I just finished reading AG Loretta Lynch’s speech - you should too. Here is an excerpt
And as painful as it is to watch someone suffering or possibly even dying, the result has been an opening of the discussion in ways that we have not had in significant years. And so the onus is on us to seize this moment. The onus is on us to continue this discussion, to continue this debate. Because now the world knows what we always knew. That people in Ferguson were being taxed for walking down the street and being the wrong color. The world knows what we always knew that young men of color’s interactions with the police are fundamentally different than other children’s. And that as parents, and as siblings, and as family members that we have a responsibility to point this out and talk about it as well as educate our children.

But we also have to acknowledge more than just the actions, because there’s something that goes on as well, something that’s deeper when we have these situations. We have to acknowledge the anger and the despair, the feelings that develop. You know people they always talk about wanting us to handle things in a certain way, and that’s true and and this country was built on peaceful protest. It is a fundamental right of ours and it can achieve a great deal of change. But we also have to acknowledge the anger and the despair that develops when these concerns that we now see on tape are still pushed aside by so many people as if they don’t exist. You have to acknowledge the kind of pain that develops. You have to acknowledge that feeling… and you know that people say “Well I don’t think it was that bad.” “Well I don’t think they meant it that way.” Or even, “That just didn’t happen.” You know, it just didn’t even happen. And so when that happens to people, to a people, to our people time and time again, you have to have within our community a sense of disconnection and despair that is as dangerous as any bullet or any billy club. It absolutely is.

Young men of color have been saying this for years and thank God for cell phones to document the police abuse. We all knew the “he went for his waist ban” were lies police used to justify killing unarmed poc. I will never forget the pain a young AA man telling me how LAPD made him lay down in oil in the street. He was dressed in white going home from his prom..they did not care.

As we await the arrival of His Holiness Pope Francis, I find myself pondering on how President Obama has again gone beyond all past presidents in having dignities of such high stature as HH Dalai Lama, and now the Pope, invited to the White House. Surely no one has ever made such advancement toward world peace by working with many powerful and influential people. God Bless Him, he is untouchable!!

What does HRC really mean by that? That their agenda is not hers? That she’s doesn’t want their baggage? That deep down inside she feels she has an identity crisis so she needs to separate herself from her presidential predecessors? I really would like to know the context of that quote.

Maybe the statement about not running for Obama’s third term is a preemptive statement she is using to reflect on Biden if he runs. Anotherwords set the idea forward for others to apply to Biden. Although I think others do not need the suggestion since it is easy to think of it on their own.

It’s their own ego. In my mind, PBO will never be eclipsed. It’s his brilliance, the circumstances of his terms - which are considerable on ALL fronts, the nature of the opposition and the full-blown racism and bigotry. NO ONE will have to face what he’s faced.

      September 19, 2025 at 5:35 pm

If Republicans insist on shutting down the government, they should automatically lose their paychecks.

And that’s exactly why Democratic Rep. Rick Nolan introduced a bill on Friday that would do precisely that.

In October 2013, Senator Ted Cruz persuaded House Republicans to shut the government down in an effort to repeal Obamacare. As the economy lost billions of dollars, government workers were sent home from their jobs, and businesses suffered setbacks, Cruz and the other assholes who caused the turmoil in the first place were still receiving their taxpayer funded paychecks.

Now Cruz wants to shut the government down again over Planned Parenthood funding. It looks like it’s going to happen since House Republicans just passed a government funding bill that strips funds from the women’s health organization. And you can bet Cruz and his accomplices will all expect to collect their paychecks, while they harm this country out of petty ideological bullshit based on heavily edited videos that are nothing more than complete lies.

But Nolan’s bill would ensure that even members of Congress feel the pain of a government shutdown.

“It’s time to put an end to government by crisis management,” Nolan said.

Georgia opens first prison charter school

    3:55 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015 | Filed in: Politics

FORSYTH — Behind barbed-wire fences and imposing guard towers, the painstaking work has begun across Georgia on building a new education prison system.

About 250 educators, administrators and other staffers have been hired to teach prisoners. Nearly 100 inmates have signed up for charter school courses. And 19 high school diplomas have already been awarded in a pilot program.

But the evolving program is about to face its biggest test. The first of what Gov. Nathan Deal envisions to be a statewide network of prison-based charter schools officially opened Thursday at the Burruss Correctional Training Center in Middle Georgia, and state policymakers and education analysts will carefully chart its progress.

    // ……………………………

“Another attendee [at the CBC prayer breakfast] noted, however, that unlike Clinton, Biden can fully embrace the Obama legacy without looking for points of differentiation or dispute — a factor that could ingratiate Biden to Obama supporters and the black community.

“‘Hillary tries to distance herself from the president. He doesn’t have to do that,’ said the attendee, who asked not to be identified because of his business relationships with Washington-based clients. ‘He can embrace him.'”

The fact remains that Sec. Clinton doesn’t need to - and really should not - distance herself at all from President Obama’s record and legacy. That she keeps trying to do so, and stumbles each time it happens, provides teaching moments that demonstrate she really hasn’t learned the lessons of 2008. Just the other day Clinton said she was “putting the White House on notice” that she’s going to take a position on the XL Pipeline. Well, whoop-dee-doo, nobody at the White House cares if she does or not. But judging from the social media reactions, loyal Obama voters saw that statement as another sniping, petty subterfuge of the first order.
