoes! Days of itching, pain and swelling up like a tennis ball.”
You are my sister. I blow up like a balloon, it’s a nightmare. The worst ever ….. gulp ….. was when I got bitten on my eyelids  Oh my gawd.
Just glad Danny got that injection today and tablets for the next few days, the more I think about it (and the more I Google) the more I’m swayed by the delayed reaction theory. Thanks for the comforting words Madame Soph!
…. and I had to get a flight home the next morning. I was so afraid they wouldn’t let me on (I looked like something off Sesame Street) I wore sunglasses in the quite dark-ish place I had to check in. I got some funny looks, but happily didn’t have to take my shades off - even for the passport checker!!
Chips, you and Danny ought to start a comic strip - the antics you two! Well, I’m happy that you both are no worse for the wear. Speaking of wear…there are some suits - I think Astronuts (sp?) wear that should protect you both from certain calamities
I hope the Medication works out well.
I am so sorry Danny. Danny is such a strong young man. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Don’t be sad Danny. Mama Chips will <3<3<3 on you soooooo Gooooood. I am sending loads of <3 from Minnesota.
Chips—i am a little slow but I just got the opening cartoon and it is brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bernie with Cornel West is incomprehensible. Is there an Obama fan or black person or thinking white person for that matter, alive, who can stand “brother West?” Smarmy loser.
It makes perfect sense. Sanders went on Tavis Smiley’s show soon after one of his dust ups with BLM. Now he is with Cornel West, another known hater of all things Obama. I guess he needs the services of the two Uncle Toms to repair his image among Black folks (“see Cornel West doesn’t like PBO either, and he’s Black”). The games people play. Perhaps its time for Michael Eric Dyson to prepare another dose of ether.

A lovely tweet from Serena to the U.S. Open winner. Look at the class she is showing compare to the nasty Serena haters. A pure champion she is. And as our First Lady said we are proud of Serena.

Gurrrrl, I was so excited while watching the game, but scared to comment on TOD :D :D :D
When Liverpool scored I felt physically ill and 100% certain they’d at least draw. But then our new baby did his thing - I am seriously in lurrrrrrrve!!!!
We have to share him Chips!!! :D :D
Okay, okay - you can have his ears, I’ll have the rest
Hahahahaha! I’m just getting back home and I’ve just read your comment regarding sharing! I would prefer his thighs, thank you very much :D
Oi, back off - his thighs already have ‘Chipsticks’ stamped on them
Alright, alright, I’ll take Memphis then
That was a Thing Of Beauty!
Has the Rugby World Cup begun yet? *grumble*gnashingofteeth*pullingofhair
Sigh. Weekends are beginning to be no fun.
They’re beginning to be fabulous!!!
Rugby? Do you people not know that the greatest sport every invented “American Football” has started? This is a bad dream!
Don, American Football has become a game of crooks and criminals. It is now “over-rated”. I hear that the Raiders have just signed some guy straight out of - some criminal mess or such…
I guess it’s become less pure but the league has always had its share of umm shall we say colorful characters?
I am but one man trying to fight a machine, please don’t crush me soccer.
And NFL does not pay taxes. Right.
But there’s a reason it has to be called ‘American Football’ when proper football is just called ‘Football’
I hate it when people tell a truth I can’t deny.
:-) Hello DerBingle!!!
I’m just a simple man trying to make my way through the universe. My taste are that of a common man, I do not have any grandiose ideas about my station in life. “Euro-Football” :-)
Okay, you shall not be crushed - but I am determined to convert you, one day you shall see the light!!!
I like soccer, I really do, the stamina it takes to play that game is extraordinary. Soccer players are machines.
Ahem.
First match on 19 Sep. Link to IRB site detailing teams and draws FYI. Who are you backing?
England!
(And, unlike EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE COMPETITION, England has no nickname. Pure. Pure.)
And of course, RWC will take my mind off of the shambles which are Chelsea FC at the moment.
L love to watch rugby. My husband played when he was young. Then he hurt his knee. The saying we always had was rugby was a ruffians game played by gentlemen and soccer is a gentleman’s game played by ruffians.
Good afternoon TOD folks.
Nice clip from the West Wing. So appropriate for the Kim Davis’ of the world. Apologies if it’s been posted before.
ohhh I sooo enjoyed that :) :) thank you Dakota!
Bravo Dakota - great choice!!!!

When he’s completely back on his feet, we’ll all come over for a TOD barbecue, and to receive his smiles ourselves ;) .
What a sweet thought!

But congrats to Italy.
