Not for nothing, but, I really don’t want anyone talking to me unless I can see them in person or talk to them on the phone or on Skype or glide or google hangouts. I’m just saying, I’m really not in the mood to be hearing voices.

Protest in mid size Oz town - 600 turned up - from both sides (I didn’t see how many of each). Police report - very well behaved crowd, 3 arrests. Then I read - 400 police - for a rally of 600 people! We pay for these dimwits to talk their hate.

Moderate? Since when is voting to allow guns on Amtrack trains, opposing a 5 day waiting period and voting to shield gun manufactures from lawsuits moderate?

This quote (to me) had a ring of something ugly underneath it:
“On the other hand, where there is a problem is there is evidence that manufacturers, gun manufacturers, do know that they’re selling a whole lot of guns in an area that really should not be buying that many guns….”

Which “areas” should not be buying guns? I guess in Vermont it’s o.k. but in “areas” with a different demographic, it isn’t?

Even before Citizens United our political system was awash in money, I really don’t know how do you even go about getting the money out of politics. President Obama was the only politician that I’ve ever donated money to, I would do the same for Joe Biden. Of course I can’t give at the level that corporations do, but still, the money flows from every sector of society.

My favoritest comedian indian actress passed away today. She is in Guinness book for the record 1200+ movies she acted in over a span of nearly half a century not to mention over 300+ songs she recorded. Though comedy was her forte, she played the character roles - whether it is a sister, sil, mom, mil, gramma, great gramma, mentally challenged, physically challenged, stage plays, you name it, she did it - without a single flaw. I am gonna seriously miss her.

So sorry to hear about her passing, amk. I’ve always found I miss the character actors more than the stars when they pass, because they add so much to each story. And I’m always amazed at how, like her, they can be one person in one film and someone totally different and still completely believable in another film. That, to me, is true talent.

Thx cd4b. Yes, her range was amazing and yet not even once have I seen her stumble. She easily and completely lived the role she played. And she refused to do sleazy comedy her entire life.

    Archconservatives’ Real Enemy Is Democracy

    By Francis Wilkinson

    ————————————

The Ultras are called “outsider” and “anti-establishment” and “anti-government.” And they are in various ways. But they are mostly anti-democratic. They reserve their greatest contempt for compromise, even with members of their own party. Compromise is the viscous stuff that enables diverse interests to be accommodated and government to function. It’s the stuff of American pluralism and representative democracy, fluid enough to carry multiple views but still sticky enough to make one of many.

The Ultras are at war with Democrats, with Republicans, with government itself. But mostly they are war with perhaps the greatest, if least heralded, of American political ideals: half-a-loafism. In a 50-50 nation, they don’t want small bites. They want it all. Never mind that they represent a rump of one party.

    I am going to wait for the dust to settle on these reports on the fate of ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Bagadadi. Soon enough we will know which version is true;

On another note, I think that more of us need to stand up to these extremists in our midst who are organizing anti-Muslim protests around mosques etc.

Yesterday, I passed next to the local mosque in my area and I saw a police cruiser (with two policemen) parked there the whole day.

While I was very glad that my neighbors were being provided with the extra law-enforcement protection, I was also very saddened and angry that a few intolerant hate-filled people had made this necessary in the first place.

there is no reason why anyone should be threatened because of their religious beliefs or non-beliefs. No one should have to feel this kind of danger for minding their business

If you haven’t read this article (The White man in That Photo) You really ought to pause and do so. It’s not long, and it tells a tale of character. Peter Norman paid a huge public price for the rest of his life because he chose to stand for equality, and I’d never heard his name before. Thank you for sharing, Alycee. By the time TOD is finished with me I’ll not only be able to find certain far-away places on a map, I’ll be a well-informed world citizen. ;) :) :)

While I was well aware of the gesture and proud of it, I wasn’t aware of the patch they wore and certainly didn’t see the same patch on the white guy who was standing bravely there in quiet solidarity. This makes me even more proud of Mr. Norman and happy to see that Australia has righted its wrong to him and his legacy.

I remember watching this because we were proud of all USA Olympic winners. I never realized until later when announcers talked about it that it was an incident. It took me two years to understand what happened. I still don’t “get it”. It wasn’t until the age of my iPad that I can do research. Way to late to ‘do’ anything. What an isolated life I had growing up. 😔

It’s never to late, Carol Mae. When you know better (more), do better (more). Lesson for me is to not only look at the big picture, but to actually SEE it! I saw the event on tv; have seen the picture countless time — full picture and cropped. NEVER ONCE DID I WONDER about “the white guy;” never once did I ever think about his story… This, I regret. How many other times have I “looked” but did not actually SEE? I will honor Mr. Norman’s memory by always seeing and researching the big picture.

“Just before sundown on Thursday 1 October, an old man charged across the main street of the little town of Inglis, Florida. He was expecting trouble. Someone had recklessly fired a pistol in public, and Buzz Terhune intended to have words about it.

The horror that unfolded in the next few minutes has become so mundane, so everyday, that it no longer makes national news. Terhune was marching headlong into the 1,000th mass shooting in the United States since the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre almost three years ago…”

Clinton Ally Lanny Davis Overheard Ranting About ‘Buffoon’ Biden, ‘Socialist’ Sanders
    October 10th, 2015

D.C. political operatives should really stop having sensitive conversations on Amtrak trains.

Townhall’s Guy Benson and Daily Beast’s Betsy Woodruff were riding the early morning Acela Express from New York to D.C., when they noticed a longtime Hillary Clinton ally Lanny Davis carrying on a loud conversation about the 2016 election. Each wrote separate pieces detailing what Davis unwittingly revealed on the long train ride.

To begin with, Davis said that Bernie Sanders was “sanctimonious,” “a flip-flopper,” and “a Socialist” who can’t win the general election. “There’s no way he can be nominated — ever,” he reportedly told his political associates.

Davis was just as confident that Clinton could beat “buffoon” Joe Biden. He noted that Biden was still only in third, despite huge name recognition and Clinton’s poll numbers being “the bottom of the bottom.” Davis predicted that Biden’s numbers would drop immediately once he announced his candidacy.

Davis even took the time to discuss Clinton’s debate strategy. He said Clinton played to attack the NRA during the debate, and parlay those attacks into an attack on Sanders. The group of Clintonistas debated whether or not Clinton should “get emotional” during the debate, arguing that it would play well with women.

It’s going to be very entertaining watching those that say we must vote for Hillary twist themselves into pretzels trying to explain away everything that comes out of the Clinton camp.

I am one of those people. I don’t need to twist myself in a pretzel to know that we all must vote for whoever the Dem nominee is for the sake of our country and the legacy of President Obama. I resent your negativity towards simple rationality and the people like myself who may advocate it. It serves to be divisive in this community and to the cause of the legacy of President Obama. If Joe Biden enters the race, that’s fine with me, it will help the Dems. But I will vote for whomever the nominee is. I believe anyone here will do likewise for the simple reason of sanity. This is a community devoted to supporting President Obama and it should be okay for some diversity of opinion regarding the primary process. In 2008 most Hillary supporters ended up gladly supporting President Obama. If there is still a race in May and Joe Biden is the strongest candidate to beat the GOP, I will vote for him in the Oregon primary. We don’t need to have a war in the Dem party or in this community because of stupid comments from any candidates camp. Every vote will be needed to defeat the GOP and keep the country from going over a cliff. You can bet if Hillary is the nominee that Pres and First Lady will be out campaigning for her, and inviting every one to vote for her or whoever the nominee is. And I will heed the President’s call.

Hey, Bill, most of my post are for entertainment purposes only. There’s no need to get yourself riled up on account of my musings. I can assure you that when the time comes I’ll gladly vote for Hillary if she is the nominee. Hope you feel better.

    they just don’t like him.

    …………………….

Romney’s path to GOP nomination eludes Jeb

    ………………….

In 2016, the insurgents are not Bush alternatives, said Monmouth University pollster Patrick Murray. Worse, they’re indifferent to him.

“If there’s a sense that you’re the person that they need to pit someone against, that suggests you have a strong base of underlying support,” Murray said.

“But Donald Trump and Ben Carson aren’t ‘anyone but Bush’ candidates. They’re tapping into an entirely different mindset in which Bush is irrelevant. In 2012, it was always Romney and someone who is not Romney. We’re not having that conversation about Jeb, and that speaks volumes.”

And Romney always had an ace-in-the-hole.

“Romney had New Hampshire in his back pocket the whole time,” Robinson said.

Romney, from neighboring Massachusetts, held a double-digit lead in New Hampshire throughout. He was guaranteed at least one victory in a carve-out state.

Bush has no such guarantees. He is in sixth place in Iowa and fourth place in New Hampshire, which many believe is a must-win state for him. Even if he could wait it out to Florida’s primary on March 15, he’s behind in the polls Trump and Carson in his home state.

Iran Implementation begins on Monday October 19, 2015, according to Iranian officials. They are celebrating.
Now I will try to find this news in our media.

NY Times prefers to headline a missile testing fired by Iran—-which was, by the way—-6 hours before they approved Deal. NY Times chooses to frighten rather than report.
What does a non-nuclear missile testing have to do with anything??? And why does it step on the actual news???
First answer is—Zero. Missile testing not relevant to Deal.
Second answer is—-propaganda. That is what it does. Distract. Dilute, step on information and substitute facts with fear.

PBO and the P5+1 deal with Iran flourishes. NY Times would rather you not understand that.

I still vividly remember the 1968 Olympic games in Mexico. Sadly, very little was said about the bravely of Mr. Norman. Thanks for sharing his story.
