Thanks for posting this, Meta! Really important for as many of us as possible to jump on. My Congressman, Earl Blumenauer has spent the last year developing a many-pronged approach to gun violence. There are a number of bills teed up and ready to be introduced if the damned GOP would open their hearts and minds a crack. He has it outlined on his Congressional webpage:

Statement by the President on the Trans-Pacific Partnership

I’ve spent every day of my presidency fighting to grow our economy and strengthen our middle class. That means making sure our workers have a fair shot to get ahead here at home, and a fair chance to compete around the world. My approach to trade has been guided by a unifying principle: leveling the playing field for American workers and businesses, so we can export more products stamped Made in America all over the world that support higher-paying American jobs here at home.

Over the summer, Democrats and Republicans in Congress came together to help the United States negotiate agreements for free and fair trade that would support our workers, our businesses, and our economy as a whole. When more than 95 percent of our potential customers live outside our borders, we can’t let countries like China write the rules of the global economy. We should write those rules, opening new markets to American products while setting high standards for protecting workers and preserving our environment.

That’s what the agreement reached today in Atlanta will do. Trade ministers from the 12 nations that make up the Trans-Pacific Partnership finished negotiations on an agreement that reflects America’s values and gives our workers the fair shot at success they deserve.

This partnership levels the playing field for our farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers by eliminating more than 18,000 taxes that various countries put on our products. It includes the strongest commitments on labor and the environment of any trade agreement in history, and those commitments are enforceable, unlike in past agreements. It promotes a free and open Internet. It strengthens our strategic relationships with our partners and allies in a region that will be vital to the 21st century. It’s an agreement that puts American workers first and will help middle-class families get ahead.

Once negotiators have finalized the text of this partnership, Congress and the American people will have months to read every word before I sign it. I look forward to working with lawmakers from both parties as they consider this agreement. If we can get this agreement to my desk, then we can help our businesses sell more Made in America goods and services around the world, and we can help more American workers compete and win.

originally environmentalists criticized the deal but after it got ironed out environmentalists are praising it which is a good thing. Either way never count on Sanders to be for anything the president is for when it comes to things like this. Not that it matters because Sanders will never be president.

I am a student of history. What Alabama is doing is reminiscent of what the South did once African Americans gained the right to vote after the Civil War and during the 1960s. One of the most effective mechanism they used in the 1960s was to close Court houses to make sure Blacks would not be able to register to vote.

Democrats Release Benghazi Panel Info After McCarthy Remarks

The Democratic members of the panel then accused the Republican members of using “a series of selective leaks of inaccurate and incomplete information in an effort to attack Secretary Clinton with unsubstantiated or previously debunked allegations.”

In particular, the letter claims that the committee unfairly portrayed its private interview with former Clinton staffer Cheryl Mills by demanding that the interview be treated as classified information and then leaking parts of the interview to the press. The Democratic members included previously unreported excerpts of the interview with Mills in the letter, and they told Gowdy that the State Department and Mills’ lawyers have five days to identify parts of the interview that should remain private before making the entire transcript public.

Forgive me for commenting on this because it was about those losing family members to guns, but there goes HRC crying in NH again. Early, this cycle. I’ll never forget when she went for the tears way back when. Just seems so fake to me. Almost like she’s thinking, “Well, President Obama looked like he was going to cry, and he got good press, so … ” Sorry if I’m being totally unkind, but I’m not buying it.

You expressed my sentiments. While I respect everyone’s opinions, sometimes I find that we are working against the ultimate goal: to keep the WH in a Democrat’s hands. We indulge in purity just as the T-baggers do. That type of infighting will make some Dems ill disposed to go out and vote if the nominee is not their personal choice. The result will be only to have a Trump, a Rubio, or a Fiorina in the WH. God help us!

It’s a primary, Jeff. We’re choosing among all of the primary candidates, and this is an invitation-only blog. I personally try not to comment much about HRC on twitter or elsewhere, although it’s not easy. Your advice will work in the general, of course.
