Nena, it is about ratings, and Wasserman-Schultz shouldn’t cheat the Dems out of their chances to get some of the ‘ratings’. It would be nice for some of these viewers to see that not all the contenders think running for president is a joke.

        I agree, VC.
Once again, Dems allow the News Media and the GOPers to drive the political debates……..Pres Obama and HRC were their targets last night…….all Cablers and all TV Networks today ignored FACTS as they tout GOPers Views and their dastardly backward messages across USA.

meta, are the tweets of discontent about Dem lack of debates going to PBO’s twitter site?

I find it hard to believe that he has not heard our displeasure at the lack of debates and not attempted to correct it.

Maybe y’all should start a tweet with a request to PBO and get it trending. (just a thought) :-)

I think it might be hard for him to step into the middle of this, short of sacking DWS. Most people think HRC is behind it (even though she expressed a lukewarm interest in more) so it’s bound to become a thorny issue for him.

Maybe a twitter brigade requesting more debates sent to Valerie, VP Biden and PBO?

I just believe that they need to hear from us directly that we want more debates!

I really don’t think that the President or VP should be the focus of these tweets. The tweets should be directed to the DNC, DCCC, DSCC.

More details about today’s US-Iran deal vote:

Senate Democrats blocked a resolution disapproving the Iran nuclear deal for a third time Thursday, sealing a major foreign policy victory for President Obama.

Senators voted 56-42 against ending debate on the resolution of disapproval, falling short of the 60 votes needed on the procedural motion.

Democratic Sens. Ben Cardin (Md.), Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Bob Menendez (N.J.) and Charles Schumer (N.Y.) for a third time bucked Obama and voted “no” on moving to a final vote.
GOP Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) missed the vote, while Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.) voted to end debate. All four took part in Wednesday night’s Republican presidential debate in California.

The vote came just hours ahead of the deadline for lawmakers to pass a resolution on the deal. With neither chamber of Congress expected to take another vote on Iran, the administration is poised to protect the agreement after months of intense lobbying aimed at solidifying Democratic support.

Opponents of the deal appeared to acknowledge defeat ahead of Thursday’s vote.

This was in response to the notion coming from HRC crowd that VP Biden doesn’t have the right to enter the race because he’ll split her vote and then Sanders, who is not a Democrat, wins. That once he enters he’ll only be a spoiler. That’s ludicrous on the face of it.

Betty Blake, 80, is the mother of retired tennis star James Blake. Betty, who is white and grew up in England, talks about raising two sons who are black.

In an interview about the events last week that happened to my youngest son, I said that it takes an incident like this to make me truly realize that two of my sons are black.

When you love someone you see the inside, not the outside. I know James wants to focus on the unnecessary aggression, and he’s right, but when you hear (all too often lately) of a confrontation between a white police officer and a young black male, the inference is unavoidable.

They’re doing it because they’re not called out on it.

Republicans have no ethics and no respect of rule nor tradition. The only way to make them behave is if they have a price to pay. In this case the only possible price is a political one.

They have to be called out on it. Either by the media, or by the President.

The only reason the President doesn’t denounce them constantly, I think, is because there are so many urgent and important matters where Congress needs to act, (Iran Deal, budget to name a few) he can’t raise a ruckus because those assholes will get revenge. They are out of control, and sadly, the President doesn’t have that much leverage against them. When the opposition party doesn’t care if their actions hurt people, or hurt the country, when the media is totally useless, what’s a president to do ? He has to pick his battles.

Sigh… how can this problem be resolved ?

I know that the solution resides first in media reform somehow. A democracy can’t function if the media doesn’t play its role of arbiter of the truth, if the media doesn’t call out the abuses of power, doesn’t denounce the people who don’t respect the rules of democratic institutions.

But HOW can you reform the american media ? How ??

When the GOP does things like this…their voters reward them…it is up to US to stop them…by voting..whoever sits in the halls of Congress…makes laws and influences policies

LoveP, have you been in my head? This is so uncanny but for days now I’ve been asking myself similar questions, writing out my thoughts because I’ve been so bothered by the fact that there seems to be no resolution to years of this irresponsible and damaging GOP behaviour. The only difference is that I’ve been asking myself how can one reform the system. That smirk of McConnell actually makes me wish someone could slap him, really hard. Each time I see it, I’m convinced that it’s a smirk of triumph because he knows he did not legitimately win his senate leadership.

Seems the GOP/MSM wants to see Carly Fiorina rise in the polls (I assume to be Jeb’s running mate in battle against HRC). The uniformity of the propaganda concerning Fiorina is the “tell”. GOP establishment really fears Trump because he is not capable of winning a general election (there is a reason GOP presidential candidates all run to the “center” for general elections. i.e., the GOP base is not big enough to elect a President by itself). Those fretting about the GOP having more debates or getting more attention I think are mistaken, the GOP presidential candidates are making fools of themselves. This foolishness appeals to a lot of Americans, but again, there are not enough of them to elect a president. The MSM reflects everything through a GOP-centric POV which makes it seem like Trump is more popular than he really is. In other words, Trump is popular among the GOP base, but despite what the media would have you believe, the GOP base is not America (if it were PBO would not have won election and reelection). Lastly, I don’t think it is wise to use 2014 midterm election as any sort of predictor to what will happen in 2016. Dems don’t vote during midterm elections, that is a reality and a serious problem, but is not predictive of behavior during a Presidential election.

Carly Fiorina claimed she lost a child to a drug overdose last night, didn’t she ?

Well, the person was the daughter of her 2nd husband who struggled with alcoholism also bulimia and substance abuse. She was 35 when she died.

Rachel Maddow will be fact checking Carly tonight and just said that most of her claims are ” fact free “.

    • 94 Lovepolitics2008
      September 17, 2025 at 2:46 pm

It’s very possible that Mrs Fiorina had a deep affection for her step daughter, and considered her like a true daughter. We don’t know.

      We shouldn’t go there.

Just think about Beau Biden, how Jill loved him like a son. Yeah she raised him. But I don’t want us to quantify that kind of thing and make comparisons.

Research free pandering by the GOP ?

During the second GOP presidential debate Wednesday night, Donald Trump, Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) said they would be open to putting civil rights activist Rosa Parks on the $10 bill. But the Republican candidates might be surprised to learn that Parks sat on the national board of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, one of the GOP’s biggest political enemies.

    http://www.latimes.com/world/africa/la-fg-the-africa-burkina-faso-coup-1980s-20150917-story.html

    The African coup

The coup comes with democracy being whittled back in some parts of Africa, as leaders ditch constitutional term limits to stay in power, often for decades. The Ugandan and Zimbabwean presidents have ruled since the 1980s; Burundi is edging toward civil war after the president insisted on a third term; and the presidents of Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo seem set to ditch the constitutional limit so they can stay on.

Unless the Burkina Faso coup leaders back down and a compromise deal is reached, the impoverished, landlocked country will doubtless be stripped of the Western aid it is utterly dependent on, risking collapse.
