Well, I let everyone know I wouldn’t be around so you wouldn’t worry…. just went for 4 days, but had a nice time. Went to see a friend that I used to work for that moved to LA from Santa Barbara….we had a great visit….I’ll be back:)
Morning all. Between family visits and other things, I just get to drop by lately so miss you all. Off to another doctor’s appointment this am, hopefully the last to this particular specialty. The toons are wonderful and funny, but also sad in their implications for our future. At this point, the Congress of the United States has become such an ongoing farce it would not surprise me to see members throwing spitballs at each other. The aggregate maturity level among House Republicans is lower than my 3-year old granddaughter’s. But unlike our little one, these guys are dangerous.
This is another reason why I am in favor of the wealthier you are, the more taxes your ass should be paying because this is what happens when someone has too much money and no goddamned sense.
You give money to two people to create an app that stalks, harasses, and bullies people. People who are survivors of rape, domestic abuse, who are coming into their truth as LGBT folks, people who have medical issues that are private and could cause them to lose employment if it is exposed. I could go on and on.
You don’t get to grant consent for your name and profile to be featured on the app. Someone else can create nasty crap about you and you can’t have it deleted. You have no control. It is insane.

This is not getting much attention…the GOP and their allies in the Press have convinced some Americans that it is ok to suppress the votes of fellow citizens, esp if they are POC, women, students, seniors…i hope that this issue is on President’s agenda before he leaves office…..i know that Hillary has spoken on this issue….i have not heard the other DEM Candidates address it..
i have come to the conclusions that things like this are not on their radar…these are the times that i wish OFA could do political things like this…they are so desperately needed
There is no excuse for voting restrictions to not be on their radar. And I’m sick of the excuse that if we just gave more money, everything would be instantly fixed. How about the party give us a reason to believe they will fix anything with our hard-earned money?

Long in the works, in 2012, it was announced that there was renewed interest in exploiting the “Soul Train” franchise - likely thanks in some part, at the time, to Don Cornelius’ death (February 1, 2025).
The news then was that Soul Train Holdings was working with WME to find ways to exploit and grow the brand, which would include a film, a stage musical AND a TV show.
“Certainly we want to proceed in a way that will highlight the contribution of Don to the creation of the brand and its subsequent impact on American culture,” said Kenard Gibbs, CEO of Soul Train Holdings.
However, there were some rights issues that they had to deal with, notably the music used in each episode of the series. But they were confident that it wouldn’t be a problem.
BIDEN TO SKIP FIRST DEM DEBATE: CNN reports that Joe Biden is likely to skip the first Democratic presidential debate:
He is not preparing for the first Democratic debate on October 13 in Las Vegas and is not expected to participate, people close to him say, because he feels no pressure to reach a decision by then. He is likely to reveal his plans in the second half of October.
Mid-October seems awfully late to be launching, given the need to build an organization and raise so much money. This is not a guy who appears gripped by any sense of urgency.
I saw the summary of this view in Meta’s comments last night.
Very disappointing.
On the other hand——all the stuff about “build an organization and raise money” —-are not the same concerns other candidates might have. VPB will have PBO’s organizational framework and probably most of PBO’s donors available to him on Day 1.
Not to mention all the grassroots support of the Obama Coalition.
The other side of the argument is how happy DWS has acted around Joe. Plus her decision that VPB may join the debate at the last second. Hard to believe she’d agree to anything that would threaten HRC.
DWS might know something we don’t. Namely that there will be no Joe in the 2016 race. Sad to admit I am losing some hope.

I say this with a very heavy heart. I am in complete denial about the slate of choices for 2016. After such a great, great President with the highest integrity, such a phenomenal presidency with such unprecedented transformation and achievement, this is what we have.
I’m sick to my stomach, to be honest.

HRC has renewed her push to press super delegates to commit to her before a single vote has been cast, proving she believes what matters is power, influence and money.
Unfortunately my daughter is one of those who is jobless. She has a university degree but very little work experience. It’s still tough out there.

Lance Gross is one new face this season of Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” who will be introduced as Abbie’s (Nicole Beharie’s) FBI boss Daniel Reynolds. According to IMDB, he’ll be appearing in all 18 episodes this season.

Vanessa Williams has been cast as Iris West’s mother on CW’s “The Flash.”
The character is played by Candice Patton, whose father, and thus, Vanessa Williams’ would-be husband on the show, is played by Jesse L. Martin (aka Joe West).
Williams will make her debut on the hit superhero drama series during its upcoming second season which kicks off next week Tuesday, Oct 6 at 8pm
Fans of the series will know that the whereabouts of Iris’ mother haven’t really been addressed on the show yet, although it’s only been 1 season. In fact, she’s barely referenced, if at all, as I recall. I think I just assumed that she wasn’t alive.

She can barely contain herself as she scrutinizes a foreign policy speech that he apparently gave recently. OMG! What an embarrassment. Never mind his comment about the whole point of those Benghazi hearings this guy is a doofus. He’s going to be the next SPEAKER of the House and he cannot SPEAK. He just makes up words or uses words that have no meaning or context to what he is talking about. It’s pathetic. Now I understand that people have speech impediments and I’ll confess that I’m not 100% always grammatically correct so truly I’m not making fun of him if he has a problem but if you one day aspire to the Speaker position wouldn’t you make an effort to learn how to speak? This is just sad!!!!

The Cadillac tax is to court the unions who have been bitching about this since Day One. Does she have a proposal how to fill that $87B gap from the excise tax(ONLY on the portion of the plans that exceed in excess of $10,000 individual and $27,000 for a family)? Haven’t heard that answer yet.
One of the few times you’ll see me defend Hillary. However, what troubles me is that her entire team doesn’t seem to fathom how these things will be spun by the media. This scares me. At the very least the Clinton machine should be masterful with the media, and this campaign is really lame.
That being said, the media and the GOP are getting exactly what they want: quick headline readings by PBO supporters to dampen her support. Hey, there are plenty of legitimate reasons for that, but this is barely one of them.
If Joe Biden does not jump in I am done with politics. No Facebook, no twitter just devote my time to my writing and join the President’s foundations. Also his grandmother and his sister has foundations in Kenya I will send them help from whatever I earn. Later for Hillary and Bernie. Don’t trust them, never will.

ABSOLUTELY. It’s going to have a massive sea-change in every town and city in this country. What great news for people who have been unfairly incarcerated. There’s some portion of it that has retroactive implementation - i’m just not familiar with how much of it is. It has wide bipartisan support (crazy Chuck Grassley no less) so it seems like it might pass, even in the House.

And those who are terminally ill or in nursing homes will leave federally funded health care in prison for what? for where? If they do not have family to take them in where will they go? I’m not so sure either of these is so compassionate, unless programs on the outside are waiting to help them when they are released. But I haven’t read the bill, so I”m not sure if these “solutions” are part of it. I hope so.

I’ve been pretty busy at work this week so I’ve only been able to lurk.
I came across this video or Rachel Maddow’s show from last night as she discusses the next “Speaker” of the House, Kevin McCarthy. She can barely contain herself as she scrutinizes a foreign policy speech that he apparently gave recently. OMG! What an embarrassment. Never mind his comment about the whole point of those Benghazi hearings this guy is a doofus. He’s going to be the next SPEAKER of the House and he cannot SPEAK. He just makes up words or uses words that have no meaning or context to what he is talking about. It’s pathetic. Now I understand that people have speech impediments and I’ll confess that I’m not 100% always grammatically correct so truly I’m not making fun of him if he has a problem but if you one day aspire to the Speaker position wouldn’t you make an effort to learn how to speak? This is just sad!!!!
He is competing with Louie Gohlmert for saying dumb things perhaps ?

And out of all of her ACA proposals, the only one that “breaks” with Obamacare is the Cadillac tax. All the others just make ACA even better, which is what PBO and the Dem leadership would have done if they could have and would completely support now. ACA or any other major law is not written in stone and it shouldn’t be.
The Cadillac tax is to court the unions who have been bitching about this since Day One. Does she have a proposal how to fill that $87B gap from the excise tax(ONLY on the portion of the plans that exceed in excess of $10,000 individual and $27,000 for a family)? Haven’t heard that answer yet.
One of the few times you’ll see me defend Hillary. However, what troubles me is that her entire team doesn’t seem to fathom how these things will be spun by the media. This scares me. At the very least the Clinton machine should be masterful with the media, and this campaign is really lame.
That being said, the media and the GOP are getting exactly what they want: quick headline readings by PBO supporters to dampen her support. Hey, there are plenty of legitimate reasons for that, but this is barely one of them.
If Joe Biden does not jump in I am done with politics. No Facebook, no twitter just devote my time to my writing and join the President’s foundations. Also his grandmother and his sister has foundations in Kenya I will send them help from whatever I earn. Later for Hillary and Bernie. Don’t trust them, never will.

Forcing HRC down our throats is not a qualifier. They better pray for other Dems to step up otherwise, they get what they deserve.

ABSOLUTELY. It’s going to have a massive sea-change in every town and city in this country. What great news for people who have been unfairly incarcerated. There’s some portion of it that has retroactive implementation - i’m just not familiar with how much of it is. It has wide bipartisan support (crazy Chuck Grassley no less) so it seems like it might pass, even in the House.

I’m overjoyed about this section of it:
Section 210. Compassionate release. The bill would allow certain individuals with no record
of violence who are older than 60, as well as terminally ill offenders and those in nursing homes
who have served a large portion of their sentences, to be released from prison.
But it’s ALL great.
I’m not so sure this is great forus. It is hard enough for an ex felon to find a job, let alone someone 60 or older. And those who are terminally ill or in nursing homes will leave federally funded health care in prison for what? for where? If they do not have family to take them in where will they go? I’m not so sure either of these is so compassionate, unless programs on the outside are waiting to help them when they are released. But I haven’t read the bill, so I”m not sure if these “solutions” are part of it. I hope so.
