I had to stop myself at two of these. I don’t like giving Chuck Todd this much time, and was feeling a little nauseous thinking about him. :)

This continued incarceration of Nadiya is a blot of shame on Putin and Russia. I often think of how awful life must be for her and wish there was someway, somehow she and others like her could be freed.

What a day for Ukrainians! First, President Obama speaks out against Putin’s aggression; then when Putin speaks, the Ukrainian delegation leaves and now the tragic symbolism of the bullet-ridden flag. Putin may think his actions make him appear powerful, but they actually reveal him to be a sadistic bully. Everyone in the world knows his number.

    Good Afternoon TOD!

My friend returned home yesterday and I went to visit. He looks great and is talking and moving almost normally! Thanks again for your support; I was inspired and touched by it!

So, I’ve been trying to catch up a bit this a.m. and you guys have been on fire! I’ll try to highlight my faves…

I WATCHED THE ENERGIZER’S UN SPEECH…HE HIT IT ALL AND DIDN’T MISS A THING!…WE HAVE A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH IGNORANCE OF THE FACTS IN THIS COUNTRY…AMERICANS WON’T ADMIT TO WRONG DOING AND CERTAINLY NOT WHEN PBO POINTS IIT OUT!

  14. 49 MadameSoph
    September 28, 2025 at 4:17 pm

O.k. first of all… Elizabeth Warren!?!

I had just about written her off as just another self-serving Dem, promoting her own interests and not giving PBO (who she owes her career to) any credit. I was so p*ssed off at her after her Colbert appearance. She seemed to be taking the Sanders route: yelling about the ‘system being rigged’ and ‘middle class families not having a chance’ and ‘we need a government that works’, all while making ZERO mention of PBO and the accomplishments of the last six years. Stephen asks her what we can do to change this and never does she mention “vote” or criticize the Repubs in Congress. Finally she mentions the CFPB and the good it has already done, but, again, NO mention of PBO - who fought for her and it. I decided I was done, done, done, with Elizabeth Warren.

Then I see the tweet about her speech on racial inequality and I was blown away! She really did some truth telling. Maybe I’ll give her a little more room for growth. I especially loved how she all but called out Bernie Sanders’ messaging with this:

“Economic justice is not — and has never been — sufficient to ensure racial justice. Owning a home won’t stop someone from burning a cross on the front lawn. Admission to a school won’t prevent a beating on the sidewalk outside,”

My friend was born in Gary, Indiana. When she was a young girl, the family was doing well and moved to a nice suburb in Michigan. Shortly after they arrived, someone burned a cross on their lawn. She is an executive with a major company, but she still gets pulled over way too often for minor bs reasons.

“None of us can ignore what is happening in this country. Not when our black friends, family, neighbors literally fear dying in the streets.” Warren said. “This is the reality all of us must confront, as uncomfortable and ugly as that reality may be. It comes to us to once again affirm that black lives matter, that black citizens matter, that black families matter.”

I noticed the words “once again” in that last sentence. These two words are a very important addition to this statement. So many times I have heard (sometimes well-intentioned) people with light skin, who don’t know the experience of darker skinned friends and family, saying, “I thought we had solved all of this.” The words “once again”, to me, stress the fact that the struggle for equality and justice is ongoing and cannot/should not be pushed aside.

I have yet to watch the YouTube of the whole speech. Will do that in a few….

Thanks for the reminder NW! Colbert is on permanent DVR mode at my house! He is half the reason I bought my over the air TIVO (I cut the cable cord this year and I’m loving it). I have to go to bed early tonight. So bummed I have to wait until Tuesday to watch our fabulous FLOTUS on my favorite show.

**UPDATED: Barack Obama and the myth of the progressive ‘majorities’

    JULY 16, 2025

To progressives who complain about Barack Obama “squandering” the progressive majorities he supposedly had going for him when he was elected president, I refer you to the following chart (from Wikipedia):

      Great read.

I don’t see the name of Bart Tupa (spelling ?) who gave me terrible headache during the ACA debate. He opted to resign knowing that his support for ACA would result in a terrible campaign against him.

:D << See that huge smile? I went to pick up my car that I left at the mechanic earlier this morning because it had been leaking steadily from the front for a little while now. Of course, I was dreading the verdict/bill (usually when I take my vehicle in, they know to fix it since I can't fix it myself - IOW they don't need to call me first). Well, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there was no charge - something about changing the gasket and topping up the tires! :D :D

Impossible to be intellectually or ethically honest and argue against ….

Iran has done, and continues to do a bunch of detestable stuff and they should continue to be held accountable by the US and the International Community.

But, WE OWN what we did in the 1950s to that Country’s vibrant democracy, and we most definitely OWN the murderous debacles that Bush & Cheney unleashed in Afghanistan & Iraq, and have undeniable responsibility for continuing to enable Israel’s incessant dehumanization & slaughter of the Palestinian people as it perfects its anti-democratic Apartheid Jewish State.

    bbl ….

Wow is right, 57! I am blown away. As I said in my post above, I had all but written off Warren as playing the Bernie Sanders card. This speech. And thank you for the link so I could read in its entirety. It is even better than the snippets I read in tweets earlier.

I am now more open to her as a VP candidate and very happy to see someone like her speaking truth. This is what Sanders should have and didn’t say from the beginning.
