Chat Away

Who knew? Pete Souza is a Brandi Carlile devotee - and she played at his wedding!

He picked her as one of his top 5 favorite Instagrammers: “Brandi is a singer-songwriter from Seattle who happens to front one of the most underrated bands working today. (She and the band played a set at my wedding two years ago.) She posts a lot of great concert photos as well as behind-the-scene photos of her traveling crew.”

    Apparently Rachel will be doing a forum assisted by Jim Clyburn for the (D) candidates. I don’t understand this format and what makes it a “forum.” If anybody gets this please enlighten me.
    Each candidate is at the podium alone.
    Serial interviews is what it sounds like to me.
    In any case it is an active effort to promote the Dems and i welcome it for that alone.
    Presumably, if Joe becomes a candidate he will be welcome also.

    Well, after school today we stayed for 90 minutes listening to our district’s superintendent talk about the ‘visioning ‘ process for our future. Apart from the fact that “visioning” sets my teeth on edge, and TED talks (we were treated to 3, more or less) give me the screaming heebie-jeebies, I like this superintendent (and I LOVE my principal and wouldn’t do anything to embarrass him), I managed to keep myself in check by writting down my snarky comments in my notebook. However, the Moment came. One staff member said, “It seems like schools are always asked to correct negative societal changes.” Whereupon or Super said, “Yes, just look at obesity. Obesity rates are rising so now we are called upon the fix the obesity problem - by offering ‘healthy fund-raisers’ and ‘healthy’ stuff at football games”. As he started to move on, I heard the words coming from somewhere, “Well, we’ll not being called on to fix the obesity problem, just not make it worse. That’s not a bad thing. Schools set standards for behavior in many areas that are not the norm and we feel that’s part of our mission.” Yes. I interrupted the Superintendent in order to CONTRADICT him. So now, if my evaluation drops from an 89 to a 20 and I’m looking for work next fall, well, THANKS A LOT, OBAMA!!!!

      ha! ha! I almost did the same thing when our CEO, who earns millions from healthcare and had been an active part of formulating ObamaCare in the WH forums, started lying to all his employees about ObamaCare;

      I almost shouted at him : “you lie”;

      sometimes, the mouth has just got to do its thing, no matter how much restraint you are trying to put on it.

      may be by fall we can be in a position to work for the Obama Foundation - then you can use this blog comment to demonstrate how “you put it all on the line” to defend the truth. I will back up your claims

        Thank you, GCL, I may be calling on you! To be fair, bagel sales mean a lot to our building. We sell them every Friday and ou rprincipal uses the money to by things that we need that the district has no money for. We are just out of deficit, the state is still eyeing us hungrily. Each teacher gets $125 per year to buy all our supplies. When the new regulations went into effect we couldn’t sell bagels and we all felt that. But we shouldn’t be mad at having to sell minimally healthy food, we should be mad at the Republicans who are starving our school districts of money. I just couldn’t stand to hear this perfectly reasonable program put down.

    I couldn’t care less that John Lewis endorsed HRC…makes very little difference to me. I really don’t care about the CBC’s endorsement at this point.

    • 36 jazziz2
      October 8, 2025 at 12:17 am

      If you’ll recall, last go round, most of the CBC were early endorsers of HRC; some of them ended up having their “come to Jesus” moment after Bill’s tantrum in SC. If I recall correctly, the first to switch was John Lewis.

      Lately I’ve been feeling odd- usually around this time I’m so fired up and ready to go! But now I’m more of an observer, with no great love for any of the declared candidates. I find myself thinking, well, let’s leave the selection of the Democratic nominee to the people who feel strongly about one or the other. I know I’ll work for and vote for the nominee, so it’s not total political apathy. And I wonder if the rethugs are feeling the same- just a whole slew of meh options.

    1st world problem

    Does anyone know if you can remove Windows 10 (amk are u around?) Mr 99 was updating my laptop recently - no idea what he did (but he will sure hear about it when he gets home) but MS managed to also update to Windows 10 - they should be sued for putting their b.s. W10 icons on EVERY machine. Now I have a user called HP (it’s a HP machine) with a desktop being an advertising page of rubbish from the shop where it was purchased. Cannot see what other programs exist cause the desktop picture hides everything else. Cannot find my sign on screen.

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

      Run, Mr99, runnnn!!!! :)
      Sorry I can’t help with this problem, but it reminds me why I’m putting off joining the 10 generation. A friend’s nephew is working on the 10 roll-out, and told her to wait a while before downloading it. Insider tip: uh-oh!

      I’ve got Windows 10 on mine and have had no issues. I think there were some settings you had to be careful about. My daughter did mine, so I’m sorry - I’ve got no help for you. My laptop opens to a screen saver. I hit enter and it asks for my pin and I’m in. If you can get to the boot screen, maybe you can go back to an earlier saved version?

        October 8, 2025 at 2:19 am

        Thanks Mary - my issue in not updating is some very old software that I had to tweak in many ways to run on W8 - who knows what will happen with 10. Mr 99 is my techo expert so I’ll hope he has an answer - speaking to him on the phone he has susanne’s words - uh-oh

      whaddayamean Mr 99 was updating my laptop? Don’t blame the innocent man, who was only doing the right thing.

      The issue is not w10 related. You caught some hijacking virus/adware. Did you try shutting down and restarting? Seriously.

      • 51 99ts
        October 8, 2025 at 3:30 am

        Yes - you are half right - no virus - but according to Mr 99 - an error - probably a disk error - caused the system to go into rebuild mode. After deleting some unwanted software (that HP is so kind as to add) & rebooting 3 times - it is back to the happy place where I wanted it to be.
        What would I do without you all :)

      By the way, on December 6*, 2015, the Kennedy Center will celebrate the lifetime achievements of American rock band the Eagles, singer-songwriter Carole King, filmmaker George Lucas, actress and singer Rita Moreno, conductor Seiji Ozawa, and actress and Broadway star Cicely Tyson. CBS will broadcast the Honors gala on December 29, 2015.

      *Might be Dec 5 or 6 (reports differ and Kennedy Center’s website is down at the moment.
