The Vatican has no private jets, only helicopter. Additionally air itslua flies pope to his destination, executive style, tradition for host country to fly him home. Just fyi
I would imagine a simple phone call to Alitalia and they’ll take him and staff wherever he wants to go. :-)

At today’s WHPB, @andrewbeatty, AFP, mentioned the palpable excitement about the Pope’s visit — he covered Pope Benedict’s visit during GWB’s Adm. and said the difference was stark.

Wow! This whole arrival is amazing and emotional-two historic, world changing figures meeting on the tarmac. When people think about voting for President of the United States, I hope they consider the stature and gravitas needed for such a role. I can’t think of a President in the last hundred years, with the possible exception of JFK, who could rise to today’s occasion with the grace, dignity and magnitude of heart of President Obama.

I think I’ve picked out a few of the Pope’s Swiss Guard, dressed in plain clothes, and they smile a bit more (out of uniform and beyond marches) than our U.S. Secret Service. But they’ll go the distance for the Pope, just as our brave Secret Service men and women also commit to do, for our leaders.

It finally opened, Dudette, I am so glad I got to watch the entire arrival, with no interruptions. Now I won’t have to watch any American versions, with the ‘journalists’ yakking in our face, telling us what we are seeing!! I loved that this was so quiet behind the cameras, and I cried all the way through, until the little Fiat carrying the Pope fell in the motorcade with all those huge American cars!! Then I burst out laughing, a welcome relief!! Laughing through tears, it is a special feeling! <3 Thank you, dear Dudette!

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA. Pope Francis arrives at the Apostolic Nunciature, where he will reside during his trip to Washington. He will be greeted by local school children.
I had MSNBC on for the arrival, and Brian Williams said….paraphrasing, that as always, every time they see the Obama girls, they all comment on how beautiful and lovely they are and how graciously they’ve grown up. That was quite a statement.
On a personal note: today the Military Marker for my husband’s grave arrived at the funeral home and I got it and now have it on my dining room table. It’s heavy but I want to hug it. I will keep it with me tonight before taking it to the Monument company tomorrow so they can place it. It means a lot to me. My sweetheart forever.
