A crew member of the El Faro container ship that went missing last week sent her mother one final, heartbreaking email.
34-year-old Danielle Randolph was the second mate of the ship. Before she and 33 other crew members got caught in Hurricane Joaquin last week, she was able to email her mother Laurie one last time saying, “We are heading straight into it, Category 3, last we checked. Winds are super bad. Love to everyone.”

Good morning and happy Thursday TOD :) Update for those concerned about my cat bitten finger- was healing nicely UNTIL I slammed it in the back door this morning :(. Had a birthday and now I’m falling apart. Cat however is coming along nicely, recovering from her premature birthing.. will take a good while to fatten her up though. She’s resting most of the time- still not allowing her around my other critters- that too will take a while.

Hello sherijr so glad your finger is healing. I am a cat lover and rescuer too. I told the lady I help trap and release cats/kittens about your story of taking in the mama cat. I hope she recovers and you are able to get her spayed, shots, and able to mingle with your other kitties. I know it will take a while but you rescued her and she will show her appreciation. I just trapped three kittens to be spayed/neutered and have about four more. You are an angel, get well soon.

She is doing okay, she bit me because I was holding her while letting my giant dog come through her ‘space’ to get out the back door… she panicked when she saw him, so I deserved that little chomp ;). I will get her spayed and shots as soon as she;’s deemed healthy. I’m a maniac about spaying / neutering. She’ll be a house cat like my other three… so far she is not thrilled when she’s spied them from the doorway. We are keeping her isolated until she’s healthy/ flea free and they’ve all had time to sniff one another thru the door; etc.
I was feeding a feral kitten and when she got about four months I trapped her and got her spayed. When I was feeding her after awhile she let me touch her through the fence. When I brought her home she was ok so I thought I could socialize her and get her a forever home. She was too feral for someone else so I kept her but she was isolated from my other cats because she wanted to fight with them. The all of a sudden she got so sick that I had to put her down. She was a beautiful maine coon looking cat I called Holly. I hope it works out with you and mama kitty becoming part of the family.

Jeb! Bush: ‘I don’t support reauthorizing’ the Voting Rights Act
In a forum sponsored by The Des Moines Register, Jeb! Bush was asked where he stands on the Voting Rights Act and whether it should be reauthorized. His answer, in essence, is no.
I think if it’s to reauthorize it to continue to provide regulations on top of states as though we were living in 1960, ’cause those were basically when many of those were put in place, I don’t think we should do that. There’s been dramatic improvement in, um, in access to voting. Exponentially better improvement. I don’t think there’s a role for the federal government to play in most places. There could be some, but in most places…. They did have a constructive role in the 60s. I don’t support reauthorizing it.
