Morning all. Chips, glad I got to see your sunny post before I have to run out for several hours of errands. Lots to do before son arrives from CA this Friday!!! Looked up Chuck Schumer and found out he was elected to the Senate in 1998, which means he’s up for re-election in 2016. Please, please let a strong primary opponent step forward. NY is a BIG state-there has to be someone willing to take him on. All I can say about the photos is awww. The arrival of the Pope today and greeting by POTUS, FLOTUS, VPOTUS, AND 2FLOTUS, is a BFD. I’m going to be sure to be back and ready by then.

Doing OK. Emotional week last week, got to see two more of my Uncles on my Mother’s side of the family yesterday. They are in the late 80’s & early 90’s. Going to have lunch with one of my cousins today and hopefully get my car in for repair this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Got some issues that need to be taken care of before I head for home. Saw a lot of Cousins at my Sister’s funeral last week and e vowed to keep in touch. We are getting up in years and need to reconnect. Anyhooo!! I am doing just fine. Darned tired is all. I will be seeing the Doctor when I get back. Never ending. LOL.

Independence hospital’s closing not enough to change Medicaid stance for Kansas conservatives
Speaker Ray Merrick: Problem is Obamacare

A southern Kansas hospital’s pending closure, which administrators blame on the state’s reluctance to expand Medicaid, hasn’t been enough to persuade Gov. Sam Brownback to soften his stance on the matter.
Mercy Hospital System plans to close its hospital in Independence, near the Oklahoma border, next month. Mercy spokeswoman Joanne Smith said expanding the program that provides health coverage to poor and disabled Kansans would have brought the hospital about $1.6 million in additional revenue.
“And that’s very significant for a small hospital like ours,” she told The Wichita Eagle

Brownback said the hospital closure isn’t because the state won’t expand Medicaid. “They should blame it on Obamacare,” he said.
With a population of more than 9,000, Independence will be the largest community in the state without a hospital. The closest alternatives are in Neodesha, about 16 miles away, and Coffeyville, 20 miles away.
Rep. Sue Concannon, a Beloit Republican who is an outspoken supporter of expansion, said she worries that the Independence hospital’s closing is “just the tip of the iceberg.”

On the policy front, both BS and HRC have published positions on the suddenly higher price drugs. They will frame any reform as fixing the not good enough Obamacare.
When VPB comes in he will be able to frame this issue positively.
We did what we had to do and now 30 million more people have benefited from the ACA.
Now is the right time to see Medicare’s drug pricing get the same deal that Tri-Care (VA program) has. Which is that the VA negotiates drug prices and as of now Medicare is unable to do that.
PBO knew it wasn’t his favorite part of the deal, but to get Obamacare through Congress required Big Pharma on board.

A coalition of House Republicans is gearing up to make waves by calling for action to fight climate change on the eve of Pope Francis’s visit to Capitol Hill.
Ten Republicans have so far signed onto a resolution affirming that human activity contributes to climate change and endorsing action to respond to the threat of Earth’s changing climate. The resolution is expected to be unveiled as early as Thursday.
Rep. Chris Gibson, a New York Republican, led the charge in crafting the resolution and convincing other Republicans to speak out in support. “This is a call for action to study how humans are impacting our environment and to look for consensus on areas where we can take action to mitigate the risks and balance our impacts,” Gibson told National Journal.
Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Carlos Curbelo of Florida, Robert Dold of Illinois, Dave Reichert of Washington, Pat Meehan, Ryan Costello, and Mike Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, and Richard Hanna and Elise Stefanik of New York all confirmed to National Journal that they have signed on as cosponsors of the resolution.
The timing is no accident. Pope Francis has warned that man-made climate change will hurt the poor and most vulnerable members of society, and the Vatican is calling on world governments to work together to fight global warming in June.
When Francis speaks to Congress next week—an event that will mark the first time any pope has addressed a joint session of the House and Senate—he is widely expected to call for bold and decisive efforts to combat Earth’s rapidly-rising temperatures.
