Look at you up there, Roberta! Congratulations. Our long road trip to Minnesota for my husband’s 50th high school reunion had many highlights. The class decided to give a gift to their old school which is now a middle school. They raised enough money to fund a partnership with the U of M Raptor Center so the kids can learn some hard science while having fun learning about wildlife. Very cool.
Morning all. I’m wanting so much for VP Biden to run that I’m beginning to feel like a kid again wishing and wishing that Tinkerbell would recover. Back in the olden days in the 50’s I got to see Mary Martin as Peter Pan on the Broadway stage. Her appeal to the kids in the audience was so real to me that I actually did think we had all wished Tinkerbell back to life. So what have we got to lose? Let’s all wish it together with all of our might and maybe it will be so. Yes, I will work and vote for whoever is the Dem nominee, but I do want my heart to be as engaged as my mind.
So many of us feel that way. Got my Ridin With Biden stickers yesterday. I will put them on my car the moment he announces, IF he decides it’s the right thing for all concerned.
Why are these people so dam stupid? Why can’t they understand that no one want their guns, what we want to is to at least try to prevent these mass shootings,
Meta, what a lovely gift. Such a delight to click through these photos of two beautiful and loving people. Hope they have a romantic and very special anniversary.
MY SWEET YOUTH PASTOR SENT AN EMAIL ASKING ME TO RETURN TO THE CHURCH…I MIGHT…BUT…NOT THIS WEEKEND…MY BROTHER IS HERE…AND I HAVE DENTAL SURGERY ON MONDAY…DON’T NEED TO ASK FOR MORE PAIN!
Sue, good luck with your dental surgery-hope all goes well. I’m glad the youth pastor reached out to you-it shows you are appreciated by some in your church.
GM TOD - some good news from my world - Troy Newman got deported this am. Should be back with you shortly (if not already there)
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-03/troy-newman-anti-abortion-activist-deported-back-to-us/6825346
“Anti-abortion activist Troy Newman has been deported back to the US after losing his High Court bid to stay in Australia.
A spokesperson for Immigration Minister Peter Dutton confirmed Mr Newman departed Australia this morning, after losing a High Court bid yesterday.”
I was thinking that as I typed jackie - we might yet get him back, but at least he has learned he can’t intimidate everyone. Should have listened to the airline lady who told him not to come.
A gunman walked into a [fill in the blank] today and over the span of _____ minutes killed at least [number goes here] and wounded _____ more before [pick one] killing himself/dying in a shootout with police.
Hang that sentence on your refrigerator so it’s handy for the next mass shooting. Will it be weeks before we learn of the next one? Days? Hours?
Morning everyone….sick and tired of being sick and tired of this shooting bullshit. We need to change the record….
Yet elected officials in state legislatures and Congress largely do nothing, clinging to a near-religious embrace of the right to bear arms in a political theater owned by gun manufacturers and their gun-worshipping acolytes. Not only is that a dereliction of the elected officials’ duty to keep the American people safe, it is a horrific disregard for human life. And the shame is shared by an electorate that doesn’t demand more.
“a dereliction of duty”…on BOTH ENDS! This needs to stop now. Vote against those that would continue to allow this to happen on the state and national level and VOTE EVERY TIME! Your life and your children’s lives, literally depend on it!!
The problem is not the voters alone. They need to alternative candidates who will say boldly that they will take on nra on campaign trail. How many such candidates exist? I mean, look at sanders, a self-proclaimed lefty. He has been running for congress and senate from one of the blue states for years and yet spouts ‘common sense’ gun control and votes for only diluted bills.
It’s true, AMK. There are congressional districts like ours where a sensible gun legislation proponent would not even be considered candidate material for either party. The pro-gun thinking is so entrenched, it would take a social/cultural revolution, if not wholesale lobotomies, to change any minds.
feeling tempted to create my first twitter account just to reply to this fool maggie haberman at n.y.times:

as easily predicted, “the news” is frantically trying to brush BUSH the 3rd’s “stuff happens” insanity under the rug (there will be many of these coming as they work to make sure jebbie is the nominee, trust me). media matters guy tweets about keeping track of the “journalists” he “follows” as they do this, and maggie replies to him thinking she’s got him since he might not “follow” her in the twitter context of the word. now i don’t have a twitter account and i “follow” all kinds of people there. my god, even though i’ve been onto the game of “the news” for decades, i still get amazed at how truly dumb these people are who get to shape our public discourse.
Meta’s tweet on the last post about the Firefighter’s Union withdrawing previously announced support from HRC, in favor of waiting to hear from VP Biden, gives me hope that we are not alone in our wishes. Attn: Jackieg.
Yesterday at the press conference President Obama alluded to voting against those that are against any sort of common sense gun laws, he went so far as to suggest that for an election cycle or two becoming a single issue voter which I thought was very interesting.
Last night Stephen Colbert told Donald Trump that he will not be POTUS. He said it with smiles and assurances to The Donald that Stephen loved him, which judging by the long and pleasant interview last week,, I believe to be the truth. Stephen likes Mr. Trump and wishes him well.
On the other hand, Stephen has been very negative, bordering on mean, to HRC. The meanest one was something about being in the room with her and still she wasn’t really there. Several shots like that in the very short time Stephen has been back on the air.
My guess is that we will see PBO on with Stephen when it is time to announce that the enrollment for Obamacare is opening again.
That’s when The president wants to reach as many people as possible. So I think we may anticipate appearances we can guess at and some we will be surprised by.
Let me see if I have this right, Russia is in Syria fighting against ISIS, but President Obama made Syria give up its chemical weapons without firing a single shot? Russia’s history in the Middle East is not one of success; empires go to die in the Middle East.
Don, I think PBO said that Russia is fighting against the moderate insurgents in Syria, not ISIL. In other words, they are supporting Assad by attacking his enemies. If they were really fighting ISIL, they might actually accomplish something positive. As it is, they’re merely prolonging the Assad carnage.
A senior priest at the Vatican has revealed he is gay, on the eve of a major meeting that will define the Catholic Church’s teaching on family.
Poland-born Krysztof Charamsa, 43, said he wanted to challenge the Church’s “backwards” attitude to homosexuality.
Msgr Charamsa said he was in a relationship and was “happy and proud” of his identity.
The Vatican called his actions “very serious and irresponsible” and stripped him of doctrinal responsibilities.

Being a Gay Priest is No Long a deal breaker as a Priest.
Being a Practicing Gay Priest when the Roman Catholic Church is still professing Celibacy would get a Priest thrown out. Rev Fr. Cutie(sp) from FL…….was thrown out for he was having relations with a Female Parishioner. Today he is married to her and they have children now and they are now Protestants. A loss, IMO…..especially since the Roman Catholic Church have welcomed in Married Pastors from the Anglican Church who converted to Catholicism.
The Celibacy is now about a 1000 yrs old. Centuries prior, Priests were married and they had families.
Simon Peter, the 1st Pope, a Disciple, was a Married Pope.
Nena, I think you’re right that it’s the relationship and not the gayness that’s the problem. The ban on priest relationships and marriage is truly archaic and does not belong in the 21rst century. I fear, however, that it will take another century to overcome this prejudice.
I’m sorry but I gotta ask. They strip a gay priest of his doctrinal responsibilities but allow pedophile priests to continue their doctrinal responsibilities?
At the service I attended in NE Portland last night, there were a range of speakers including my Congressman, Earl Blumenauer. He quoted President Obama extensively about being a gun sense voter. Blumenauer has a multi-pronged plan ready for Congress to act on, if only Boehner or whoever would bring these bills to the floor for discussion. As President Obama said, gun violence must be at the top of consideration of each candidate’s fitness for office.

Thanks meta - they share their anniversary with my Mom’s birthday - I enjoy being reminded of it on TOD each year.
Look at FLOTUS’ hands. So graceful. When FLMO claps her style is distinctive. Has anybody else noticed this?
Yes, I have. A charming and beautiful woman there, in every way.
