      To me the guy didn’t look like Blake’s twin brother. They were both bald headed and black that’s it. I just thought this was a time to walk up to Blake and ask for some I.D., but the cop didn’t do that did he.

        By the way what is going to happen to that cop?

          I don’t think anything has been decided yet, Annieb. Based on past incidents though I’d wager ‘nothing’. They’ve pulled him off the street and whether he’s doing desk work or placed on leave he’ll still be paid, so in my opinion he’s getting himself a break.

    I think the shortened week has ‘killed’ this week’s @Interior recap and the only reason I’m mentioning it today instead of tomorrow is because tomorrow is the deadline for this. Each time I see ads like these for WH interns I always wish I was young enough to try out. What I wouldn’t give to be an intern in *this* WH!

    You guys, I don’t think our JoJo would mind if I share her sadness with you.

    She has a great love for her Kitties and the last couple of days, she’s had to put two of them down due to their illnesses.

    My heart breaks when I think of her sadness.

    I just want her to know that we care <3

    New Reality TV Show Celebrates Urban Kids Who Love STEM

    Published by Helena Joseph at September 10, 2025

    Fifteen teenagers living together in a large house for eight weeks may sound like the makings of an all-too-familiar reality television show. But these youngsters weren’t chosen for outrageous antics: they were handpicked for their academic prowess in STEM disciplines.

    The family audience reality show, aptly entitled Hood Smart: The Urban STEMulus Project, features STEM scholars from black communities across the U.S. who are competing in science, technology, engineering, and math related challenges for the ultimate prize, a full-ride college scholarship.

      Looks interesting, Rikyrah. I wish it was more teamwork than competition though. In fact, I’m going to hope all the participants get some scholarship help at the end.

        Yes, VC, that would be the right ending. Surely there are some colleges who could step up and help.

          JG: I suspect that’s it or something similar - can’t see them picking just one *star*. It’d be too painful. Also in the clip several of the scenarios shared implied or mad mention of teamwork.

        I imagine that would be the direction of the program, given that these are inner-city students.

          Yes, you’d think. Being a word person though, my eyes got caught on ‘competition’ and since I believe those reality shows** are competitive I wondered.

          ** I have never watched even 5 mins of an episode of a reality show, but I have heard of them kicking people off the island or other kinds of elimination activities.

    http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2015/09/in-era-of-big-data-gop-prefers-to-keep.html

    Harry Stein has written an important article about how, in the era of big data, the GOP has mounted an attack on evidence.
    But even though Congress appears to support evidence-based policymaking in theory, a closer look shows that it is waging a quiet war on the idea. The current versions of spending bills on Capitol Hill would defund data collection, analysis, and pilot programs that are helping to solve some of the toughest challenges facing the nation.

    Amid the larger debate about overall spending levels under sequestration, some cuts to evidence-based programs were probably inevitable. But this Congress seems to be targeting evidence-based initiatives in particular, and for reasons that seem deeply political.
    The areas where this is happening leave no doubt about the political motivations. They include:

    * Climate science
    * Research on gun violence
    * Comprehensive data about violent crime
    * Research on new ways to control health care costs
    * Evidence-based practices in education

    But, as Stein notes, it’s all part of a pattern (one that has been noted previously at the Washington Monthly).

      Sadly, Df, this is another consequence of Democrats not voting in mid term elections. Americans will continue to be shortchanged and undermined as long as Congress is in Republican control. A Republican presidency would be the final blow to anything decent in this country.

    A pastor, known for his lengthy sermons, noticed a man get up and leave during the middle of his message. The man returned just before the conclusion of the service. Afterwards the pastor asked the man where he had gone.

    “I went to get a haircut,” was the reply.

    “But,” said the pastor, “why didn’t you do that before the service?”

    “Because,” the gentleman said, “I didn’t need one then.”

    Sister Catherine was asking all the Catholic school children in fourth grade what they want to be when they grow up.

    Little Sheila said, “When I grow up, I want to be a prostitute!”

    Sister Catherine’s eyes grow wide and she barked, “What did you say?!”

    “A prostitute!” Sheila exclaimed.

    Sister Catherine breathed a sight of relief and said “Whew! Thank God! I thought you said ‘A Protestant’!”

    aand I am outta here.
