Morning, Chips and TODers. Chips, I wanted to say that we don’t take for granted how much you give us everyday and how much hard work it takes. There isn’t a moment of the day when we can’t turn here and know exactly what our President is doing at the moment he’s doing it. NO OTHER SITE offers this kind of bounty. I doubt most of us could have gotten through these years of the Obama presidency without this source of information because this is where the truth lies amid a whole universe of media falsehoods. I don’t think it’s possible to say thank you too often so thanks again for all you do every day rain or shine, sickness or health. And that goes for your great supporting cast-Nerdy, LL, LP and all the others who contribute their great ideas and perspectives.

I didn’t share the truly delightful - :???: - experience I had earlier this week, largely because I was trying to erase it from my memory.

So, I’m walking along the river with Danny, he drops his ball at my feet for me to kick, my effort was as accurate as a Chelsea’s striker’s, it landed in a big bush instead of the river.

Danny crashes in to the bush get the ball, I walk past it - and with that I am assaulted by a swarm (?) of …… wasps.

It was like something out of a horror movie, they were clinging to my clothes everywhere, and while I was trying to shake off some of them, more would land.

The end result? About seven stings. And a very puzzled Danny who couldn’t really figure why I was being hysterical and dancing and leaping like a lunatic along the river.

The odd thing is that they didn’t bother me at all the next day, it was only that evening that the stings were a bit nasty.

The moral of the story: do not kick a ball in to a bush which might possibly be home to a wasp’s nest.

Oh my goodness gracious!! Hope you had plenty of calendula ointment or cream to apply!! Or at least jumped into the river! {{{{{ Chipsticks }}}}} poor dear, can picture DannyO’, puzzled to see all this action!

      • September 12, 2025 at 9:41 am

I was sooooooo tempted to jump in the river, MightyP!!!

          September 12, 2025 at 9:52 am

Just imagine the precedent that could have set!! DannyO’ would be thinking you have finally come to your senses and accepted the river is THE PLACE, so perhaps your innate wisdom saved you from such a fate! Bad enough 7 wasp stings, which your story so calmly under exaggerates!

GAAAAAHHHHHHH, that was my first thought, too. I’m so sorry you had to go through that! I would have been so freaked out of my mind and probably still reliving the horror day and night. Oh, Chips!

      • September 12, 2025 at 9:51 am

This just hasn’t been a good week, 57! And I’m off to the vet with Danny and his sore paw in an hour. How is Kasper doing?

        • 42 57andfemale
          September 12, 2025 at 9:59 am

That’s why I was asking. Is the paw still the same? No, you have had quite a week! Kasper is on the mend - I had to be really careful about pulling the lip because you can see that it could easily re-open. I put the ozonated olive oil in his mouth - it has amazing germ-killing properties. Vets don’t like home remedies, but he was astounded at how clean the huge puncture looked after almost 24 hours, and I’m sure it was because of this stuff. I didn’t go poking around yesterday but I had to take a look today. He’s his usual naughty self and still demanding homemade chicken soup in his food, the little stinker. Keep us posted on Danny.

      September 12, 2025 at 10:17 am

      it is great that you were not allergic - insect stings can have serious results on people’s health;

just last weekend, a golfer from our city here went out of town for a match with friends.

he went into the bushes to collect his stray ball and was stung by bees.

unfortunately he did not survive and his demise has been all over the local news since early this week.

I kept thinking to myself, what a fluke way to go - bees

good morning TOD & Happy Saturday to everyone ~ a bit of drizzle here this morning after a few weeks of 80s & 90s.. it is kinda nice… but I am not ready to end my summer just yet- please.

I planted tomatoes this year- my first food plants evah… and omg- have I got a lot of tomatoes. I’ve given a lot away, but still need to figure what I’m going to ‘make’ with the rest of them :)

Everything JackieG said above to you Chips- is exactly how I feel every single day. The gratitude and love that I have for this site, for all of TOD, for you and NW and LL and zizi.. and even Amk- is beyond my ability to express. I honestly don’t know how I would have managed these Obama Years without you- thank you with all of my heart. Wishing all of you at TOD a day of goodness.

      Sherijr, you’re a grade A, snuggly, lovely sweetheart!!!!!!!! :-)

        September 12, 2025 at 9:45 am

I love you back Ms Chips! Sooo glad those wasps didn’t cause long term pain and anguish.. I know they can be horrific, I think you are very lucky - even though it didn’t feel that way at the time. You be careful out there with Danny ;)

I have been feeding two stray cats all summer.. when they show up. for the past couple of months they come pretty much everyday/ night.. eat and leave. Lately the little yellow one has stuck around and we snuggle outside on my bench.. so I thought whats one more cat? And brought him in the other day to meet my 3 and my dog- who looks a lot like “Clifford”. Anyway, he came in and immediately tried to jump through the window of my back door. I calmed him, my cats tried to calm him- but he wasn’t having any of us- thus I turned him loose and sadly have not seen him again. The other cat I feed, is a black cat who came here skinny as a rail.. but is ‘wildish’ - instead of meowing at me, he hisses when he sees me, yet allows me to pet him here and there. The other night he arrived about 2 am with his crazy, ‘in heat’ girlfriend.. good lord she was a mess.. anyway, fed them both and off they went. I love animals, but no more girlfriends in the middle of the night please ;) I’ve been told that both of these cats belong to neighbors around the corner, but they are sure hungry all the time.

        • September 12, 2025 at 9:56 am

Cracking up at hissy boy arriving with his girlfriend, it was like he was taking her on a hot date to the best restaurant in town, Sherijr’s Steakhouse! I loooooooove you for being so good to these poor little things, people like you make me feel the world isn’t as crappy as it usually seems.

            September 12, 2025 at 10:12 am

aww thank you… well if they were snakes or rats, I prolly wouldn’t willingly feed them Chips ~ however when I was foolish enough to leave food out for the cats… I was actually feeding the rats too, so had to stop that as they were hanging out on the porch. So why aren’t these wild tough cats eating the rats?? I watched the yellow cat lounging on my bench one day.. next to his food.. and a rat ran up the porch and began eating.. that yellow cat watched him eat and did nada, basically winked at the rat and said hey my food is your food, bud. I had to bang on the window for the rat to finally run away.

Ha- Sheri’s Steakhouse is funny.. my sons will get a kick outta that one. Youngest son has a hissy fit whenever I mention bringing in the strays!

I have put an order in with the only place I can find in Baltimore that will spay/neuter wild/strays for free. So that both of these males can get ‘fixed’. They trap them, operate and after healing put them back out. But alas, it is going to be at least 6 months I’m told before they can get to these two. Wonder how many wild kittens will be running around by then?

I am watching reports of Mr. Jeremy Corbyn’s win of the UK Labour Leadership.

Interesting reactions from different quarters and individuals.

The next few months/years are going to be something worth watching

It would be hilarious if his bs didn’t actually affect anyone…. In fairness to Bobby,,,MANY REPUBLICANS have done similar stunts with state budgets..it’s not just Jindal…

Jindal put the state in such a deep hole that this past spring he had to resort to Orwellian doublespeak by forcing lawmakers to pass the so-called SAVE Act, which purportedly let him claim that he balanced the budget without a tax increase. Only in Jindal’s mind and La-La Land is that the case. In truth, Jindal and lawmakers raised taxes and fees by $767 million. Louisiana voters aren’t fooled — nor are those in Iowa and New Hampshire, where Jindal’s delusional presidential campaign remains stuck below 2 percent. Meanwhile, we recently learned that $767 million in tax and fee hikes still won’t get Louisiana through the first half of the current fiscal year. Already the Jindal administration has had to recommend $4.6 million in mid-year budget cuts, most of which fell on public higher education. More mid-year cuts are likely as the price of oil hovers near $40 a barrel. The Jindal budget pegged oil at $62 a barrel. It gets worse. Louisiana’s popular TOPS college scholarship program is $19 million short, and the state’s Medicaid program has a whopping $335 million budget gap — because Jindal’s budget didn’t account for increased spending across various programs. Team Jindal’s official response to all this bad news is to hope that state revenue forecasts improve. They won’t. In fact, in future years Louisiana’s structural deficit will grow exponentially. It is forecast to exceed $700 million in Fiscal Year 2017 (which begins July 1, 2025), and by FY2019 it’s expected to reach $1.9 billion.

    Good morning everybody.
News about my local election. As I wrote Thursday morning the turnout was tiny compared to the same contest 4 years ago and my neighbor lost. Tears.
I was in touch with people who voted throughout the day and pretty much, nobody showed up.

My explanation is that in my neighborhood, buffeted by years of (successful) battle against our landlord to keep our home, the oldtimers are tired of all of it—politicians, struggle, the media, which since mayor de Blasio’s election, seem increasingly unhinged and irrelevant. Nothing short of an inspiring (D) candidate in 2016 will rouse them from slumber and even then, I cannot vouch for turnout.

To understand why this matters you need to know that my particular neighborhood, prior to this year, was known for its active citizens and candidates regularly visited us.
    I bet this changes now.

    Those results plus Serena’s loss = a not-wonderful Friday.

On the plus side my family is around, we are all healthy and life is good.

Also Jeremy Corbyn won in Labour election with a larger percentage than any Labour candidate ever has before! And it was a first ballot victory. Now the media will go about destroying him.
Same playbook being run on de Blasio for the last 2 years. It is THEIR world, no matter how many elections the people win.

Nobody jump on me please because of de Blasio’s braindead remark about “enough (D) candidates.” Apart from that he has done a magnificent job—65 kid in pre-K
Lowest crime stats in NYC in many decades
NONE of which is reported. What you hear are straight up lies about murders and crimes. The msm and charter school profiteers are out to get him and they are vicious and relentless.

    • 62 Vicki
      September 12, 2025 at 10:21 am

65,000 kids in all day pre-k—-that is more than the entire enrollment in the Boston school district.
If you are a working parent the value of this alone is tremendous. The Media are very pissed off about de Blasio getting this system up and running in One Year after his election!!!
So, of course, the 1% want to take school control away from the Mayor.
